I like this movie i know it has issues (Lex) but actually really enjoyed it

    • +4

Lex was fine tbh, it's the dog

      • +2

Dog was fine tbh, it was the director

        • +21

          It was lacking Henry Cavill

          • +2

@vid_ghost: Oh, no, no, no… imagine being associated with that movie! He literally, dodged a bullet :-)

          • @vid_ghost: We went to wolverine

      • +1

        My issue with Lex is

        (Spoiler warning)

        1. His goal is kill superman (so he says im the end) but in the movie he has not 1 BUT 2 opportunities to do so, fairly cartoon like he doesnt kill him….when his motivation was to start a war for money and power it made sense but when he says it is all to kill superman I was like but….you could of killed him twice…. TWICE!!!

        2. The commands of clone superman from his base would be so slow! there is no way it would be an effective was of fighting superman is legit faster when sound by the time the words leaves his mouth clone superman would be dead waiting for commands

Otherwise i liked the movie- yes i prefered Henry as Superman but I liked David as well. He seems human and likable. Id also say the Loise was the BIGGeST upgrade the character in man of steel was cold boring and I just didnt see the chemistry between here and Henry Cavs superman. This loise and superman seem legit. Overall I liked the movie, Justice Gang was also a nice touch.

    • +5

Had some good elements, but the tone was a bit too immature.
How come everyone can beat up Superman?
Superman was too weak in this one.

      • +3

He was beaten up by …superman ? Superman is allowed to beat up superman ….no-one else bothered him . The should have got cavil to play the bad superman and have his epic death with a closeup of his face not the other actor lol. That would have been awesome

    • +5

Woke is a bit far, maybe still half asleep

    • +2

      What's woke about it?

      • +11

Superman was nice to people. Being nice is woke

      • He wasn't Homelander.

  • I'm not on HBO Max anymore. signed up 1 month to early bird pricing ($7.99 a month base tier), early on they really had a lot of new releases coming out so I clicked cancel and they offered another 3 months at the early bird price, I accepted.
new releases kept coming a couple every month, was pretty happy, a couple I was excited for, but they were kind of a let down. overall pretty meh.
but ever since that last month of 4 months, it really died down. I cancelled. this is the first HBO Max new release in awhile.

am I going to sign up again because superman? no. it's not really on my list of want to watch tbh.

    • +1

Honestly once youve binged their goated backlog of tv/miniseries its not worth staying subbed

      • +4

I have no interest in serieses. takes up too much time. 1 season is like 8 hours, and you still don't have the full story.
1 movie is 1.5~2 hours you can squeeze it in a night and you get the whole story.

also don't like writing style of series. they deliberately drag things out and leave things unexplained "for the next episode/season". ymmv but I can't with tv series.

I focus on new release movies because that's where the value is for me. on Apple TV/Prime new releases always $29.99 to rent in the beginning, and then $9.99 or $6.99 to rent after. cheaper to month sub to a stream service that has a bunch of them you can knock down. (I usually wait until I am for sure more than a couple have been added before subbing)

        • So true. The vast majority of series now days seem like they'd be better off as movies, but instead they drag out for far too long. Alien Earth is a prime example; great first episode, but I'm over it by the fourth. I hope they're a fad and we go back to the creativity in films like we saw in the 80s-90s.

The game ain't in you no more dawg

  • -4

    Lol it's already on stream

  • +3

As a big Superman fan, I couldn't enjoy this movie sadly. Just too many characters, too much Gen Z humor (I'm Gen Z btw) and honestly not grounded at all. I get that's what they were going for, but I enjoyed Man of Steel and Superman from the 1970s more. Hopefully others enjoyed this movie.

    • -2

Agree, flying dogs and Superman (the man of steel) getting arm barred and injured is kind of stupid

    • +1

Ever since they went with James Gunn, I know it is going to be like this.

    • -1

I've had my reservations about it all thanks to JAMES GUNN. I've not enjoyed his previous work….. I severely doubt I'll enjoy his version of Superman.
I held off seeing it at the cinema (probably would have gone kamikaze style if it wasn't released smack bang during the last school holiday period), slightly tempted by the digital/vod release but have held firm so far. If I was to buy it, I'd import the 4K now (releasing next week in America, and October 8 over here according to JB).

      Still love the Superman comics
Superman 78 is my all time favourite movie

I didn't enjoy Man of Steel or Batman v Superman….. but I thought the ZS version of Justice League was passable lol.

      • +1

You didn't like guardian of the galaxy ….wow….only good thing marvel ever did those movies . Only marvel movies with a story, good characters and some emotion lol

        • -1

Nope! I rate David Hasslehoff's Nick Fury movie as a better experience

    • +4

I didn't like it much either, but it probably is the most "Superman" Superman film ever made, its by far the closest to the style of the comics.

    • Gen Z humour? I saw none …I'm Gen X …it was funny as hell when it was suppose to be , no Gen anything .

    • -2

it's always some dated terms that they use so that it can have a bit of nostalgic effect.
lemme guess so Superman with slick back hair asks Lex luther if it's bussin bussin no cap?

also I would guess it's very subtly possibly hinted at that, superman could maybe subtly possibly be gay. 🤣

    • Same page.

I want Superman to stop a missile; catch falling plane; defeat a human baddie. I’m so done with large monsters and stupid large scale, multiple “thing” fights. And not everything has to be funny.
Gunn was the wrong man for this job.
      And robot helpers….puhlease

      • +2

Gunn brought Comic Book Superman to the screen.

Personally, I don't like comic book superman lol, but at least he was faithful to the source.

    • +2

      too much Gen Z humor

      Iike what?

    • Got to watch the whole thing silly . It trys to trick you it's a certain type of movie in first 20 or 30 minutes , to get rid of some of those rabid last decade superman fans . It then is very good after that .

      • +1

Front loading a movie with unwatchable cringe. A bold strategy.

        • Which elements did you find cringe?

          • -2

            @Nillionaire: The dog
            The robot assistants
            The cgi
            The color grading
            The dialog
            The acting

Literally nothing about it was good. I rarely turn off a movie once i start but this movie was painful

            • +1

@gruffjaguar: Ah okay. I loved the dog as Krypto the Superdog on Cartoon Network was one of my favorite shows as a child. I loved the color grading and I hated Zack Snyder's. I don't disagree on the other points, I just wasn't bothered by them. Thanks for your perspective.

This just seems like advertising, there is no 'bargain', why is this posted here and not in the forums?

      • This movie was only in theatres and not available on streaming.
      • Streaming is cheaper than cinemas.
      • This movie is now available on streaming and thus it's a bargain.
      • If you don't consider these bargains, you can hide deals from this category in your settings.
      • Thanks, i'll hide these. Though i respectfully disagree, I still see no deal here and think this is just an announcement. And vindicated by the fact there is a whole section apparently on OZB dedicated to opting out of getting these 'deals'. I think this should be opt in, feed filling up with 'show/movie X is now available!!'

  • +11

It was woke? I honestly didn't notice anything.

Thought it was an entertaining popcorn movie, but I'm not really a big superman aficionado so maybe it didn't bother me like it would someone who is.

    • +5

Op probably just didn’t like it and has no vocabulary.

    • +2

Yup, think the op has no idea what woke means. Superman and classic superheroes are generally the opposite of woke, but hey maybe being a nice kind superhero means you are woke and watching it means we are woke and the whole world is going woke. I woke up and smelt the coffee..

  • +1

stopped watching after 10 mins. Just like Matrix 4

  • +4

This was one of my fav movies of winter, probably the only one besides weapons id ever watch again. If you like james gunn movies you will like this.

    • weapons

Zach Cregger's weapons yes!! now that is a movie I am excited for. Superman not so much.

but no matter what I cannot bring myself to pay $29.99 to rent it right now to watch it on my ipad. I am strongly resisting though. google tells me it should be coming to either HBO Max or Primevideo for streams. but I might just cave in when it becomes $6.99 to rent on Apple TV.

  • This was pure slop

  • +2

Like some others, I didn't really enjoy this. I'm not sure who they were targetting but I thought the tone of the movie was either wrong, or inconsistent. It wasn't awful, there were some good moments but I don't know if I could recommend it.

  • I'll NZB it

  • +6

It was a fun move to watch. Looking forward to seeing how Gunn’s DC world expands.

  • +12

This post is woke. These comments are woke. This website is woke. Everything is woke.

    • I admit it is an old word which has lost most of it's meaning, but it was the best way I could describe my "probably" so I used it. 😀

  • I did not like this movie but that means I was not it's target audience.

It felt like less Superman and more James Gunn plus Disney let's appeal to everyone - a light popcorn and diet Pepsi movie without much depth (he tries but the tonal balance was all over the place).

I love his first Guardians movie it was the most fun movies I have ever seen and the third was a meaningful finish.

It did not feel as ambitious as the first two Richard Donner movies, Man of Steel or Superman Returns. There were many forgettable characters (no Kevin Costner or Margo Kidder to humanise Superman). Action scenes that did not have that 'wow' factor just a lot of noise, cuts and the use of wide and fish-eye angle lens took away from any connection to the characters.

I will just leave this here: https://www.reddit.com/r/shittymoviedetails/comments/1n9bosk…

If you want a safe Superman-lite film similar to Suicide Squad (2021) you may like this film.

    • No, its absolutely pure superman.

The most "superman" superman that's ever been superman'd. It injected straight comic book Superman into the movie sphere. Personally, I don't like comic book superman, but this was by far the most faithful anyone has been to the source, outside the Animated shows.

Its a comic book after all. It's meant to feel like a comic book. There's not much depth…. because its a comic book. The tone is all over the place, because the comics are all over the place.

  • +3

This is a bloody good movie , I love Iggy pops new song in it . Brief visit from Supergirl makes it look like her movie next year will be interesting… It's much better then the past Superman movie wise.

    • +1

      Wash your mouth out.

  • +2

Worst movie of the year for me. Almost unwatchable.

It makes Shazam and Black Adam feel like Citizen Kane.

  • -1

I rated the Lex Luther movie 5/10. If you swapped Superman with Supergirl as the protagonist. The whole movie would have been better and made more sense. It's not woke it's just Superman can't deliver his lines with conviction and he doesn't use all his powers. There's a giant plot hole in the story involving Supergirl in my opinion.
Lex Luther is the best Lex we've seen.

    • +1

      Um…Gene Hackman
      Kevin Spacey
      Michael Rosenbaum.
A potato on a wooden skewer.
      All better

  • Really disappointed by the movie. Lacked any character development. But can see a real split in what people think. So worth a look for those on the fence

  • Not even for free

  • Worse superman ever. Dont bother.

    • List of worse movies featuring superman:

      • Man of Steel
      • Superman vs Batman: Dawn of Justice
      • Justice League
      • Zack Snyder's Justice League

No disrespect to Henry Cavill, he's amazing. Zack Snyder is not.

      • I thought Man of Steel was okay.

        The rest…. yeah absolutely horrible.

Snyder is such a hack, how does anyone fund his films.

      • What do you think of the Superman from the live action tv show? I think he is a good superman too

  • high seas maybe

  • +5

Felt like a movie set in Superman: The Animated Series. Enjoyed it.

Cant believe people are criticising the movie for standard Superman things like Krypto, his robots, and Lex not outright killing Superman.

    • Yep that's the vibrant Superman I grew up with from S:TAS and JL:TAS

  • +1

With all honesty I enjoyed this movie. Was not expecting to tbh. The robot assistant were a little weird and so was the satirical perspective. But overall good movie.
    Did not mind lex.

  • Weakest superman i ever seen. They Even made the dog stronger than superman. Had to save superman twice. At least give him some powers.

    • This was not a Superman movie. This was a Superman movie. And that's the best part, I loved it.

    • Superman was a lie, we were fooled by Hollywood, someone said that.

  • dont see the purpose of going to a cinema anymore when you can be safe in your own home with cheap snacks and the movies are available 2-6 weeks after premier

    • For standard cinemas, I agree, but:

      • I don't have IMAX at home, Darling Harbour does.
      • I don't have 4DX at home, Event Cinemas does.
      • I don't have ONYX at home, HOYTS does.
      • I don't have a view of the Harbour Bridge & Opera House at home, WestPac OpenAir does.
      • I don't have a beach at home, Mov'in Bed does.
      • I don't have grass at home, Moonlight Cinemas does.

Don't get me wrong, I still watch the vast majority of movies at home, on my bed, on my phone.

  • +1

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman rescuing kids from the evil IDF!

  • Tried to watch this last night on HBO Max via IQ5 box and apart from the dog at the very start which I was like “ARE THEY OFF THEIR HEADS?” the overall quality of the stream was down compared to other movies.

Not sure if this is because the movie was getting hammered on their servers last night but it didn’t feel right in some sections.

Decided to watch Final Destination Bloodlines which was fine.

  • +2

Always loved superman, but this was meh. So inconsistent. Some good parts and I liked his return to the classic idealistic superhero. But for the love of dog, can the multiverse bollocks die already.

  • -1

Maybe the worse Superman movie ever IMO.

    • it wasn't very good, but compared to Batman vs Superman it was a masterpiece lmao
