Dewalt TSTAK Deep Toolbox DWST1-71195 $29 + Delivery ($0 C&C / in-Store/ $99 Order) @ Tool Kit Depot

710

Sold out online. Still available in-store.

Low price on this DeWalt TSTAK deep toolbox for those looking to pick one up cheap or want to expand upon the $137 3-in-1 TSTAK stackable storage deal that's very popular currently. TKD have decided to price match Sydney Tools on the same kit too. Making either a good deal if you have a TKD nearby for click and collect, as shipping can be pricey.

As pointed out by AngryAlfred, your local Bunnings store may have stock with the item number 0889284 and it's not currently viewable online or via the stock checker. Sydney Tools briefly sold it for $26 and have since returned the price to $44.50.

The reason for clearance is that it's been superseded by the TSTAK II deep toolbox with an IP54 waterproof rating and better latches.

Tool Kit Depot was previously known as Adelaide Tools and now owned by Bunnings. You can't price match with TKD at Bunnings.

    Made in Israel.

    • +4

The Israelis were a major irrigation gear producer mainly black poly stuff for orchards, probably of necessity due to arid climate so I guess they've used that expertise in plastic molding to pivot into storage products. You wonder how they can be competitive against China etc though?

    • +6

      For that reason, I’m out.

        Barbara ?

      • +1

For that reason, I bought 5 of them. Which are 5 more than I will ever need.

        • Can you send them to my place then?

    • +1

I had this dilemma with Suntuf polycarbonate sheeting, which is owned by Palram and also made in Israel. Went digging through reports to come to the conclusion that the company actually stacks up from an ESG perspective. I was pretty happy to go the broad brush initially but a bit of DYOR can be worth it. Still haven't come around to purchasing but when I do it will be with an informed and satisfied conscience.

    • +1

Thanks for telling mate. I almost bought it

    • +5

Fortunately not every company in Israel is government owned, and these were manufactured prior to the conflict so it really makes no difference if you buy or not. DeWalt isn't Israeli.

      • +6

        Don't tell them about China.

        • -2

Or Australia supposedly sending F-35 parts and other defence exports to Israel through the multi-national supply chain for the programme. I feel that's worse than some toolbox plastic being manufactured in Israel. One is used for killing and the other for storing tools.

@Clear: What’s thoughts on OZ gov supporting Ukraine? Personally I would say, oz shouldn’t support any country on their wars. Oz should stay neutral

            • +1

@Harry33: So made in China is ok? Because of the Uyghur genocide many boycott Chinese security cameras. Similarly boycotting Australian made because as you say we're supporting war in Ukraine?

I mean Australia doesn't exactly have a good track record. Why did we even invade Iraq? Because daddy US told us to? We do that a lot. And shouldn't Ben Roberts-Smith be in prison?

I'm all ears on how these toolboxes support the annihilation of innocent people in Palestine.

              • +2

@Clear: Apartheid, North Korean blockade, Russian oligarch and oil trade embargo, etc. is always designed to put pressure on business so they in turn put pressure on that government to change policy.

It usually works to some degree, unless that country is the biggest recipient of US foreign aid, ever.

It's not dissimilar to protesting against Australian Government policy, knowing that it makes very little difference in itself, but when combined with similar action in other countries, it puts pressure on the USA, UN and other supporting countries of Israel to stop their actions.

                • +1

@Big L: Yup agreed. Of course not buying this won't put any pressure on anyone other than TKD who have paid for stock sitting there.

                  • @Clear: The theory is that you shouldn't buy anyway, not even second hand items but it becomes hard work not to buy things from companies, industries or countries that are arseholes.

                    • +2

Whats the fad of the day, germany, china, usa, israel whats next

  • +1

Great price. I have a set and need more. Any Australian made equivalents?

    • I don't think you'll find any Australian made modular toolboxes.

      • -1

they dont want us to make anything tbh

        • -1

          Our wages are too high.

          • +3

@Clear: Not really. One of the main issues was distribution and total market size/local market size.

With plastic moulding, most of the raw materials came from China anyway.

The moulds would be in excess of $50k each, at a minimum.

Then it is question of who you can sell it to, and when you go to export, not only do you compete against China in the plastics market, but also Italy and Israel. When selling into America, you also have to compete against the highly protected US market from the lobbyists. The US factories over there end up having significantly less cost distribution wise over there per product even though the wages are about the same as here. They can also serve a 40x market size with ease.

          • @Clear: For robots?

      • Going from memory alone as it's not on the website. This ToolPro system is made in Australia…

        https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/toolpro-toolpro-modular-…

  • You can insert a backing rod for water proofing.

  • How can you expand upon the 137 kit… just stack on top?

    • +1

Yep, you can staack them in any order. But at some point it just becomes too heavy anyway, so you can at max put 2 ontop of the other kit.

      • I have a stack of 8 going at the moment, though many are the shorter drawers.

        • 8 stacked? how do you know whats in what

          • @stopthecap: Excel spreadsheet

            • @m9: so right now i ordered 1 set of 3 on wheels foe `37 and 4 extra boxes.
Is it better to order another set of 3 and have 5 boxes on each or just stick with one set of 3 and 4 boxes and keep them stacked seperately. This is just for home tool storage

          • +1

@stopthecap: I've just stuck small labels on the front. The drawers have a clear insert on the front that says TSTAK and people swap them out for 3D printed signs. Maybe I'll do that.

I'd like to do this sliding bracket setup one day.

            • @Clear: the biggest annoyance is you have to remove everything to get to the lower ones. Ideally like the milwaukee you can get ones that have a pull out drawer, but wouldn't work for this grade as the plastic is flimsy compared to full heavy duty milwaukee and hikoki

  • Legend OP, Looking for something like this and bought the stack and a deep tub. Not wrong about shipping.. $90?!?! yeah C&C FTW :)

    • +1

It's free shipping with a minimum spend of $99. It looks to be $15 delivery for me with this.

      • Its weird because i bought $166 and it was plus $90 shipping. Im in W.A. Annoying but a shop about 20mins away secured with C&C happy days :)

        • +1

A mod added the $90 so maybe that's true. At least you have a store nearby because I don't.

  • Trying to save money, I ended upo buying a 137 kit and 4 more of these things. Am i set? Or should i add in another 137 set

    • +2

You would be better off buying drawers. Otherwise, you have to remove the boxes to get into each one.

      • link?

        • Google DeWalt Tstak drawers.

  • Thanks OP. Funnily it didn't let me buy 2.

    • +1

I got 4 for 116 with free delivery

      • Damn just went out of stock, you got the last few lol

        • Ah that explains it. I thought maybe it was limited per customer.

  • -1

But never heard of Tool Kit Depot. Google Map struggles to locate the store. Have to buy 4 to get free shipping.

    And OOS.

    • +3

Good thing I linked the store finder and explained who TKD are in my deal 😉

      • Judging by their old name they are located in Adelaide. Making sense.

        • It's Bunnings way of being able to sell Milwaukee and other brands that have told them no.

  • +7

For those that missed out. Total Tools are doing the same price
