Mainly privacy. Using a VPN masks your IP address by using server relays, useful for maintaining anonymity.
Which can be bad if you assume your IP address is masked but you haven't checked for leaks first. A browser extension, firewall app or router could have a setting enabled that overrides your anonymity. https://browserleaks.com/ is a good place to start to check IP address, DNS and WebRTC leaks. Plus you need to enable kill switch on the VPN otherwise if the connection drops out and you don't have kill switch on you will be exposed.

You might wish to use a VPN from this December instead of doing face scans when using social media, YouTube, web search, chatgpt and whatever other sites the eSafety Commission dictates needs your biometrics "for the children". These biometrics will inevitably be leaked or hacked, and while you can change your drivers licence, you can't as easily change your face.

If you jump through a few hoops, you can use NordVPN over Wireguard.
Works great for me, but needs maintenance around once a year to update the servers.

You have to re-download the config file every 15 minutes (legit). It's entirely useless haha.

It won't be 100% anyway, Nord use USA currency even if you choose a non-GST country like Christmas Island (where the recognised currency is AUD also). They charge an effective 6% in currency exchange.
For me, 2 yrs worked out to $6 (after cashback).

Used cash rewards for similar deal before.
1. Only get basic VPN not any extras.
2. Will be charged in USD converted to AUD and cash back amount is paid in USD converted to AUD at the time of cash back so it will not always be same amount. - worked in my favour last time and got 110% cash back due to exchange rate changes.
3. NEVER renew. Only cancel and sign up with new cashback deal with new email.
Nord VPN is good for my purpose - international video streaming based on geolocked services. Works well and not much buffering.
