  • Anyone tried updating to the beta and lose glinet UI?

  • -4

i got one for $14.97 on the 9 July 2025

    • must've been a price error?

        • +2

You should mention that it was in combination with the $20 off first order promo with Amazon Business.

            • +2

              @Far Cough:

This is like 100% more than the prev deal so I don’t know how it’s a deal

Do you know that time machines, to go back to July, don't exist ?

            • +3

              @Far Cough:

Yeah I did, in the link i posted.

The link is to the $34.97 deal. Your post was buried in the comments somewhere.

It's misleading to simply state it was $14.97 here without also clearly mentioning that was a once-off price due to an amazon business promo.

This is like 100% more than the prev deal so I don’t know how it’s a deal

That was a limited-quantity deal that was only available for about 90 minutes. It may or may not ever come back. It would be pretty silly to never ever post a deal just because it cost more than a very limited-time offer.

  • Does it natively run openwrt firmware or you have to flash it?

    • If it's anything like the Flint it does it natively.

      • -1

It seems to run its own custom firmware based on openwrt - so most likely yes.

I would recommend flashing the official openwrt firmware given this router comes out of China/Hong Kong.

Alternativey, you can harden the stock firmware by disabling certain cloud features and blocking all outgoing traffic to China etc…

  • upset when I realised this is not a mobile broadband router, really need one for my JB data sim.

    • You can get any modern ~$200 phone and just do 4/5g+ mobile tether, then hook that to a mobile router like the gL.iNet Beryl AX (which is optional since phones are really good at mobile hotspots). Bonus is that it's a fully functional phone for ~$200 and not a $500 Netgear Nighthawk BS mobile 4g modem router lol.

      • The phone's battery will age very quickly if hotspot sharing is always on.

        • It'll actually have better battery than mobile hotspot device lol. I use one every day.

        • Yup, better to USB Tether to a router that accepts Mobile USB tethering such as gL.iNet Beryl AX, FritzBox 7490 (or similar)

I have a cheapo Oneplus Nord 5G hooked up to a Fritzbox.
Bonus as it doubles as Household bills app manager/Spare delivery apps churner/home wifi devices manager etc

      • +1

Beryl is great just FYI seeing speeds of 700mbs on wifi from my iPhone 13 Pro max when it’s connected to Ethernet.

Planning on taking it overseas to get around the whole single device at hotels etc

Also read a good tip that removing Ethernet from the TV in a hotel room can get you free/non speed limited internet and you just hotspot it

    • Gl.inet also make 4g and 5g routers, but they are much pricier than standard routers. I have the X2000 which is 4g, cost around $230 on Amazon. The X3000 is 5g but costs over $600.

      Or could get this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/924086

  • The router has no external antennas (4 internals only) so it might have smaller coverage compared to other wifi 6 routers. This was noted in previous deals.

  • +1

i will buy another one for $34 like last time

I think Eero series over this?

  • Supported by upstream OpenWrt now, but you need the snapshot build for now until a new stable release happens. 802.11ax stuff that can run upstream OpenWrt is pretty hard to come by here so it's a pretty good deal. https://openwrt.org/toh/hwdata/gl.inet/gl.inet_gl-b3000

  • Great router. Purchased on prime day and still in the box.
