    I found keto diet cheaper.

For me personally, my issue was weight. Since dropping weight (123kg to 90kg -6'2) I no longer use mine.

Keto is pretty easy too. After about 6 months its a bit harder to lose weight, but almost at my ideal weight now anyways, a few more kg to go.

I used to wake up at my throat closed over all the time when I didn't use it.

Weighing in to hopefully help others not need these devices… And save money, even if this is a bargain, not needing one is more of a bargain.

No real exercise, still eating well (veggies etc) just cutting carbs and seed oils. Highly recommend trying it.

For many people, that would need this regardless, this message not for you :)

    • Just curious, do you know what your AHI was at it's highest?

      • yeah, i have it written down somewhere, but it was severe. im pretty sure it was over 1 per minute, so over 60, if your interested i can download from my unit as i had the apps and tools to do it.

edit, durrrrrr to me…. actually, that wont help, because while using the machine, you dont have the AHIs. but yeah, i remember my sleep study was over 1 per minute which is crazy.

a few weeks after getting the cpap i stopped being tired all the time, im tempted to get another study to ensure its better, Ive been doing heaps of late nights of late, so am a little more tired, but not walking round like a zombie when i was sleeping quite a bit.

    • I found keto to be a fad diet

      • 7 month in its working a treat for me, (with some intermittent fasting)
        results:
        sleep apnea gone
        pre diabetes gone.
insulin resistance markers gone in my last blood test.
(blood went down from a fasting 8-9 to 4.5 to 5.7 - i was measuring every day, but in the end i stopped as it was always under.) unless i eat a bit too many low carb snacks or a massive meal.
high blood pressure gone (its now basically perfect, whenever i check its like 121/80 to around 125-83 - was up at at least 140/100 from memory (could have even been higher, i wanna say 160, but that seems too high)- or close to, was on tablets for a while there, but stopped taking them and it went back up until i started keto.
        fatty liver gone.
all my bloods are pretty much ideal, except vitamin D and my cholesterol has gone up, because i'm using butter/ghee instead of extra virgin olive oil, and not enough exercise. i'll ask for an artery scan next time i go to the docs.
some blood stats were so good the doc though i was taking supplements.
cant remember what else was gone, but yeah, so much better now. But that's just my experience, I do see so many similar stories on fb…

but i guess thats what happens when you steadily loose weight, up to over 40kg dropped, and as i said, not really doing much.

Not like I'm selling anything either,

for anyone interested in trying, just say, next to your google device, hey google, (or siri)
how much grams of carbs per 100 does <food- eg carrot> contain, if less than 5 its usually not to bad - just dont eat too much, anything over that, proceed with caution.

meats are usually good as they are low carb, eat fats, as your body will burn them for fuel. watch your ketones, and stay in Ketosis.

its going to need to be a lifestyle change for me, but man the benefits are 100% there for me at least.

You understand that although weight can be a contributing factor (and rarely the only cause), there are plenty of overweight people who don't have OSA and plenty of people with OSA who aren't overweight? My doing, or not doing, keto would have precisely zero impact on whether I needed a CPAP, because my weight or BMI isn't a contributing factor.

      • Still, the single biggest correlation for sleep apnoea is BMI.

        • +1

BMI in itself is a bit of a scam

It doesn't account for muscle mass, you can be heavy and a gym bro and it will show your BMI is high

BMI shouldn't be used as the only measurement

      • +1

Here's an interesting article for you supporting the linkage of obesity to sleep apena, and weightloss as a treatment. The amount of people who need a CPAP machine and don't use it correctly or enough is a good reason to seek alternative treatment such as weightloss.

        https://noinsurancemedicalsupplies.com/blogs/blog/the-surpri…

        • There's often a link but not always. CPAP can be one of the things which assists in bringing down your BMI and it will provide benefit from day-one by allowing real sleep to occur.

One needs to throw everything at reducing BMI (obvs if BMI is a problem) and after analysis start using more of the interventions which provide results and reducing those which don't.

CPAP is ideally a temporary thing. But for some people it is not.

        • I didnt think it (weight loss) would help me, i was wrong.

Like i feel i wasnt a massive guy, because i was so tall, but guess i was with all the weight gone

      • yep, hence basically what i 100% qualified it with, and was basically my first sentence:

"For me personally, my issue was weight"

and i even summarized with "For many people, that would need this regardless, this message not for you :)"

so unsure why you would question my understanding, given ive stated specifically for me and not for everyone.. .just trying to help people!

i gotta ask, do people really not read it at all? or was it just unclear?

    • Its interesting you got so many neg votes

I've suffered from sleep apnoea and cured it without 72 hours eating Carnivore diet, similar to Keto

My diagnosis was a mystery as I was not overweight, I was fit (so I thought) I had no injuries that would cause an issue, non smoker and didn't drink either plus I was young aged 20 at the time and I just turned 50.

I also stopped 30+ years of weekly migraines and the associated medication

So before you neg @wisc perhaps give Keto or Carnivore a REAL go for a month and see what happens

What's the worst result, you drop some weight and feel good, best case you can toss your CPAP machine

      • +3

The irony of someone giving me neg vote for fixing my own issues that has ZERO effect on them, you brave brave keyboard warrior 😂😂😂

        • +1

Probably because you solved your medical problems yourself and not with drugs or paraphernalia prescribed by an authorised medical 'professional'. Your independent behaviour is deemed dangerous by certain people.

      • Yeah, I find here, (ozb) if you say anything slightly against the mainstream view, you'll get so many people hit and run without providing you with details of why or having healthy debate, like I respect @ccsamwag as he has taken the time to respond (even if it can be seen as slightly aggressive).

and while its nice to feel people agreeing with you, and the upvotes, I'm not going to let that stop me from saying what i want to say, if i could potentially help someone.

    CPAP Machine?shitty deal

  • Isn't it better to get it at a local store like cpap Victoria

    • +1

Like anything you purchase, it depends on how much in-person support you need. A shopfront is only going to give so much support before they send you to your sleep doctor.

    • You can price match/beat with some of the brick stores. Even ResMed themselves price match with authorised vendors.

      • Yeah cpap victoria doesn't price match.
My health insurance covers most of the cost eaither way

  • Pls list difference between this & 10 Auto set, apart from $200+. Needing to get my dad a machine, I have 10 & had no issues so was thinking that would do him. Any chance of applying code on the 10?

    • +3

The code will work for 5% off the AS10 model as well. As for differences, to be honest I prefer the AS10 over the AS11, it's a tad quieter than the AS11, just doesn't look as pretty and doesn't have a touchscreen.

Spare parts wise, Resmed have just stopped S9 model parts (hoses, tubs etc), so if that's any indication, there will be parts for the AS10 for years to come still.

      • Great, appreciate honesty. Had heard that about noise. Awesome code will work, thanks.

  • +1

I have this, and software updates have improved it, but I'd still say the Lowenstein Prisma 20A (I think) is a far superior device. I used it in my trial but heard good things about ResMed and it was cheaper, but I regret it.

AHI of 38 during my diagnosis (that's 38 breathing issues per hour or more than one every two minutes). As a healthy and highly active 32 year old, it was quite the surprise

    • Interesting, I've been thinking of investing in a CPAP machine. Just curious why a healthy person like you would use it, and is it cumbersome?

      • +1

I’m in the same boat as OP with AHI 50+. It’s not cumbersome once you find the right mask for yourself.
For me it’s partly because of minor weight gain and prolonged sinus issues and just general physics of my body’s breathing system.

      • +1

Well, healthy apart from the apnoea. I think it's due to my airway/jaw morphology. I went for diagnosis because my partner at the time noticed I kept stopping breathing, it wasn't anything I noticed

It took a while to find the right mask, but it's not so much a bother anymore.

  • Be aware this has an integrated modem, so all your data is being sent to the cloud/resmed.

    • +1

You can put the machine on Airplane mode but you just need to click message button to acknowledge that everytime you need to use the menu screen - which is not very often once you dial it in properly.

  • I just bought one to US address from CPAP Ninja 625usd plus shipping from US minus 5$ with newsletter, need script
Don’t know if they deliver to Australia

  • +5

I've got one of these, do i like using it hell bloody NO.
Do i feel better during the day when i do use it at night yes.

Am I overweight with excess body fat - No
I'm more likely borderline underweight for my height, reasonably active, run a lot, eat healthy, don't drink and have never smoked.

But the long-term effects of undiagnosed OSA is a lot worse than trying to improve your sleep by trying a cpap.
I was always tired no matter if i got 5hrs or 10hrs sleep it wouldn't make a difference, difficulty concentrating and remembering stuff.
Sit down for any length of time during the day I would fall asleep, which could be classed as a benefit in a boring meeting!
Couldn't even enjoy a movie at the cinemas with my kids as I would fall asleep.
Had one major extended episode during the night, totally freaked out my wife as in her words i was not breathing and non-responsive
until with enough pushing I woke up with a loud gasp, gasping for air.
Then you've also got the risks of micro naps or even totally falling asleep while driving which then puts other people at risk.

So, my Doc referred me for a full blown in hospital polysomnographic sleep study done, AHI was high 30's.
After a period of time seeing various other people, who came to the conclusion my biggest issue is larger than usual tonsils and tongue combined
    with a narrow airway.
Then come sleep time when i finally fall asleep the muscles in my throat area relax, being unable to hold everything in place it all collapses and
    blocks my airways.

No fad dieting will help my situation, ENT said surgery could be a possibility but at my age it also comes with risks and the chance it may not improve
my sleep and if cpap is helping to keep using it. So cpap is the lesser of two evils.

Though more of a coincidence but a friend (40yr old) just had tonsil and adenoid surgery and said it was the worst pain ever, made worse by being woke up a few nights after surgery chocking on their own blood as the wound opened up during their sleep.

Also, CPAP doesn't work for everyone.

    • +1

In the UK they are required to first check the tonsils. In Australia, most people diagnosed with OSA never have such an examination.

Thank you for sharing your experience. All the best!

      • +1

I'm originally from around that part of the world a long time ago.
As a primary school age kid i used to get regular bouts of tonsilitis but they didn't remove them.
Now as an adult I wish they had taken them out!

is this really a deal… Mr Associate?? Many websites have these machines at this cost or much lower than this….

    • +1

@HasToBeADeal Can you please share websites that have the Airsense 11 AutoSet (with a Mask included) for 'much lower' than $1,413.60? I'm genuinely nterested in buying and haven't found much better deals online.

    • @HasToBeADeal Yes, do please share who else is especially 'much lower". I'd be very interested to see.

  • I use the Philips Dreamstation but with the resmed full face mask.
Does anyone have experience with both machines that could break down the pros and cons for me?

    Cheers

    • +1

@adb1984 AIrSense 11 is just newer. The DreamStation and AIrSense 10 were the two going head-to-head until the foamgate recall. DreamStation being a little bit noisier than the AirSense10, however the AirSense 11 is a little noisier than the AirSense 10. Algorithm wise, both are pretty similar at being more on the relaxed side than machines like the Löwenstein 20a and Fisher & Paykel SleepStyle+ that respond a quicker.

If you have a DreamStation that's Rev 15 or higher (sticker on bottom) and not having an issue, I'd just stick to that until you need a new one. Though if it seems inadequate in any way, I'd suggest getting another sleep test done.

      • Yeah cheers, I appreciate the insight. It was replaced during the foamgate issue. I guess the only reason I would look to upgrade would be for a super quiet one

        • @adb1984 I'm actually going through and recording every machine's SPL and power usage (with and without humidification) at present. Got to say, don't believe what they put on paper.

Quietest I've tested so far is the SleepStyle+. Even with what some consider the holy grail, the Löwenstein 20a has a very annoying noise of the motor going up & down as you breathe. The Philips has at least a constant noise, making it easier to sleep to.

          • @xyzed: Id be interested to see. Its not for me, I sleep fine. Its for my wife lol
