If there is no issue with the Mazda 2 then keep it. Borrowing money for a car when so young is a terrible start to her financial life.

      • +2

I find that Mazda's are generally reliable and low maintanance.

I had a mazda that went for 50000km without a service. When i serviced it, it was perfectly fine.

Not sure about the newer ones though

        • They haven’t changed much.

        • +1

50000km with a service? I hope you mean major service and not oil changes, etc

      • +1

        This. Keep the Mazda.

      • Well the borrowing is from the bank of mum and dad. The Mazda is quite expensive on fuel.

        • +2

Ah I see. I can’t imagine the Mazda 2 being bad in fuel!

Oh well. We have a few young women on p plates in my office and the Toyota CH-r seems to be very popular choice.

    • suzuki swift?

      • With a 1* ANCAP rating, which has just been upgraded to a 3* for the new model, no thanks.

        • +6

          from 1* to 3* is a downgrade.

if you're gona die in a crash u want to be instant lol

    Owner review here.

We purchase the Lux Petrol a couple of months ago. We did compare it to the equally priced MG ZS, but the Haval has what feels bigger and more premium, plus the MG motor is terrible.

There is a big difference between the base and next model up. That extra couple of grand goes a long way

I'm 6 foot 2 and we comfortably fit 2A2C for the weekend run around.

We went for the standard petrol over the Hybrid mainly due to the bigger boot space and lower up front costs. I personally think the GT styling of the HEV looks stupid, especially the flared arches and the skinny tyres, once you see it you can’t unsee it.

Great car to drive around. It does suffer from Turbo Lag and the DCT doesn’t help, once you get used to it, you figure out how to manage it.

Fuel range we get about 700k's to a tank. Thats city and highway driving.

Tech wise they are great, have all of the features and you can dial down the safety features as well. Except the indicator noise.

For what you pay for and a 7 year warranty, it’s a hell of a lot of car for your money. Theres a reason why these are in the top selling lists at the moment.

The new look might look worse but it is a better car overall. With telescopic steering adjust, and independent rear susp.

The Jolion is a refined car, based on its price. It is a quiet car with good sound insulation, again for the price. Other cars that cost much more like the yaris cross, suzuki are much more loud.

The previous MG ZS version was far behind. I don't think you can get better for this price.

    • +1

Wish you can dial down the safety tech permanently though!!!! “Please don’t stray” yes/no. I always laugh as there is no right answer.

  • +2

Wish LUX HEV was that price, premium HEV has very basic options compared to Lux varient.

  • +3

Any chance the hybrid could fit a 65-75" TV (in the box) in the back after folding the seats?

How about sleeping in the back if going camping and around 175cm tall? It doesn't look that way from the pictures/information I've found so far, but if it can then I would seriously consider it for my next car as everything else seems extremely good for the price.

  • +8

This is a great little car, hybrid or otherwise. Toyota's days are numbered if they don't compete with aggressive pricing

    • +3

      Yeah the corolla… 36k wtf.

    • +2

Still have waitlists for a lot of their hybrids, they'll be here for a while yet.

I personally wouldn't pay the Toyota tax, but there's plenty of people that will.

    Ohhh yuck

  • Hi, I am keen on Premium HEV. Any expert advise if $6k extra for Lux HEV is worth. I am not very keen on techs unless recommended otherwise. Thanks

    Hybrid HEV from $27,990 Driveaway

Fuuuck the premium on petrol or basic on hybrid…

  • +1

Tigga Pro 4 or the Premium?

    Which one would you pick?

  • Doesn’t sound like my 2023 Jolion Lux Petrol is going to be worth much at all when I sell in the next year or so. Didn’t buy it for resale value at least.

    1. I hope this puts pressure on toyota second hand value to reduce. (and brand new but I cant see that happening)

    2. I'm in the market for a new car and driving around an old beata atm. This brand new price for a good car gives me hope I could pick up a decent hybrid in a couple years for >12K. might drive the old beata for a few more years

    3. ive been in a uber for these i was pretty impressed.

  • Man I wonder why Uber/taxi drivers arent drriving these everywhere on the road - why are they paying 45k for a base model camry when they could have this instead?
Are they locked into that Toyota reliability mindset? Economically this makes more sense right or am i missing something

    • There are heaps of H6 HEV in Uber/renting (Jolion has small boot) at least in VIC. Camry hybrid still has one of the best fuel consumption and range per tank (~4-5L/100Km compared to H6 HEV ~6L/100km), and toyota depreciation is very slow compared to chinese brands. 2019 Camry with 200,000 KM still sells for 20k.

    • It's very simple

      • Camry = Japanese
      • Haval = Chinese

I am in the market for a Jolion Ultra petrol as wifey does not do enough kms to recoup hybrid costs…with this new drop what would be the best price for the Ultra variant? Any tips/help would be much appreciated. I will be trading in a 2016 Kia Sportage GT Line which has run 48000 kms so hoping for that to fetch at least $22K

    • You might get that for you Kia on private sale no chance for trade in. They'll offer you around 15-17k

      • Thank you for that guidance.

I am genuinely looking to buy a new car and always read the comments on OzBargain regarding posted cars. I would appreciate your suggestions on which one would be a good purchase. After reading all the comments, I got a bit confused. I am currently driving a 2010 Toyota Ascent with 229,000 kilometers. I think it's time for an upgrade. Thank you!
    Petrol version or hybrid one.

    • +1

      Hybrid

      • Thanks, is there any particular brand you would suggest,
Like me to buy, BYD, or Cherry or Haval?

        • +1

          what's your budget?

          if high byd seal 7,

if you want a cheap petrol car, get the haval hybrid

          • @wisb0: My budget is around $50,000. Is it a good idea to consider a salary sacrifice for my purchase, as I have that option available? Also, is the Byd Seal 7 available as an electric vehicle, a petrol car, or both? Thank you!

            • +2

@The king: BYD is all electric or a petrol PHEV. The Sealion 7 is all electric. Go see the cars in person to decide what you like. Ask your salary packager on the other part. If you actually want to spend up to 50k, there are a lot more better cars you can buy. If you only want a car to get from A to B this under 30k hybrid is not a bad choice at all. You will have much lower chance to lose money in this car than a 50k EV.

Also BTW, a hybrid cars driving experience will be so much better than a full petrol car.

              • +1

@wisb0: Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it! 😊

  • Are the new jolions smaller than say a 2023?

I had a look at a 2023 petrol version and it seemed bigger than most small SUVs (in a good way).

Considering getting a 2025 version as a family car.

    • +1

      The new jolion is bigger.
      Length: equal
      Width: +33mm
      Height: +7mm

      • +1

Thank you. Will take one for a test drive.

    • +1

Boot space has shrunk than 2023 model.

  • These are Hyundai Excel circa 1999 prices

  • -3

Honestly thinking of test driving this to see if its worth 10k second hand in 3 years.

  • amazing value for a Plug In Hybrid no idea how it drives

  • How does this compare to MG5S EV? Anyone done a comparative test drive?
