Except for that one time she murdered Tuvix.

Joined spaceship in 2020, haven't looked back :D

    • Are you positive?

      • +2

Yep! at one stage it was down alot, but I kept putting money in :)

      • I was down like 20% during covid. Now I'm at around +50%. Should have put in more during that time.

        • I put in a large lump sum a couple of years ago when Universe was $1.50; today it's over $3 and I've more than doubled my money. Pretty happy.
Not sure I'd invest now considering how high it is and how the world economy and especially the US is tapdancing on the brink of the next financial crash. That's probably why they are running a promotion like this to encourage investment.

      @Gomo

Can you put the rest of the T&C's up for this (as I'd assume there must be quite a few)? One doesn't seem to be able to see these without installing the app & or signing up first.

Could be decent but need clarity on what thei conditions are.

To be fair it looks ok at first glance…..decent alternative to the Webull 2% one, but Spaceship as a bad rep for getting in trouble with ASIC and has no CHESS sponsorship, which isn't a deal breaker but isnt ideal.

Decent way to get a $10,000 payoff if the rest of their offering suits your needs.

More than 4 years with spaceship. Balance up 0.7% in that time.

    • It's really only worth it for the referrals imo. Made about $120 in referrals and minor % growth on initial investment.

    • Weird, I have had Universe since Sept 2021 (so 4 years 1 month), have been DCAing a small amount every month and the app says my return is around 50% (admittedly about 38% is this year).

      • +4

Funny if it calculated that based on the money you've added and not the value gained.

    • +1

      Yikes that's dreadful

      • +2

They've closed and changed their name at least once too and probably recycled a few managers. They think they can beat the market leaders but they simply can't, and at least you get a dividend with other managed investment funds. Pretty awful returns even if/when positive…

    • That is insane for how crazy the market has increased in the past 4 years. They really have to be so incompetent to have basically lost money (when accounting for inflation)..

    • +2

I am about 42% up across all 3 of mine (Universe, Origin and Earth). Difference being I contribute regularly so have bought through the bad times and not just a one off. Performance has been great for me.

    • Not sure I believe this considering the previous all-time peak of Universe prior to being over $3 now was about $2.40 which was 4 years ago (The other funds follow this profile too). Even if you invested everything at the worst highest price possible, you'd be at plus 25% right now. Unless you kept buying and selling over the last 4 years, which is not what you should be doing for funds like this and becomes your fault then; they are for long-term investments.

      • Not sure I need you to believe me. Remember they have charged me around 50 monthly admin fees.
But for those that want proof, see below.
It does appear that I bought at the top. Also, given the rapid decline in value 4 years ago I stop contributing anything since.

Why not just invest the money in a good ETF instead?

    • Then there won't be good sob stories about how bad investments went south.

  • +4

Not sure about now, but my portfolio was in the red territory for most of the time with their bad investment decisions when the market was going up. Took my money out after more than 2-3 years with them.

    • +3

Same was red for years and I took it all out as soon as it hit 0% break even

Originally signed up as promised zero fees for portfolios under 5k but then they introduced fees which really just rubbed salt in the wound

      • +1

        You finally cashed out!

Im still in. 800 bucks up so far. It's my fun money, so happy to just leave it and see where it goes.

Mknd you, thats still like…6.5% return ish. Nothing massive but it's something lol.

    • +2

You didn't follow the recommended investment timeframe in their PDS, what did you expect?

  • +1

Can I withdraw all my money (100k right now) from spaceship universe. Then put it back in 1st Nov to take advantage of the 3%? The terms and conditions only count withdrawals from 1st Nov onwards.

    • +1

      The terms and conditions:

Your bonus is calculated on your net investments (that's your total eligible deposits minus any withdrawals or redemptions) made from your opt-in date (or 1 November 2025 if you opted in earlier) to 30 November 2025. This bonus gives you a 3% return on your net investments regardless of what markets do.

      • Your principal is at risk though

    • I’m going to do this!

    • +3

When you say withdraw, you mean sell all of your units? If so, this is very likely going to be a CGT event.

  • Goes without saying but if you are down on their investment already, don't continue to add money to their fund. It doesn't perform very well.

    • +1

      It doesn't perform very well.

Not sure which of their funds you are referring to, but Universe shows 16%pa since inception in 2018 which seems pretty decent.

      • +1

Carried hard by tech which we all know is a house of cards. Large parts of their portfolio also consist of really poor decisions which they refuse to divest from. And for every one making money there by entering at the right time, another got burned hard by these poor allocations.

  • Are these all managed funds? Even the 'rules based' one?

  • +1

If you want to know how shit this product is, you could have invested in something ultra safe like Coles and outperform this and get dividends for cashflow.

    • -1

Thats the thing though, you have to choose.

Some people couldve chosen beyond meat to join social media.

It doesnt even haave to be that stock, it can be any and theres a risk of it going down (or up).

However there is an argument about just going with a classic etf.

  • +2

    Lost almost 50% in 2022

    • Unless you meant you sold, it wasn’t really a loss? But yes it was down for ages

      • yeah, it was quite good at the time every stock went up, but until I need money.

  • +1

I joined in around 2021. Partly because i already have investments in other areas, but thought id try spaceship.

They did say you should hold it for at least 7 years to ride any tough moments. So i thought id give it a go.

There definitely were some down moments as i think 2021 was a peak period. The value i put in dropped to around 50-60% which is pretty wild. However things have picked up and i am up around 800 as of yesterday (about 6.5% gain since ~4 years ago). I'll wait and see how it goes in 3 years and maybe give an update post then if i'm still around.

As you can see i didn't upvote or neg, i am just putting my experience here for others' use.

If this is your first time investing, I'd probably say go down the ETF route first.

  • I have been with them since the end of 2023, and added a bit of money every week, and some additional one-off. My return for now is 23%. I think it's a pretty good return.

  • I had an amount that i sold at a loss around covid, so was at -400 return when i started adding money back 2 years ago.

Currently $6000 balance, $1000 return, been adding spare change every week.
Initially 25 a week, then a bit less. Now $70.

    I'm fine with ~20% return

  • What does “Units paid quarterly over next year” mean?

    • +1

Made in four payments next year:

The first in March 2026, followed by June, September, and December.
