    Excellent deal, but isn’t southern phone pretty bad otherwise

      I was with them on FTTP for 18 months. No complaints.

      • I was with them for 2 months. Had to rip my hairs out with their random excuses on why the service went down while my friends next door had perfectly working nbn almost every weekend.

        • I'm about to contact them about my service. I can barely get half the advertised speed

  • whoa now thats some competition

    Looks like they may not offer the speed upgrades for their legacy “Fast” 100/20 plan - they now have a new tier called “Fast X” 500/40 at a higher cost

    • What you can expect with NBN touting 'free' upgrades

      • Well they did previously say it’d be upgraded free but I guess they must’ve taken the page down now

        Can anyone confirm if it did upgrade automatically?

        • +1

          I can confirm that it did upgrade automatically. A mate is on it and they're happy as a pig in …. As they're on the 1 year promo and happy with the performance.

      All RSPs are going to do this. Act like they deleted the 100/20 plans and go oh hey, look at this much faster 500/50 plan. Slap on $20 tyvm

      • Many ISPs have confirmed there is no extra cost for 500/50, 750/50 and 1000/100.

      Huh? I'm confused at what you're trying to say.

      The Fast 100/20 plan has effectively become the Fast X 500/50. That's an NBN change.

      They had the promo for a year at $65 until the 14th Sept. It's still on a 1 year promo, but now it's $75 p/m instead of $89 p/m.

      The new NBN plans are as follows:

      100/40 Mbps -> 500/50 Mbps
      250/25 Mbps -> 750/50 Mbps
      1000/50 Mbps -> 1000/100 Mbps
      New 2000/100 Mbps plan

    I switched in Jul, and the service has often been intermittent. I was originally on a 100/20 Mbps (FTTP) plan and am now on the so-called 500/50 Mbps, yet for the first time in years I’ve experienced YouTube buffering. While I did receive the free upgrade message, the experience hasn’t been great. If I run a speed test 10 times a day, about 8 times it shows 110+/47, and only 2 times does it reach the coveted 500/50 Mbps or close to it. My home network can easily handle 1gbps speed tested with Telstra $1 pm plan back in Jun.

    Customer service is non-existent—good luck getting anything done. I can’t even receive SMS alerts for login and verification, and despite raising a ticket, there’s been no resolution. I’m on Boost, but it really shows how poor their routing is, which is also reflected in their internet quality(network routing is everywhere).

    At this point, I’m just waiting for the free credit to end. I’ve been given a $100 bill credit plus cashback, which basically gives me free internet for two months. As a true OzBargainer, I’m putting up with the pain for the savings only. :-)

      Agree with the non existent customer service, helped my mate try to opt out of CG-NAT, painful experience.

      If you're someone that needs help often, and can't tolerate waiting on the phone or constantly chasing up for replies, I would suggest you steer clear.

        if you need help with nbn then probably crappy provider - nbn is just plug and play these days

  • They're owned by AGL so wouldn't they just be reselling ABB or similar?

    • AGL uses Superloop for backhaul.

      I don't know if Southern Phone is using their own backaul or has moved to Superloop.

  • Does anyone know which backhaul Southern Phone uses for NBN

  • Beware, to sign up they require you to input PPPoe, as their service doesn’t provide IPoE.

  • Is this for new customers only?
