Anyone Attending Gitex Global 2025 in Dubai

Hi Fellow OzBargainers,

Just wondering if anyone of you going to attend Gitex in Dubai. There is some sick stuff around Quantum computing being presented there.

I am getting the training for first 3 days on Quantum and AI stuff. See you there.

Also pls suggest what could be bought from Dubai that makes sense. Will have around 500-1k for spending (not forced buying)

Cheers

      recycled from the porta parties?

  • Won't be there but just got back from Dubai and Fck its hot.

Bloody ridiculous, can't even walk outside.

TBH can't wait for quantum computing to break crypto.

    • If it can break crypto it will break a lot of other stuff too…
      Email.
      Cloud servers.
      Traditional banking.
      The internet.

Fortunately for both crypto and the rest of tech, clever folks have thought about and been working on that eventuality for quite some time and there are already quantum resistant blockchains and quantum resistant crytography algorithms.

      • The difference with banking and existing internet services they can be fixed with a software update. While I’m sure the major powers have storing petabytes of data to decrypt at a later date, it’s relatively straight forward to update live connections to new ones.

Updating a blockchain, however, is more difficult. It’s possible to make a quantum resistant once, but how do you update every cold wallet, every copy of the blockchain, every account?

    Stuffed dates and perfume/cologne

    • *overpriced perfume/cologne.

      • where are you buying overpriced perfume/cologne? I spent about $25-30AUD a bottle for Lattafa and they're sold here for $60-90

        • Sorry, Lattafa, Armaf were relatively well priced.

Anything designer was like 50% higher than Australia.

    • Good advice ty

  • They're keen on shisha there and airports are full of flavoured tobacco, but you can't bring in more than 25 grams without paying a huge amount of tax.

Dubai chocolate is very overhyped. It's incredibly sweet and green. That's it.

I went to Dubai for three days and didn't buy anything to bring home. I just purchased experiences. Go on the Dubai Sky Walk and hang off the edge of a building. Awesome fun. Visit the world's largest shopping mall and buy nothing. You'll have to ask someone how to get back to the metro. Try to find one of the two booze stores in Dubai. One is African+Eastern off the mall. It's a real treasure hunt to find it. Once inside you'll find a whole bunch of very happy foreigners. Then you realize you need a free license from the government to purchase anything, and you'll spend 20 minutes setting up an account on your phone.

    • Oh wow. Thanks for the heads up
