This deal also applies to the Shark 6, but there is already a similar Shark 6 deal.

Shame no other cars have a promotion

Good car. Owned for 3 months now - no issues (fingers crossed).
Note that they scrapped the complimentary 3-month/5000km service - no longer considered necessary and not offered.

What's your kwh consumption so far after 3 months? Also visited one in person for the first time 2 weeks ago. The interior of the SL7 is a big step up compared to the SL6. SL7 just oozes a premium feeling.

      • To be honest, I haven't checked power efficiency. Can check later if I can find the number. But looking at percentage, we seem to get the advertised range.

Yes, the interior is amazing. I also never thought I'd appreciate air purifying in a car. And everything is so well designed and built.

    basically $58k for rwd

    $68k for 4wd

they are supposed fast as fuc in a straight line but i'm guessing it handles like a 2.5 ton beached whale on corners

    • +2

Handling around corner is fine as the car still have very low centre of gravity.

Why are folks buying an EV that can’t even crack 700 km in the real world?

    • +11

This data is from 2015, but should still be reasonably accurate. The average commuting distance is 15km or less in all the capital cities.

The distance from Melbourne to Canberra is around 700km - it's been a long time since I've even wanted to drive that distance in a day without stops. If you're one of the few people that would make that trip in one day without taking 3 x 30min+ breaks, then this car is probably not for you.

I’m out in regional NSW, not far from the VIC border, and I do the run up to Sydney every month — about 1,100 clicks. With my little hatch and a 35-litre tank, plus an extra 35 litres on board (so 70 all up), I can cruise all the way to Sydney in one hit, still have a bit left in the tank too. I’d hate the idea of stopping twice just to juice up — I’d expect to fill up once at the start, and that’s it, job done.

        • +1

i get ya but people have different expectaitons out of their cars… to me 700km is huge since i'm 99% urban

i used to do 'regional work' ie. syd newcastle wol. singleton maitland blue mountains bathurst etc.

i doubt my v8 commodore would do 1,000km on 75 liters and it was easy to work out

never had to visit a petrol station more than once every few days

        • +1

not everyone do that though. My mum has a car, i have a car. She drove around 4000 km per year in the last few years. I drove around 7000km per year for last few year. So I see you have perfect reason to go for longer range car, but you have to understand other people have perfect reason not needing a car to do 1000km a month.

And data has shown average Aus drove around 10K km per year. Like other people said, most people do short trip.

        • How much does it cost vs EV to do the trip?

        • +5

You carry an entire fuel tank’s worth of fuel just to avoid stopping to fill up? So your car’s actual range on a single tank isn’t as great as you’re trying to make it out to be.

          • @smartazz104: I presume you would still need to stop to fill up from the jerry can anyway.

      • EVs make absolute sense for most city folk specially if they have a second ICE weekender. It’s a shame they are too expensive and rapidly depreciate.

    • +3

Why are you driving 700km without taking a break? Thats not safe driving,

I've driven from Sydney to Gold Coast in a Model 3 and was as simple as plugging in during Breakfast and Lunch before arriving in time for dinner. Would have been the same when I drove my WRX but the extra stop for fuel along side Breakfast and Lunch.

      • Long black every 2 hours plus 15 minutes break, takes almost 12-14 hours ( 7 am to 8 pm)

    • +4

Because your use case is not reflective of the average Australian driver? I bought an EV because I do less than 50 km most days and can fill up for 'free' with my home electricity plan between 11-2.

      • +2

tbf we already know the guy is… 'special'

the guy does albury wondoga to syd… in one driive session non stop… in a tiny subcompact hatch and he's waiting for EVs to 'catch up'

        • +2

While carrying 35L of fuel with him so he can avoid stopping at a petrol station for some reason as if there are no petrol stations along the highway.

  • Does anyone know how long delivery takes? Last time there was a massive backlog and took almost 4-5 months

    • @cerealsmok3r I've heard people saying they got it in a few weeks, but that would depend on your colour and configuration for availability.

I think the 4-5mth wait periods are over now. I doubt they'd be offering the accessories $2k credit or these promotions if there was a 4-5mth wait still.

  • +2

For the people that have been thinking about a BYD SL7 or Shark and have factored in the $2k accessories credit promo they are offering, be aware that this $2k cash back replaces that and isn't on top of that.

Was actually quite tempted to pop down and consider it, before discovering this.

    • +3

Cash back is better than overpriced accessories

      • +1

Exactly, excluding things like towbars, what are you going to spend 2k on? No way I would get a dealer to do tint, ceramic coating or paint protection etc.

  • Can this offer be used together with $2k rebate via novated lease?

    • It looks like the novated offer has expired.
