fantastic deal, time for me to retire my petrol mower. Now I can cut the grass early on the weekend without the neighbors cursing and throwing things at me, telling me to stfu.

    • +1

I actually kind of like hearing that to start my day, unless you meant doing it at 5am in winter months.

    • +1

LOL those sounds are rough when trying to sleep in from an eventful night prior!

    • electric ones a bit quieter but still make quite a bit of noise, I wish you are not my neighbour lol.

Good deal but I owned this but sold it because it consistently fell short. The mower lacked enough torque, which caused it to cut out, and its battery didn't last long enough to finish the job without needing a recharge. On top of that, its rear wheels flared out, making it tough to get close to the edges, especially when mowing anti-clockwise. It simply isn't as refined as my battery-powered Honda.

    • +1

      Which Honda did you get?

      • +1

They only have two models, got the self propelled one, as good as their petrol one and it has never stalled on me once. Got the fathers day package last year, self propelled mower, line trimmer, blower, 2ah and 4ah battery plus charger for $1500.

    • +2

You need to make 2-3 passes if the grass is longer than level 4 on the mower… then buy more batteries so you can finish the job. And maneuverability is terrible.

I agree, it falls very short.

That's why petrol is the king still

For those who don’t know: TKD are more or less Bunnings (now owned by them) and I try to avoid both on items I can by from TT OR Sysney tools, unless there are amazing deals. If Bunnings kill off either of them , then prices are certain to rise.

    • +3

Yup Bunnings bought out Adelaide Tools and rebranded them as TKD. They're slowly opening stores around the country to take on Total Tools and Sydney Tools. Especially since they can't get Milwaukee etc. in Bunnings.

      • This is definitely what they are doing. Milwaukee is last major TTI tool brand that Bunnings have yet to get their hands on exclusively.

I really don't want to see Total Tools and Sydney Tools and all the smaller places shut out, but it won't be for lack of Bunnings trying to.

        • As long as the tradie continue going to Total and Sydney tools Bunnings have their work cut out for them. TKD just doesn't compare in overall range.

    • +2

I prefer shopping at total tools as you can make use of certain Ultimate Gift cards

Have one of these, very happy with it. I have a smallish lawn, which I can cut 3 time on a single charge. Whilst not silent, they are significantly quieter than a conventional mower.

A sharp blade is even more important in an electric mower, get a spare one, so you always have one sharpened ready to go.

    Part number: 199367-2

Stick with petrol. Electric are junk.

    • +2

A cheap 18V only electric mower is junk. 36V and above is good.

      • Are they though? I tried a Ryobi 36V Electric and I couldnt even finish my front yard (which isnt that big), without it cutting out every half single line. It was so frustrating to use I took it back on the spot. My petrol one gets through it no problem. I would love to not hassle with petrol but it really turned me off electric mowers.

        • Tbh I've never really seen a good Ryobi electric mower.

        • If the grass is wet and you're trying to cut more than 1 - 2 inches off the top, the grass gets stuck in the front of the catcher.
Dry grass is no problem for 36v mowers.

      • Read the listing, it's 2X18v, therefore 36v…..

        • +1

Of course it is I posted the deal and no one saying it's not 36V. The cheap Ryobi 18V mowers that can't take two batteries to be 36V are rubbish.

    • Only if you have a very large yard, and somewhat rough and uneven.

Otherwise electric is perfect, instant start, zero maintenance, and much quieter.

18V battery powered tools are hot garbage.

Still using a 13 year old 36V Bosch lawn mower. Original battery, original cutting blade. Still cuts front and back on a single charge.

      • it's 36v. (2x18=36)

  • This or the EGO mower?

    • +1

Depends on if you have power tools from either brand or planning to get some.

I have Makita 18V power tools, so makes sense to stay in the ecosystem.

Swapped Honda petrol mower, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, blower to Makita, very happy with the tools. Though not so much when it's time to use them.

  • I have the ego mower and line trimmer. Best investment ever. No petrol, no oil, no running out off either. I have 3 batteries (1 large with the mower, 2 small work the line trimmer). 2 chargers too
680 sqm land, I do it with 2 batteries.

  • And oh so quiet too!

  • +1

Got mine from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/659817

After a couple of years the switch mechanism became a bit worn/loose, couldn't start the mower even when switch bar is fully lift.

Remediated it using a cable tie inside the switch housing, has been working perfect.

Let me know if you want to see a photo of it.

    • Can you share? I’d like to disable the switch bar completely it’s a terrible design and requires way too much pressure.
I currently use the plastic clip that hold the cable to the arms to hold the switch to the handle but it y will fail soon.

    • thanks browser that's good info - would love to see pic for future reference

    • Turns out the mod is in the safety switch side, not the switch housing. Will take a picture this arvo.

  • Will this be good for a big sloping backyard. Understand that its not self propelled.

  • Any deals on a battery cylinder mower?

  • Any deals on a compatible wipper snipper to complete the set? Can’t find anything cheap

    • DUR368, mostly only have to have it in speed 2 out of 3.

  • I have one of these. No problem with the cutting power (just don’t be a moron trying to shove it into overgrown grass) or the batteries (one set does the lawn no probs.

My criticisms of it is that it doesn’t throw the grass into the catcher very well so I find I have to periodically tilt it back and give it a jiggle to get the grass to move to the back of the catcher. If the grass is even slightly wet, forget about it.

    • Yup, wet grass is definitely the problem. Dry grass I don't get any issues.

    • Wet grass is always a problem even for petrol mowers, just wait for a dry sunny day.

  • Any one think you can price match this at Bunnings and get a $150 Bunnings gift card also?

    • just tried two bunnings.

1 - dont match TKD as they own them
2 - cant math the gift card/shop bucks promo

  • Great mower! I have had mine for 5 years and it hasn't missed a beat. When the grass is really thick it speeds up and just works through it!

  • That's a good deal, especially if you live close to a store and don't need to pay $150 for freight.
