I Noticed People Driving over The Concrete Lane Dividers

driving you guys like cars right.

well here is one major fail I keep seeing.

on a road like this, with a raised short piece of concrete in the middle line. when people are coming out of that side street they keep trying to indicate and turn right, when there is a concrete thing there.

then they drive over the friggin concrete and scratch up the bottom of their car.

does the concrete need reflective yellow on it or something? keep seeing people do this.

        And neither did those drivers turning right over the concrete median strip.

    yes, painting kerbs helps, but there are better ways to fix it. You ascii diagram looks like very bad intersection design.

      what no it's not a intersection. it's a two lane road, and the street 90 degrees is where the car is.

            They have created an intersection. It's the place where they meet

            Which way the car can turns from the little street is irrelevant unless it is unlawful.

            The traffic can only turn left from that road because it seems to be a one way road. There is an obstacle preventing a driver leaving that little side road from turning right onto that carriageway transporting traffic in that direction.

            The barrier and road beyond your special intersection, are not an intersection and do not form part of your intersection.

            They are simply barriers to prevent people coming from your intersection from turning right onto that part of the road.

            Probably because they wanted to make things more frustrating and inconvenient for people's lives, especially for those already having a really awful day.

          SUV has become a ridiculously large and encompassing category. A slightly raised Mazda 3 is an SUV.

          I think OP was really referring to P plated Ford Ranger drivers.

      definitely not.

      that's what I mean it's not a intersection. the little raised concrete is supposed to be enough to have people know "you can't turn right here". but people keep doing it.

      if you have a high car maybe it's not much of a problem. most of the cars I see doing it are small cars, and once it almost got stuck.

      The raised median is even more obvious than an unbroken centre line.
      The latter is easy to ignore, the former is no match for most SUVs.

      yeah kind of maybe. I also heard long covid is affecting many's ability to drive.

      friend of mine still seems to drive as usual though (not saying great or bad). but it's been pretty terrifying being a passenger when someone on the road decides to drive like it's a video game. basically over taking 2 or 3 lanes at a time, getting stuck behind a car, changing lanes twice again and then speeding ahead as if "everyone else going the speed limit is in the way". if you think that's scary as a driver, I promise you 10x more scary when you are a passenger.

    I noticed a lot of people making this driving mistake that, where there is a sign with number in a red circle, cars still go faster.

    keep seeing people do this.

    Does the sign need better explanation, like "maximum speed" written on it or something?

      We may need signs that show minimum cruising speeds.

      Like 50 in a 70 zone with little traffic is too slow.

        how do you intend to determine that the driver is cruising?
        maybe they are preparing to stop.
        maybe they are slowing for a hazard.
        maybe they are driving to weather conditions.

        maybe you wouldn't be in such a rush if you allowed reasonable time for your journey.

          I would imagine the officer observing the driver's actions and the surrounding conditions for about 10 seconds would go a fair way towards dispelling those possibilities. Similar to how one could tell if a driver is failing to keep left unless overtaking - no other cars on the road is a bit of a giveaway, as is not actually overtaking anyone during a five-minute stint in the right lane with light traffic.

          Sounds like it'd be somewhat beneficial to establish a common understanding of what 'reasonable' looks like, say between 50-70 in a 70 zone as suggested? Signs seem like a step too far to me though - 20-25% below the posted limit sounds "unreasonably slow" to me for the purposes of enforcement.

      A lot of people do not seem to know what "Stop" means. They think it means slow down, or give way.

      It's the same people that cut in front of trucks, buses and trams and then proceed to turn right at the next street, often holding up the vehicle the cut in front of.

      • I always picture them yelling at clouds when I cruise past them at the next set of lights.

    This is very minor when you realise that most drivers have no idea how to use an indicator. For several years I had assumed it was a subscription service to use in Oz and that most drivers had decided not to subscribe 🤔

      Go to the US. In most states, almost no one indicates. Super annoying.

        • I have a German car and I use the indicator when required.
          So sick of people who can't drive giving us a bad rep!

      The rule here is to indicate after you move. It takes some practice, but I've become pretty good at it.

          Turn corner, optional brake if you are so far on the other side of that you are going to hit someone, but try the horn first to see if they move, then indicate if you happen to remember

      When they used hand signals before indicators were installed, how did Australian drivers indicate that they were turning left?

      • Right = arm straight out
        Left = arm out, bent 90° at elbow.

      The only "r-slurs" here are the drivers driving like entitled "cunce" and literally giving the "urban plan designers" something "justify their jobs" with.

      It people just drove like respectful and polite courteous drivers, there would be no "need" for these measures, but most people can't be trusted with a loaf of bread, let alone a 2 tonne car.
