Aqara U100 Smart Door Lock with E1 Kit $199 (RRP $499.99) Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Bunnings (Special Order)

520

Bunnings dropped the price of the Aqara U100 smart lock that now matches Officeworks (who have been out of stock for weeks).

I recently installed the Aqara U100 from a previous more expensive deal and have kept an eye on prices to snag another, turns out Bunnings has delivered!

Was a simple install, feels really high quality and comes with all the equipment you'd need (including two keys and two fobs as well). I recommend the U100 over the U50 as the fingerprint is the fastest/most convenient way to open. Added to homekit and works flawlessly (I don't use the included hub).

  • I take it this is to install on the deadbolt of my door and easy to DIY?

    • +3

Correct this replaces an existing deadlock. The existing deadlock on my door already had a hole that was the correct size and location, but there is a range that will work (you can extend the deadlock bolt length). Check the video for a more detailed explanation.

Thanks for that! Look dead simple to me!

  • This would work with any ZigBee hub right? I've got a Mercator one that I'm running out smart lights with.

Edit: Just realised it comes with its own hub, weird they don't make that clearer.

    • No it doesn't work with any zigbee hub, even though we have other hubs need to use the one it comes with

Tempting, but i'm really hoping some of the UWB locks announced at CES back in January get released soon, seems by far the best solution.

Wish I didn't look up what that is, I'll tell myself that those looks like be $500+ so out of my price range

  • Thanks. Tried price matching with JB but unfortunately, they wouldn't do it since it's a special order. Ordered via Bunnings instead.

  • How's the fingerprint recognition? I've been using a Lemaar one and added myself as maybe 5 different fingerprints now from different angles and the success rate is still <50%

And given the two tones, would this look aesthetically better with a silver or black door pull?

I bought one from the OW sale and so far fingerprint is fantastic. Not a single missed so far.

    • It's great as long as you set it up properly

We have had this on our door for the last two months of our new build - it’s a brilliant unit and has been flawless so far. After two months, batteries are currently 98% with below average use mostly trades or friends coming in the front door.

It’s nice to be all rugged up in bed and my automation confirming the front door is locked.
I have also managed to get locked out already with nothing on me but my watch. Held it near the interface and I was back inside!
We gave friends and family digital HomeKit keys so they can come straight in when visiting (linked to doorbells and security cameras so we already see them on the Apple TV beforehand).

    Would definitely recommend.

    • What type of batteries do you use? Rechargeable or non-Rechargeable, 1.5v or 1.2v?

  • +1

Great price. Have one (without the E1 kit) that replaced my Yale Assure. Fingerprint is really handy, I don't tend to use the Apple Home Key but it's nice having the option.

One annoying caveat that it relies on a gyroscope to detect when the door is closed rather than a magnet. So if you leave the door ajar slightly if stepping out for a few seconds, it tries to lock, fails, and then chimes repeatedly. You could disable the auto-lock on close, but I don't feel that's a reasonable solution. The recalibration of the 'door close sensor' doesn't seem to help.

  • Does anyone know if this is fire rated? It seems all the nicer smart locks aren't rated for apartment fire doors.

  • Looking for a smart lock for my door which has a mortise lock. Anyone has any recommendations?

    • yep theres a Yale assure one for screen doors that I just used last month.

      • I was looking at getting one but the reviews didnt seem great

      • Could you please send a link to yours? The Assure series seem to be for deadbolt. Thanks

    Is this VIC proof?

    • +8

Yes but not 9 news proof

      • -2

Ah yes, it's the ones reporting on the crime that are the problem.

        • breaking news: water is wet

          • -1

@Brick50: What is that reply even supposed to mean?

There is a large amount of crime in Vic so we don't need to report it because everyone already knows that?

            • @Binchicken22: That crime is prevalent everywhere, I have not seen or experienced any violent crime for as long as I can remember. Sounds like you watch 9 news every night at 6pm based on your comment where they prey on people like yourselves worrying yourself about something that will likely never happen to you.

You're making it sound like crime is only a problem in Vic, back in the day news was far more local but nowadays people worry about something that happened 800kms away from them

              • -1

@Brick50: Well for starters, you've picked me all wrong. I don't even have the antenna connected to my tv. I had to use the 9 now app to watch the Grand final on the weekend, so no, no 6pm news for me.

Secondly, I don't see how you can seriously be making the point with a straight face that "I haven't seen any violent crime!? So why tf are they reporting it! Everything is fine!"

I feel like it's literally the job of these reporters to report on things… Crime, especially violent crime, has always been something reporters report on… This isn't new.

If the fact that violent crime being reported on shines a bad light on a particular community you are fond of, or makes the policies of your political party look bad… Then maybe, just maybe, that isn't because those things are being reported on, maybe it's because they are happening (you just haven't witnessed them first hand so they don't count I guess)

                • -1

@Binchicken22: So you don't think there has been a disproportionate amount of news on Victorian crime? reporters want you to click on articles, and it seems people like you continually fall for the clickbait ones that instill you with fear.

QLD has more crime than VIC, more assaults than VIC and more property offences. Why do you think VIC has a crime problem? I agree there should be less crime, but everywhere. It's just on brand to slag off Vic at the moment but take a look in your own backyard.

Funniest part is you're more likely to need a secure lock where you live vs me.
The only direct family members I know who have been robbed happened in SEQ on holidays haha.

                  • -1

@Brick50: You aren't even staying consistent with your points… You are saying news should be local and yet you seem to think Vic news should report on what's going on in Qld because it's apparently worse? (hint, it's only worse in Qld because of the regional areas, metro Brisbane is "safer", statistically, than Sydney or Melbourne)

The Vic news is reporting on checks notesVictorian news finally enough… As far as there being a disproportionate amount of reporting on Victorian crime issues outside of Victoria, no, I wouldn't say so… The only stuff I can recall lately is two kids under 15 getting stabbed to death in a suburban street, which yeah, is kinda national news in Australia, that stuff doesn't happen in Australia, at least, it shouldn't.

Read few problem with this lock unresponsive after 3 month. And need mechanical key to unlock

    • Go back to Bunnings and get it replaced…

  • No Matter/Thread support?

    • No, but HomeKit native. Set it up once in the Aqara app and then never touch it again.

  • I've had a U100 for over 18 months, and its been brilliant. It's been installed and moved to three homes in the last 18 months and never missed a beat. I think i've had to replace the batteries twice over that period. We use all methods to lock/unlock. NFC, Fingerprint, PIN, even physical key — all faultless. The kids (7yo and 9yo) love the fingerprint reader and can easily unlock the door themselves.

    • How easy/hard was the install? Got a box lying on my desk but I am just concerned I will have to muck around with the thingymajiggy that the deadbolt sits in (make that hole bigger to accommodate the U100)

      • +1

I didn't find it too tricky, the instructions (and video install guide) are easy to follow. First time I installed it probably took me 30 mins, each subsequent times was less than 15 mins. The installs at each home has just replaced an existing deadbolt, so no need to drill any extra holes, etc.

        Install video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrmL3l_ZczE

        • Could you help me out with the thickness (depth) of the outer panel please? The dimensions on their website doesn’t make much sense… supposedly the inner panel is 29mm thick but outer says 81.4mm! Would this be a typo?

        • Thanks for that. Did you have an extra door knob on the door? I have only got the typical single door knob with a key slot, which locks turning of the knob. The latch itself is a dead bolt. Since the main door is almost always locked, I think it shouldn't be a problem to replace the single door knob with a U100 - which is what I think you mentioned when you said you replaced existing deadbolts. But I thought I could ask someone whose done it - and can provide more insight.

    • I don't have a deadbolt how hard you reckon to install one?

      • If you need to drill new holes best to hire a locksmith… Unless you also want a new door then go nuts on it lol

  • +1

Can this be used as my primary door handle instead of a deadbolt? I don't have a deadbolt on my door (rely on a good security door) and just have a door handle for it. Would love to replace with a lock of this nature.

  • What's a good colour matching handle to pair with it?

  • How is this lock compared to the tp link

  • Thanks for the post. Needed some for the new place and the comments speak highly of these for the most part.

  • Click on one, two is binding, nothing on three.

  • Good lockers. I have two of these and have been using them for a year. Never had any issues. Battery lasts 6 months easily. Auto lock works perfectly.

  • Bought one from Officeworks when it had stock but haven't had a chance to install it yet.

Reading up on the battery requirements make sure you use 4 x AA batteries that can output 1.5V (sorry eneloop rechargeable). Something like XTAR is highly rated here but they are Li-ion so you'll most likely also need to buy corresponding battery charger.

    • Anything wrong with ordinary batteries? Should last 6-12 months with normal alkaline batteries

      • Nothing wrong with them, in fact I was even looking at amazon 100 pack of AA.

Just that a lot of ozbers have eneloop laying around and will try to use those but may end up flat within 2-3 months.

        • +1

Haha perfect, I have about 80 left to use.

  • anyone else found another way to get this lock for $199 now that bunnings removed it and officeworks is sold out? good price,
