[ACT] All-You-Can-Eat Lunch Thu-Fri $19.80 Adult Dine-in (Booking Required, Min 2 People) @ Okami Japanese Restaurant, Braddon

200

Been going to this for the last couple of weeks and as a genuine all-you-can-eat buffet option it's pretty difficult to beat. Especially for Canberra CBD where prices are usually on the high end.

Normally $43.80 per adult at night (albeit for a much expanded menu), this $19.80 for an adult lunch special is very cheap.

The menu is much reduced and it's self serve rather than order from an server or app like the night deal.

I don't know if any of the other Okami Japanese restaurants have this deal running but I don't think the other ACT store (Mawson) does or any of the others in the quick search I did.

I wasn't sure on posting this deal as I am unsure how much longer they will be keeping this lunch special going.

A wastage charge of $15 applies to uneaten food over 200g, with an extra $5 charged for each additional 100g.

A 1.5% surcharge applies to credit card payments. Split payments are not allowed.

Address: Shop 137 & 138/24 Lonsdale St, Braddon ACT 2612

Pros:

  • All you can eat
  • Very good price
  • Staff are polite and helpful

Cons:

  • Really need to get in early (midday-ish) if you want the best, freshest food. Getting in too late you are left with less options.
  • Some staff don't speak great English which could be an issue but hasn't been yet

EDIT:
Moderators, as per the comments, this is available at multiple stores

VIC Melton

NSW Pennant Hills, Cronulla (Summer Only)

ACT Braddon

SA Glenunga

QLD Springwood, West End

Please feel free to edit the deal if you like.

With the regards to the minimum 2 booking. That isn't the case for the lunch buffet (see the link) and hasn't been applied to me when I've showed up

    All you can eat

Make sure you verify that means what you think it means.

I was literally going to write "yes it really is all-you-can-eat" and refer to the thread but couldn't find it easily 😂

  • In practice, anyone have experience as to whether this is genuinely AYCE or do they serve slowly limiting the amount you want to eat within the 2 hour window?

Been a few times (for dinner) and whilst you do order via your phone, I've not been disappointed with the delay or volume of food.

we went there(melbourne store) for dinner and there's a wastage charge for amounts over ~200gram ( i believe). i don't believe food came out slow and was quite good.

Been to the Hampton (Vic) store a few times and everyone has always left totally full and not wanting anything more. We find that if you stagger your orders there is always fresh food arriving and we have never had an issue with timing or them holding back food. It's definitely not fine dining, but personally I think it is better than food court quality as some others have said (however this may vary based on location). Re: the wastage charge, I have never seen this applied and I have left some food which we tried and wasn't to our liking without any comment. I think you should view this like a "fair play" policy. Don't order a stack of food you can't eat and you should not have to worry.

      • My experience with Hampton is similar. I always overeat, and it's good quality

In terms of the lunch special it's a buffet so you just serve yourself as long as there the dish isn't completely eaten and not refilled (which probably happens towards the end of the lunch window)

In terms of dinner, when I went to the Mawson store (not this one), everyone left completely full though there were some timing issues with food where you don't get a bunch of things for a while and then a bunch of dishes arrive at one including dishes you ordered a while ago and had forgotten about or given up on. Still it works out ok but potential for wastage.

However the deal is the lunch special, so the dinner stuff doesn't apply to this.

  • Pretty much food court quality stuff if you're into that. Not bad value for Canberra though.

Yeah but food courts sell some single boxes for this price lol

  • Tried it when I was on a work trip in Canberra, the food quality is pretty average, like some said it's just food court grade. Dishes take a bit of time to reorder and items like the fried karaage, tempura prawns and salmon sashimi taste just like they’re from Costco - prepared in the kitchen and served to you. To be fair, $19.80 is a good price for what it is. I would never go back again though. I'm surprised that they're still around.

    Just did a quick google.
These are the other places that offer that lunch buffet deal:

    VIC Melton

NSW Pennant Hills, Cronulla (Summer Only)

    ACT Braddon

    SA Glenunga

  • Does this look like a man who has had “all you can eat?”

    • +1

      steps on the scales
In my case, yes, yes it does 😂

  • Sydney branches are pretty bad, they are slow to serve the premium stuff and very quick with the edamame and fried stuff. not worth it. Even the "premium" stuff the sushi sashimi is sliced so thin it is transparent.

Bring this price to Traralgon or warragul and I'd go every week! Stopped going when they hit about the 40ish dollar mark

On the plus side around then I started stir frying my own steaks and noodles and have probably saved a good few hundred comparatively
