Taking this and going bush, put some sticks between my fingers and call myself the wolverine.

The sticks will be the most reliable survival tools in your possession.

$15 is good value as a gift for a teenager, but I recognise some of those pieces and they're extremely low quality.

I definitely wouldn't want to rely on that compass in a real survival situation, even though I'll never be in one, and would probably have forgotten the kit if I were.

    • I definitely wouldn't want to rely on that compass in a real survival situation

Compasses are fairly simple devices, you can make your own basic one….. the only thing I'd be worried about is how easily the Kogan one would be damaged, a lot of cheap ones take a knock and they're complete rubbish after that.

    • You check the compass beforehand - does it always point North.

Even if it fails, use the sun and a watch - if you don't wear a watch, estimate the time and hand position.

Don't worry, people who do these things have spare maps on their watches, GPS devices, with bread crumbs, etc.

In a real survival situation you really need only 3 items:

      1) your phone to call for help
      2) power bank to keep your phone charged
      3) decent case to protect your phone from water/damage.

If you are going deep into the bush, you need 4 additional items:

      1) any PLB
      2) two snake bandages
      3) basic emergency blanket/bivvy
      4) water purification tablets/filter (eg. sawyer)

Everything else is really only if you plan to film a Youtube video on 'Surviving alone in the forest from Altoids survival kit'

    Wow crazy fake rrp.

    • Yeah, but fire rods often ask $15 so this is still a good deal

Will this help me survive the cost-of-living crisis?

Only if you use the included knife strategically

      • Jeez, idk if that comment was intended to be as dark as I interpreted

    3 bottle openers!!

No wonder Koganistan’s military is in such poor shape if this is the quality of equipment their soldiers are being provided.

  • +1

Bah. All I need is my showbag Rambo knife.

    • Is that where it came from? Wondering how one of my siblings acquired one as a child many decades ago.

    • Banned in victoria

I wonder if Desi is using this to survive on mt Buller?

    • When I first heard of this saga, I thought of Rambo 1

  • what junk - you pay for what you get.. cheap is cheap crap.

  • Highly questionable value at $14.99, rrp $79.99 is a total rip-off.

  • Military grade = cadets
