    very very very old news

    Dupe

  • An oldie but a goodie

    $89 annual fee! No thanks.

    • +2

It's a one off fee, which is $0 if you get it via this program.

      • Is it annual, or is it a one-off? I'm confused…

        • +1

          Sorry if I wasn't clear.

It's a one off fee, which is usually $82.50. If you get it in conjunction with the every day rewards card that one off fee is wavered, so it is free ($0).

Qantas additionally has 'Qantas Club' memberships which carry an annual fee and are largely unrelated to this card. Those offer you access to the lounge and a number of other things.

      Incorrect.
This is how I signed up before and I got a card.

    • +2

this is not the official QANTAS Frequent Flyers Membership !

Umm, what? QFF Bronze is QFF Bronze.

u wont get any Membership Card through Everyday Rewards

      Yes you do.

  • old

  • Don't worry.

  • +6

Ha ha ha, How is it not the official Qantas FF membership? Some people are idiots really.

  • btw who in their right mind would pay for a frequent flyer program??

    • -1

You don't fly international, do you. Pays it self back 10 fold every year.

      • -2

whats really good about it except lounge access and extra baggage allowance/general customer service?

        • -3

For our holiday this year I booked my wife and I first class a380 tickets to the USA and business class return from Japan. We have also used them to go to Japan when the flights for economy were over $3k per person. So besides the benefits you get if you fly a lot (like lounge access and baggage) there are over time benefits for saving you ff points.

        • +3

Think you're confusing the FF program with Qantas Club. Good luck trying to get into the Qantas Club or getting extra baggage allowance with your FF card.

        • +1

FF Gold and above gives you club access and extra luggage allowance amongst other things, (http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/program/privilegesGold#a…), but… it's fair to say that you've got to do a fair amoung of travel each year to attain/retain gold.

Silver on the other hand is easy to attain/retain, and does give you 1 lounge access per year and extra baggage allowance when travelling economy class.

But yes, you're right, just having a FF card without working up a tier or two is not going to get you anything but FF points.

Pays it self back 10 fold every year.

        what is 10 x Zero ???

    • A return to the US East Coast, or Euro will yield you around 20k points, which is about one and half domestic flight ~100-150 in Value.

  • old news, but still heaps of people do not know about this… i give positive vote, even i know it.

Being a positive vote that, this bargain can spread to those unknown to this deal…

  • Have known about this for ages, not everyone may know about this though.

  • +11

If you didn't already know about this you should hand back your Ozbargain membership, you're not worthy.

  • Welcome to 2008/09 OP.

  • This has been the case since Day 0 of the Everyday Rewards.

  • +1

Haha you mofos are unforgiving :D bring it on

  • There're few other tricks to save this joining membership as well:

    • If you have an optus account (if not, $2 sim might do, join the optus rewards program and create an ad-hoc Qantas FF account, no fee!)
    • Register for membership using overseas address, then change it to local one, not sure if there's any lost benefits or limitation!

But as an OB, this FF is pretty much useless, even when it's free when you have to pay for tax and fuel to redeem flight.

    • +2

when you have to pay for tax

you pay for that for non-FF flights too…

  • isnt this always the case ?

  • Exactly as lgacb08 said above, one can join anytime for free with an overseas address. Only us lucky Australians have to pay for this privilege. Everyone else in the world get it free.

The address doesn't matter anyway, as you don't really need the physical card to accumulate points.

    • And New Zealanders. Cost $50NZD when I signed up.

  • +2

I've found the Qantas FF program to be a waste of time. Even after numerous international flights over eight years, I have received nothing worthwhile.

    Virgin's program is better.

  • +3

Qantas FF is a rip-off! If you want free membership, just put in an international address when registering and you won't be charged any fees! It's the only frequent flyer program that I know of charging joining-fee!
