An ISP thats been around since 2018

If you mean Exetel theyโ€™ve been an ISP since 2004

      • +5

Superloop - I opted out of CGNAT via chat a few days ago - no charge.

        • I have a static IP with them too - no charge.

        • +1

They charged me $10 a month for Static IP though

          • +1

@blx: You can opt out without get a static IP.

You might be asked a reason for why you need to opt out…

            • @jv: I can get a better ratio for downloading Linux ISOs

            • @jv: Any suggestions on what reason to give them?

              • @ps3udo: I didn't need to give a reason, just said I wanted to opt out and they did it.

              • @ps3udo: that you have a cctv system that isn't compatible

              • @ps3udo: plex server?
                home alarm?
                gaming server?

    • I just switched from exetel. Need to pick a start date 30 days from now. I think they've screwed up by offering only one plan that I don't qualify for with my address.

    • Me too, I rang exetel and the refuse to disable CG nat on the one plan, I'm out! Kents!

Do you have a PoP in Melbourne?

    • Sydney only and IPv6 is not available.

    • +3

we are working on Layer 3 with ABB and will be in all POP within 12 months

      • +1

Hi op, will not having a PoP in Melbourne have effects on performance? If so, would it be peak speed or more related to traffic and dropout.

        • +2

around 10-12 ms extra latency - may only matter if you are a day trader or competitive FPS gamer or similar

          • @blues99: lol there will be more latency in your monitor than your pop

  • @carboncomms please sharpen up your opticomm prices

OptiComm pricing is different to nbn pricing.

          • +5

            @Twix: @Twix i'm glad you know the difference :)

          • +5

@Twix: Correct. What I don't get is why OptiComm increased their pricing the last time NBN increased wholesale pricing but now their pricing has gone up for the same speeds which NBN is not charging extra for. Opticomms monopoly in estates has made them greedy!

            • +2

@ganjadeals: The government knows what Opticomm is doing, they knew what they were going to do, they chose to let this happen.

Developer said this house would be "NBN ready", specifically asked if that was NBN or Opticomm, they said NBN, now paying extra for no competition of network with an Opticomm only connection that cost +$250 install over NBN's $300 ($550).

The government is who should be at blame, Opticomm is just doing what the gov is allowing them with their per house monopoly.

      • +1

for what its worth that is still more than companies like superloop..

        • +2

Still waiting for for further price reductions on:
          250/100
          500/200
          500/50
          1000/400

          • @carboncomms: i have seen the wholesale pricing, i appreciate it is a volume game the lower you go but i think you could probably capture large markets by having a mid tier speed pack, perhaps 250/25, at sub $90

nb the wholesale prices i did see were a little while ago, i can see that it is popped up a bit since then but the point remains. there is not much that a customer would consider good under $100

        • Normal price is cheaper than Superloop
Superloop was $20 a month more for the same speed with Static IP and CGNAT

          • @blx: Superloop 500/50 is $75/mth for first 6 months then $95/mth

            • -1

@RR88: Yes, and Superloop charge you for an extra month when you churn so you end up spending more anyway

              • -2

                @blx:

Superloop charge you for an extra month when you churn

No they don't. They just require a months notice. You just need to schedule that with your new provider.

          • -1

@blx: Nope, I get free Static IP and no CGNAT with Superloop.

  • +1

What transit/ backhaul do you guys use OP?

    • +1

      ABB

      • Hey OP, thanks for prompt reply, with upgrading from 1Gbps to 2Gbps, when I place the order, so like will NBN or you guys send out a new NTD unit? I don't think existing NTD supports 2Gbps?

        • +2

NBN supplies ISPs with the new NTDs, and then they are responsible for sending them to customers. I found this out earlier today after trying to upgrade.

          • @Jai: @cloudie9
            @Jai is correct

        • The previous nbn FTTP and HFC NTD have Gigabit ports.

New nbn NTD Ports Is a New nbn NTD Required?
nbn HFC 1-port NTD one 2.5GbE RJ45 port (orange) Yes (installed by an nbn technician or delivered to you)
nbn FTTP 1-port NTD one 2.5GbE RJ45 port (orange) Yes (installed by an nbn technician)
nbn FTTP 4-port NTD one 10GbE RJ45 port (grey) and three 2.5GbE RJ45 ports (orange) Yes (installed by an nbn technician)
  • +5

For ongoing nbn plans, the prices are good.

NSW - We have both onshore and offshore team

        Cockatoo Island ?

      • How many staff do you have or are you captain and crew until you grow a little :)

        Any plans on 2Gbps ?

    • +3

Can confirm it's onshore, I spoke to a really helpful & patient dude not long after I transferred in last month.

      • Thank you sir

  • +1

    Why IPv4, not IPv6?

    • +2

      not available to us yet.

      • Oh.

      • Is IPv6 on the roadmap for the future?

  • waiting for some deals on opticomm plans.

would you guys be offering higher speeds when opticomm allows beyond 1Gbps?

    • +2

Yes we will be. Opticomm new prices coming to us 28/09/2025

      • excellent, thanks for that.

how can I know if I will need NTD upgrade or not?

if needed, is this arranged by opticomm or do we have to pay for it?

        • No clear details yet for it

      • Commenting to stay tuned, wouldn't mind a fixed deal price with a fixed IP, the churn life gets tiring.

  • I've jumped on to the 850/50 plan, no CGNAT as my primary reason. This plan is doing it's job. Very happy with it.

  • +2

Whats your cancellation policy? Any 30 days shenanigans?

    • +1

      No, it's month to month
Superloop charged me for an extra month when I churned to Carbon Comms when they refused to price match the normal price

    • This ๐Ÿ‘†. I don't ask anymore I Just cancel 5 month to be sure

  • Remind me in 6 months and i will haha Just signed with Superloop for the 6 months offer but this looks perfect for after thats over.

    • Remember to cancel a month early or you will pay for an extra month

      • Ohh good call ill set a reminder!

  • 500/200 is very appealing but just can't do it for the price. I think $120 would be the sweet spot

    • Superloop do it for $110 with a static IP if you have an ABN.

      • *$125 after the 6 month promo period.

        • -3

          unless you find some referrals….

$105 500/200 we do it for Business Service (Gold Bundled)

      Launching September with enhanced SLAs:

โ€ข Business Essential (Bronze) โ€“ 12-hour fault response

โ€ข Business Pro (Gold) โ€“ 4-hour fault response

      • +2

Interesting thanks. Do you just need an ABN to access that plan?

  • Is this a regular price? not just a 6-month / 1-year offer?

    • +2

      ongoing

  • I'm with buddy telco, if you opt for static ip there is no CGNAT either. but its $10 more than this.

    • +1

Itโ€™s only $5 more for the 1000/100. More proven company, and everything is self manageable, plus they have more PoPs. No brainer at this stage imo, but might consider carbon once they get Melb sorted

  • +4

    Great prices for everyday Australians

Unless you require a PoP in your location

  • I'm more looking into higher upload speeds (100mbps+). Does anybody know why there's a price difference between the same 250/100 plan?
One section states its $105/month, another $85/month (bronze bundle) and $99/month (gold bundle).

What's this bronze/gold bundle? I can only assume they discount it if you bundle with one of their other services.

      working on my new CIS

      • Hello, happy to sign up if you have CIS updated to reflect the new pricing/speed, as for example 500/50 is showing as $99/month (instead of $80/mth) in CIS and i'm reluctant to sign up when formal documents differ from the 'offers' pls…

  • +5

Is there a legal reason you need DOB and drivers licence details when signing up, don't remember having to provide that for other ISPs?
