  • Given that you can get externals in the $220-$250 range when on special, can't see why you'd want to pay $299.

    • +6

      Because

you can't rip out the hard drives out of externals without breaking the warranty.
can't stick it in a nas without doing above
Externals can't match the performance and functionality of said nas

    • Not to mention that external drives are usually WD greens which are not suitable for RAID setups

    • oh why do these manufacturers invariably deem the '4th' terabyte to be worth $150…. must be the newness value. (fifty-a TB FTW)

      • Because it's much better and faster due to being 4tb not 3tb…

      • But which substantive factor? D'you mean: (7200RPM) - (7200RPM)faster or…
        298@ -6TB- capacity Better¿ o: oranges/Apples/ RAID.

        • Not the RPM, that means little but larger disks are generally faster than smaller ones

I would say the reason for the excessive price is because instead of squeezing the data capacity they are adding an extra platter which adds to the price

  • That was fast. I just got the email

I got the same drive from bhphotovideo a couple of months ago for $228 delivered on their black fridays sales. Haven't had any problems with it yet and it works in my Buffalo Linkstation Pro Quad (LS-QVL) NAS.

I really wish I had bought more than one since one of my other hard drives have since died.

The chance of needing a return vs the substantial saving? Not a hard choice to me

Warranty is the same world wide. No difference buying here or overseas.

I bought 4 from the previous deal for about $830 odd delivered: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/85502

Installed them in my N40L - running like a dream.

        • Even better

        • i dont think the warranty covers flight, I used to paid $30-50 to post to singapore for all WD & seagate & hitachi drives if they are not AU warranty…

        • fuuu….$830 worth of hard drives…16TB? dayum thats nice

      • Yep, I also bought 3x of these when they were on sale.

I can confirm they have International Warranty.

        Great drives too =)

That's a different model. The one sold by Scorptec is 7200RPM, 64MB cache, whereas the B&H one is 5400RPM, 32MB cache.

The corresponding model is actually THIS one:

$us249 + shipping (about $40) so Scorptec is more than competitive for a local supplier!

      • All good then! Carry on.. :D
