  • Is this one better or eBay better 24 packs at $70. Ignore the 10c difference between the two but is there a way to get these blades cheaper than say $2.50ea?

    Ew Gillette

    • I thought it was the best a man can get 🤣. Also I saw a few bin chickens today so I feel it was fate I saw your comment.

      • -2

It still is. What’s the alternative?

        • I like them but I do think its funny they pat themselves on the back with their marketing. Also I use Gillette safety razor not cartridge. Wish there were better options in Australia. I think safety razor is the answer if you want to go down that path.

          • +1

@HaydosK: Not many options tbh. After all the hype for dollar shave club I signed up for a month. What a scam.

            • +1

@Prodev3r: Safety razors are the best option if that works for your routine. Dollar shave club was bought out and became crap. Gillette Is probably one of the better cartridge razors as there really isn't much competition.

              • @HaydosK: After years of using Gillette cartridge and having constant breakouts I had to switch to Safety. Currently trialing straight razors, the shave is great but takes me 30 minutes and am cutting myself too often.

                • @Prodev3r: Hmm that's a shame. What do you currently use? I might be able to help as I was like that when I first started but I'm slowly getting better and trying new things to make it easier.

                  • @HaydosK: Knew 0 about them, found the Parker SRP on amazon and bought it as the reviews looked good enough

                    • @Prodev3r: Oh I misread. Parker is a good brand but I haven't tried a straight razor before. I think that's something for later on. Are you using the blade that it comes with or something else?

        • Beard.

  • +2

Switch to safety razors for a smoother shave and to save money. It's like comparing a laser printer to a ink jet printer when it comes to toner and ink.

    • +3

Not the same. It takes much longer and you have to be careful. These Gillette razors on the other hand not so much. I went back to these after trying safety razors. I know they’re super cheap but man I don’t have patience.

      • They do need patience. I'm not someone who notices the time it takes to do things (adhd time blindness) but when I tried to get someone I know to switch they switched back because of the extra time it takes. Safety razors are truly the better way to shave though. its all about time and convenience with cartridge razors.

      • It takes me about the same amount of time to shave using mach 3 as a safety razor. However I don't have super thick hair. What made me switch to single blade safety razors was the triple blade razors would constantly pull on the hair and cause discomfort.

        • Maybe you don’t prepare your skin.
Wash area with water then put some foam on.

          • @bhunter101: canned foam is convenient but sucks.

          • @bhunter101: I shave the same way as with cartridge razors. I don't have time for shaving rituals.

          • @bhunter101: 3 blade or more razors do cause irritation and ingrown hairs in some people. Just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for them. I know I have had problems with 3 different things I was using (Razor, shaving gel and razor blades) and had to figure out what the problem was before it wasn't painful or uncomfortable to shave.

  • Is Fusion 5 as good as ProGlide?
I had ProGlide. Was very happy with it.

    • +3

They are all basically the same thing, I don't notice any differences.

  • +2

Translated the Japanese reviews and there are claims these are dodgy - no idea if true

  • Oos?

  • I know it will vary depending on hair type and other factors but realistically what sort of daily shave average could you expect from each shave head?

Do the blades get clogged easily and if so are they easy to clean?

    • +2

I rinse and dry the blade meticulously . I have relatively soft hair and often shave after shower/bath, so hair is soaked. ProGlide blade lasts me 40+ shaves.
I find the blades have excellent open design for easy rinse under running water.

      • To expand on this I think the best thing you can do if you want to extend it for as long as possible is shave in another room than your shower. Not possible for everyone but the moisture can cause it to rust and dust to stick to the wet blades causing them to dull. Another few things would be getting a razor that doesn't have too many blades because the more blades the tighter the gap can be between them meaning more hair stuck in them and more blades to get hair stuck in. Gillette sells a skinguard blade that has a big gap and 2 blades. I have also heard using Sillica gel packs to remove moisture from the blade, using your palm of your hand and swiping the blade upwards to remove hair and oils from the blade and using an electric shaver before you use the razor so it doesn't have to cut as much hair.

  • +1

Are they real or knockoffs like the ones on ebay?

  • People still shave?

Havent shaved my face for over 10 years. All i do i clip my facial hair.

    • +2

Many occupations still require men to be clean shaven.

      • which occupations actually enforce this in Australia?

        • Defence for definite, pretty sure the Qld fire brigade has a policy on facial hair as well - that's just a few off the top of my head.

You can probably include most other occupations that require the use of gas masks, breathing apparatus etc in that list as well.

  • +1

This sensitive range still has S&S, which means you'll only pay $18.85 after the $5 bonus cashback. But it only has 2 blades as opposed to 5 for the regular one (which has no S&S anymore)

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Gillette-Skinguard-Manual-Razor-Bl…

    • 5 blades means nothing. Skinguard is one of the better cartridge razors as they actually are better for sensitive skin and even non sensitive as the blades have a gap which is a problem with the high blade count razors. They have too many in them because of marketing and not because they are actually better for shaving.
