Citi Prestige Card & Luxury Escapes Deal - Pitfalls?

https://www.finder.com.au/credit-cards/citi-credit-cards/cit…
annual fee $700

I was looking for discounts prior to making a booking on Luxury Escapes when i came across this citi prestige card
It offers a discounted Lux Plus membership as well as 15% off some bookings and one night free off other bookings at Luxury Escapes,
As well as 15 free airport lounge visits in 12 months
Additionallyif you apply by 23rd october you get
250,000 bonus reward points on eligible purchases of approval when you spend $10000 within 3 months of approval
(i haven’t been able to find what eligible purchase refers to yet in the t&cs and hope that the actual Luxury Escape spend would qualify?)

Google tells me 250,000 citi reward points can be converted into cashback using the "pay with points" feature at a rate of $10 back for every 2,500 points. This means 250,000 points are worth $1,000 in cashback (more if you purchase a gift card instead) ie: you are $300 ahead already after the annual fee.

All up for planning my Luxury Escape purchase this feels like an unbelievable deal, (as long as i cancel the card after 12 months to avoid a second annual fee - again still wading through t&cs to be sure you can cancel after 12 months.). I would also pay the full balance by the due date to avoid any interest - like other cards I assume this is possible?

HOWEVER I keep thinking of the old saying “If its seems too good to be true it probably is”……

I know there are some discussions on this card in OzBargin already but for my scenario:
Has anyone else used or looked into the citi prestige card and can advise of any pitfalls i may have missed?

LuxPlus can’t be stacked with the Citi coupon code (so you’ll get max 15% off on the limited time deals), but they make some very nice hotels very reasonably priced. Used it a few times on my FFFL Premier card.

Note that the airline transfer partners are being removed (except for Virgin Velocity) from late November.

Citi is being converted to MyCard in late November.

    • Have you actually gotten value out of LuxPlus? I've never found the prices compelling and or found them cheaper elsewhere.

Honestly, this site drives me mad sometimes.

Just posted rationale for not going citi prestige but amex platinum, threw in a optional referral link and bam.. deleted. wow.

It's automated, but you've been here for 7 years, you should know you can't spam referral links

      • sigh…

        whatever the site wants.

  • NAB are getting rid of the Citi brand over the next few months, and moving cardholders into their new MyCard scheme. At this stage it’s unclear which benefits will be retained with MyCard. See the ‎forum post for speculation about the changeover.

  • I haven't read this. I know in Australia, Citibank was bought by NAB. NAB is going to replace Citi cards in late Nov 2025.
I don't have a Citi points card. I don't know what is happening with Citi points.

So you might need to check for information on what is happening to Citi cards and Citi points.

I don't know if it complicates check in; some places ask you to show them the card you used to book, so you'd need to hang onto the original card.

It can complicate any refunds. eg if parts of your holiday get cancelled, they want to refund to the card you used originally.
Some companies have alternative processes (filling out declarations that it's okay to refund to another card or paying by cheque) but it can still be stressful.
It may also make insurance claims a little more complicated etc

  • Luxury escapes is overpriced by default. Look at the same hotel at Agoda etc and I bet it's cheaper than the discounted price.
