So my Baseus automatic clamped car charger mount has officially dead (90% of the time it refused to charge my iPhone for no good reason anyway). So, I needed a simpler replacement and stumbled across this AINOPE Gravity Air Phone Mount, previously posted for $15.27 here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/869770

Similar mechanism to my old Baseus, but hopefully less drama. I will give it a go, and it’s even cheaper than before with 50% off, so this is the real ATL! but seriously, AINOPE… sounds like “ain’t no hope”, hopefully the opposite of my Baseus experience…

$9.94 for Amazon Business (50% discount on business price applies automatically at checkout)

  • Thanks! Will give it ago

  • Bought this one in December last year. Best phone holder I've used. Highly recommended.

  • Had one, worked great and till I bumped it as I had it close to the wiper/indicator with where the vents were located in the driver side of the car.

Air vent mount so they tend to break. Someone else certainly had issues last time.

    • Before hook vent mounts were popular, I had to buy one individually.

Had something like this for over 4 years now, never had to adjust it since I installed it. It has an arm swinging out too, so puts more pressure onto the mount and vent I'd imagine

    • Thanks for mentioning that comment!

hmmm what good is a phone mount these days with apple carplay and android auto? or is this for cars with no apple carplay or android auto?

    • +1

Cars without would be one case.

A console mount still makes sense too if you have a head unit with CarPlay or Android Auto. Many of the head units are still cabled so you need your phone somewhere to connect it up. Might be that a mounts a good place to put it depending on where your USB ports etc are.

Also many are also chargers. Having a QI charger can be awfully convenient for recharging your phone as you commute. I have a MagSafe charger for this reason on my dash. It’s out of the way and super low effort to dock and undock without having loose cables etc around in the center console.

The iPhone and head unit can also show complementary data. If you’re using navigation the head unit can show maps while the phone has a list of upcoming turns, which might be handy if the head unit is smaller and not showing as much info on it. I’ve noticed my phone when doing this is often showing me several more turns ahead than what appears on my head unit, which generally just shows me the next turn.

But mostly I think it’s really just that you still probably want to put your phone somewhere even if you have a head unit.

      • What is qi charger btw? I seqrch googlr seems like a word for wireless charger? Is that correct?

        • Yeah it’s a wireless standard used by mobile phones.

I like those or MagSafe (which I use in my car) as I can drop the device on the dock and it’ll position itself automatically (either with arms or magnets) and don’t need to mess about connecting a USB-C cable.

Neither QI or MagSafe do data transfer but. My CarPlay is wireless but not all cars have that.

  • Does it work on round airvent of merc a200?

  • Would like something like this, except my car has no vents :|

    • Just curious what car doesn't have vents? Are we maybe talking about a hot rod?

      • Tesla Model Y

Looks like plastic. It will break. Better off getting a metal one. The plastic backing tends to break.

    • vent fins are plastic, would you rather have broken backing on a $12 phone holder or broken vent fins?

    Im from Straya mate !!

  • Back up to full price ?

  • I'm a heavy Waze user and this is by far the best car charger I have used https://amzn.asia/d/cEC6HQO
Strong magsafe, sturdy vent installation and cooling function!

If you keep throwing you phone in the mount like the video, its going to cost you more to replace broken vents, especially in the cheap chinese cars. I use a magnetic mount and fine it much easier to use .

      • Which one?

        • Ah sorry. I though gregfiona were referring to the one posted in this deal 🤣🤣

I use a hoco magnetic mount magsafe charger

    • Nice.
Shame it won't work with newer Samsungs

      • You can buy a magnetic case. Im using an encased rugged case. Magnet is strong and can be compared to otterbox defender. Customer service is top notch

    • Just curious what is a heavy waze user means?

      • Uber driver

        • Oĥhhh right, thanks!

        • Not Uber, travelling 36k km/year for work

These snap your vent fins. Not worth it.

    • Is it the hook that snaps it?

I use the spring one, but still concerned, though no problems as of yet

      • Is it the hook that snaps it?

Yes, it you tighten it a bit too much (which is easy to do), the fins snap off.
