  • Forgive my ignorance, been a while since I signed up in Aus, but if one was to activate this sim plan, they could use it alongside those Telstra locked phones yeah, no need for a locked in contract? Looking at buying that lastest Pixel 9 outright like this posting here

    • You can use the Telstra locked devices as long as it's a Telstra/Boost SIM, the pixel 9 outright is not network locked to Telstra though.

      • Awesome ty for that, never knew Boost would work too. So is the pixel 7 here also unlocked? I was reading in the comments there was an unlock fee and thought the same applied to the 9. Thanks!

  • What does zip mean?

    • +2

"Zip" can mean to fasten something with a zipper, to move or act with speed and energy, or to compress a computer file. It can also refer to the ZIP code for mail, a sudden hissing sound, or informally, a lack of energy or "vim".
      As a verb
To fasten: To close or open something with a zipper (e.g., "zip up your jacket").
To move quickly: To move with speed and energy (e.g., "He zipped through the town").
To compress files: To compress a computer file to make it smaller, which saves storage space and makes it faster to send.
      As a noun
A sudden sound: A sharp, hissing sound, like a bullet whizzing past.
Energy or vigor: Informal term for liveliness or enthusiasm (e.g., "She has a lot of zip").
ZIP code: A system of postal codes used by the United States Postal Service (USPS).
Zero: Informally, it can mean "nothing," as in "He won the game 7-zip".

On a serious note, it's referring to Zip Pay:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/help/buying/paying-items/paying-zip?…

  • Wouldn't it be cheaper for the same service with Boost?

    • service not quite the same, get visual voicemail and ?better reception on telstra
but boost just fine to save a few $$

      • Hmm, last i checked the coverage was identical even for 5G (ie identical network map). But that was a year ago when I recharged my Boost. Maybe the difference is how they manage the service and throttle your speeds.

        • +2

Network charts look the same. But that just shows coverage.

What isn't shown on those charts is 'service' priority. This matters usually when you are in areas which have massive congestion (e.g. marathons / public events)

From people working in the inside the priority is usually
Telstra Business -> Telstra Personal Postpaid -> Telstra Prepaid -> Boost/MVNO (e.g. Aldi)

          • +1

@lplau: Can confirm, pre-paid has lower network priority than post-paid. Never knew that business had higher priority than post-paid though.

    • If you don't mind Optus, there is also the long running OnePass plan - 280GB Data for $168/365 Days

Only problem is I might need to call 000 at sometime, like Life & Death and may not be able to get through. :-(
