For anyone who has been using the CBA — More NBN, you should be aware that the current offer discount is only $10 off the RRP.
The previous offers which I used for 3 years were 30% of RRP. A significant difference.

    • +2

Yep it’s big difference I just moved to Leaptel

    • +3

Fyi - Current CBA / More offer depends on the yellow tier, e.g. diamond is $40 off per month for 36 months (new customer) or 24 months (existing customer), and then $20 indefinitely. E.g. 500/50 is $60 - so it's reasonably good for admin light NBN (i.e. no need to churn multiple times a year!) - but it's tier dependant.

      • Have they just increased the price. A few weeks ago I remember it was less than $60/m for the 100/20 plan

        • +2

Nope, $60 for 500/50 with Yello with $40/mth discount for me. Only joined More 2 months ago which I believe was after they increased based on nbn speed bump

          • @CachePC: The speed bump only happened this month, didn't it?
I'm eligible for $40/mth off since a few months ago (I think from June or July), and was thinking that I would switch after my current offer with Origin ends (I'm paying $52.5/m).

            • +1

@Averell: @Averell - yep, I got mine Sunday on FTTP. Upload speed was without restart of NBN and router but I restarted them both at same time and the download was there.

I've done Fast.com about 4 times a day to check performance and seems like 500-550 all day every day for me but I did see a 610mbps on the 500/50 plan on Sunday. May have been because it was early.

  • +9

Dodo 500/50 - $62.99pm is better than this, plus $100 cashback via topcashback with condition remain with them at least 90 days.
After received the cashback you can port out to other NBN provider.

    • Yep, having to churn at the 6 month mark again Dodo was the cheapest (aside from a "too short" 2 month Amaysim offer) and now with $100 cashback is the clear winner for us.

    • +1

How's your experience been with them? They used to have the worst reputation for reliability. Things might have changed in this NBN era. Like the person above, I am looking to churn from More after 3 years of cheap CBA plans.

    • Are you talking about nbn100. which will be then upgraded to 500?

      • 1st of Oct

    • Do dodo spam the f out of you like kogan once they get your details?

    • thx I got this although can't see deal tracked in Topcashback, should I ask them to track and add?

  • Been with Southern Phone for a few months now for $65 100/20 and soon be upgraded to 500/50 for same price and price is fixed for 12 months (not 6 months), assuming they don't increase it.

    • how has the service been? Was looking at their 1000/100 plan today

      • Its fine for me

    • price is fixed for 12 months… assuming they don't increase it.

      🤔

    • +1

That’s NOT 100% correct. It’s like $27 or something off the base rate bringing it to $65pm. So if they increase the base rate so does your bill. It’s in the T&Cs.

That said, I’m with them, I’m happy enough so far. No issues. Topcash has rebate and if they offer a free modem you could take it and sell it assuming you’ll stay for 12m it’ll still figure out cheap.

    • also got the $100 credit and TCB cashback with them, i am also thinking to stay with them for a year

  • +7

For those that care, there is no ability to opt-out of CG-NAT and no static IP option.

    • I'm currently on this price due to signing up a few months ago with promo code MATE30.
I rang them and opted out of CG-NAT for free. I get a sticky IP.
It's a very stable service (FTTP) and I'm getting speeds of 500 Mbps at the router.

      • +1

Wait, I'm confused… there is an ability to opt out?

        • I think there used to be but maybe not on new sign ups now? I am also with mate with the promo earlier this year BEIN30, and got an email about them changing to CG nat a couple months ago, but let me request to opt out of the change to keep a sticky IP. But i would assume Dice has tried this more recently and they didnt let him..

        • I had issues while WFH, i called them up and they assigned me a static IP.

        • Their website says you can't opt out, but it was very simple to do over the phone.

          • @zzymurgy: Thanks. Given some of the other comments here as to performance I may stay clear of them for now.

    • +1

Can confirm I signed dup with them a few month ago and got a static IP no issue after a quick phone call.

      Plex server working flawlessly

    • +1

not correct, have been with Mate, can opt out CGNAT via online chat support.

  • +16

Sorry Mate, you internet keeps dropping out. If anyone needs to work from home, avoid!

    • +1

Yep had same issue, left at ebd of the first month. Now with Neptune and couldnt be happier

    • +2

Not sure why you're getting negative votes. It's been my exprerience as well, and it was very frustrating. I regularly had to hotspot from my phone to make sure videocalls would be smooth. They have been the worst provider I have used, and as a regular churner, they're the only one I will effectively not return to in the future.

    • Agree. Avoid

    • +1

My current issue, will be getting out asap

      • Agreed avoid

    • +1

yes same, left within 2 weeks

    • +1

      Had similar issues around January

      • Ditto, 3 times in 6 weeks with one of them lasting multiple days and because they forgot to close out the outage case in their system I couldn't get past their helpdesk robot as "there is an ongoing outage in your area"
Never in 5 years at my current property have I had an unplanned outage except with Mate

    • +2

From what I could gather they started using a very rapidly changing dynamic IP system with no notice to customers, and wanted to charge for static IPs.
This basically meant any gaming, VPNs or anything that needed a stable IP would suffer constant disconnections.
I called them about it and after 2 hours on hold they offered static IP free, but the messing around was so bad I just changed provider.

  • +4

FYI MATE30 code gives you same discount without need to have NAB

  • +2

Just be aware that Mate used to be great early on, and I believe they changed their supplier and their speeds were horrible, in the single digits Mbps. Lots of dropouts as well. Not sure if it has improved since.

    • +1

Yes. Has to get out 2 months in after speed was below 20

  • +1

Im paying 60 for 100/20 without NAB

  • Hands down the worst NBN provider I’ve been with

  • +3

Had a terrible run with them too.. arrogant Aussie based support, avoid at all cost.

  • +4

Worst company ever. I would rather sign up a contract with Nigerian prince.

    • How are they?

  • +1

I will never touch mate internet , they want you to do all the diagnosing when obviously it's their service as it went to very slow unreliable speeds as soon as I was connected with them , out of frustration I went back to my previous provider and as soon as I was connected I was back to reliable full speed , never ever again , stay clear.

They were the worst experience I have ever had with a provider and I have been with Superloop , TPG , Leaptel , Aussie BB and Telstra and they were all great for reliability and speed.

  • +1

Mate is the only RSP I've ever requested a refund for. It was terrible

  • I'm with others - stay away. A couple of years ago had a support rep try BS me that the 20Mbps download (speedtest) on 100/20 plan was my modem. Switched to ABB, sure it cost more but nicer techs and normal speeds for a 100Mbps connection…….. and of course using the same modem.

  • +1

I dropped Mate earlier in the year after the constant drop outs making work from home impossible.
Their customer service took hours to get through to for anything.
The final straw was when one of the staff messed up the settings on my modem then told me to go contact the modem manufacturer to fix it!

  • So is Dodo stable enough to be a better option that Mate?

  • +2

I have been with a lot of cheapie ISPs .. and Mate is one of the very few I'd never join again. Worst quality net connection ever. If it's 25, 100, or 500 plan that you want, you can get Moose NBN for very close to the same price as this, works well.

  • Mate was great 2-3 years ago, til now getting more -tive reviews. I shall avoid…

  • +2

I wouldn't go back to Mate even if they offered me a free connection!

They were good up until they moved away from Vocus as their upstream provider. Once that happened, Netflix and YouTube were throttled and the sporadic disconnections started.

Their tech support wasn't much help and as soon as I moved to another provider the problems disappeared… even though I was using the exact same hardware and settings.

  • +2

Initial experience with Mate was good. Decent price and speeds, but they changed providers and speeds went to shit during peak times. It was so bad I couldn’t even load Netflix thumbnails. Raised a ticket and they got me to troubleshoot, knowing full well it was their backend (IIRC they had just moved from Vocus). Moved ISP’s and all issues disappeared.
