ANZ Platinum Credit Card: $450 Cashback with $4500 Spend in 4 Months, $0 First Year Annual Fee (Then $87/Year) @ ANZ

610

Frequent Flyer offers are getting few and far between given the 18–24-month cooldown periods :(.

ANZ quietly released this one which gives a fairly healthy ROI better than the ANZ Low Rate, basically a blanket 10% back on everything purchased.
Even comes with insurance.
$87 AF after the first year.

No Cooldown period seems to be present in the T's & C's which is a good sign and shouldn't conflict with having a Rewards or Frequent Flyer card with them.

Offer is for new and approved applicants and is limited to one offer per applicant.
ANZ may vary or end this offer at any time without notice. Not available in conjunction with other offers, packages, or promotions, or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card. The time it takes to process, approve an application, and deliver or activate a card can vary and there may be delays.
Eligible applicants must meet the spend criteria within 4 months of the date of approval. The date of approval of an application is the disclosure date specified in your Letter of Offer. Eligible purchases include purchases made using your ANZ Credit Card Account but exclude specific purchases as set out in the ANZ Credit Card Conditions of Use (PDF). Excluded purchases include, for example, fees, cash advances, cash equivalent transactions, balances transfers, premiums paid for ANZ credit card insurance, transactions for gambling or gaming purposes or reversed or refunded transactions and will not qualify. The $450 will generally be credited to your ANZ Credit Card Account within 3 months of meeting the spend criteria. The $450 credit will be applied to the purchases balance and does not constitute a payment under your Credit Card Contract with ANZ. You will not be eligible for the $450 back if your ANZ Credit Card Account is cancelled, suspended, transferred, or you have breached the ANZ Credit Card Conditions of Use (PDF).

  • No points so just a straight 10% off?

    • Yes.
This is not a rewards card.

  • Limited to one offer per applicant. So make sure you haven't had this card before.

I used this offer when it was $300 credit with $1500 spend. Had an upcoming bill that was just over $1500 so effectively paid $1200 for the bill instead. Closed quickly after the credit came through, pretty sure it was after the statement cycle ended but YMMV.

    • Same here. I took advantage of the same deal as you last year.

    • Wait so just to be clear, do you know if the "limited to one offer per applicant" is tied to whether you've claimed this offer previously, or whether you've held this card previously?

      • Who knows, could be interpreted either way.

I remember applying for one of these promo's 2 years ago.

They asked for so much bs and supporting documents, a phone call, many emails back and forward (they would take days to respond) then ask for more information.

They asked for my full tax return, income statements, bank statements, tax agent info and god knows what else I've forgotten.

Yep ANZ is the worst to deal with. Pretty terrible app as well.

      • The app is horrendous.

Can someone explain the 18–24-month cooldown periods? Is that just not being able to get another ANZ card within 18months of cancellation?

        • +4

So you can only take out one from each category every 18-24 months dependent on t's & C's to be eligible for the bonus points.

          1 ANZ Rewards
          1 ANZ Frequent Flyer
          1 ANZ low rate
          1 ANZ Platinum.

So really you can be churning 4 cards from ANZ over the 18-24 months.

          • @Drakesy: Do you know if the "limited to one offer per applicant" condition is in reference to whether you've claimed this specific offer previously, whether you've held this card previously, or whether you're currently holding the card?

I've churned multiple ANZ Rewards cards but not this Platinum non rewards card previously, so just trying to work out if I'd qualify.

@Drakesy: Unfortunately ANZ Rewards and ANZ Frequent Flyer now share the same exclusion period so you are unable to do both within the same 24 month period. From T&C's

You are not eligible for this offer if you currently hold or have held an ANZ Frequent Flyer or ANZ Rewards credit card in the last 24 months.

            • @azrof: Ooof
Thats new, must've just changed this.

              • @Drakesy: Yeah it's a fairly recent change. Last I checked, NAB is the only bank left with separate exclusion periods between their Qantas/Bank rewards points credit cards sadly. I'm sure they'll update theirs soon.

Probably your first born child too.

(profanity) ANZ and their approval process. It's as if they don't want customers.

    • Funny i've had the opposite (mind you i've banked with them my entire life).

Literally every new application is prefilled and approved within 10 minutes. Just input my drivers license and its done.

Westpac on the other hand hates me and makes my life hell.

      • Funny indeed.
It seems that the frustration factor is linked to not being a current customer.
I can recall swearing off ever dealing with ANZ a few years back - in my opinion they were ruthless applying their additional card fees (even if they caused the situation).
We had done all our banking for decades with NAB and finally moved the last of our business away for a number of reasons.
Opened a new Westpac account to get a travel debit card (which NAB discontinued), met with a real consultant at a real branch (NAB is closing them all the time and reducing all face to face services).
The Westpac app is better than NAB, the application for a MC was done on app in less than 3 minutes, approved within 30 minutes, no need to provide loads of documents etc. Their high interest internet only accounts don't just have a honeymoon period where you get boosted interest for a few months, play the game right and you can ensure you get it every month.
I can't speak more highly of them.

  • Will short-term credit card ownership - specifically, getting a card and canceling it after a few months, negatively affect my credit rating/score?

    • +1

As long as its paid off it'll temporarily drop it then it'll recover in 3 months.

If anything it's good to build up a positive credit report.

      • Thanks for the information.

  • I'm confused by this line "or when transferring from an existing ANZ credit card". If I have an existing ANZ card (black), am I still eligible for this if I DON'T transfer?

    • +1

Yeh as long as you go through a new application and dont change/transfer your existing credit card product.

      • +1

Thanks, I called them as well and guy confirmed I was indeed "eligible" as rewards cards and considered a different "family" to this one. Just gonna wait a bit then let the wife apply as well for $900 cashback for $0 fees.

I asked ANZ support about the “new and approved applicants” condition.

“"New" applicants simply refers to customers applying through a new application, rather than those with an existing credit card who are requesting to change to a different credit card product.

For customers who have a credit card and change to a different one, they wouldn't be eligible for the offers available online.

Since you would be applying with a new application, you will be eligible for the cashback promo, provided that you're over 18 and are an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have more than 12 months left on your visa.

    I hope that helps!“

  • Easy peasy application. Applied Thursday, on Friday they called me to confirm me couple questions then told the application is approved.

Now just wait for the physical card. Hope ANZ getting onboard soon with most other banks that can use the digital card before receiving the physical one.

    • how long till you got the physical after?

  • Not sure if I was being dumb but I received the card and couldn't find a way to activate it. Had to call them up and ask them to make me a CRN. All sorted now.

    • That's the only way if you don't have an account with them. If you have any existing loan/debit/savings/credit account then just activate via app.

      • Ah good to know, bit of a weird process for new customers though.

  • Just activated today. No applepay support

    • I've got mine running on apple pay

      • tried again from ANZ app it worked. Thanks

    What a bunch of Fu$%tards…

Applied and was approved - provided the usual payslips, 100 points of identity, then got a phone call to say they are sending out a card and email to confirm I was approved.

After three week the card has not arrived. The acceptance email provided says " if the card doesn't arrive within days call us".

I have called the number three times, but they can't identify me as I am not a customer and my details have not been registered, in their system; as part of teh security questions I was asked to provide m previous address (from 25 years ago). Clearly an overseas call centre - and their response is "you must visit a branch so that we can identify you."

This morning I waited until 9am and called the Australian contact number and they are not permitted to identify me ??? They initially told me they would identify me via email, but then changed their story that as I am not a remote customer they can't verify me over email/phone. Back to visiting the branch to be identified but they can't tell me why my card was lost or can't be identified.

This system is broken. I can't even cancel the card with out visiting the branch, which means my credit score is affected as the card has been provisioned by ANZ, and also there is a risk is that if it has been delivered then someone else could activate and use that card maliciously… WTF.

    • Sounds like a horrendous experience… !!!

  • Probably spent the kind of time/effort getting to use this card like that of all other bank cards and credit cards I've had combined in my life so far. For mental health don't bother applying for ANZ CC unless you're an existing ANZ customer.

  • Looking forward to cancelling my ANZ Card at the end of next month

    Why
    - Bad company practices
    - Sub Par Rewards Points
    - They fired a bunch of staff for no reason
    - They are a bank

    • I mean, pretty much all banks are going the same way.

  • has anyone received $450 cashback?

    • did you apply for the card? if so what date did your application get approved and what did you did physically get the card?

      • +1

        14 Oct applied
        16 Oct approved
22 Oct received the physical card
