PC Upgrade - Feedback Appreciated

I'm thinking it's perhaps time I look at upgrading my current PC. It's done me well and continues to do so, but thinking it might be time to get something more modern.

Current specs:
i5-4460
Asrock H97-M Pro4
32GB RAM
RTX3060 12GB
Silverstone ST65F-GS PSU (650W)
Antec C8 case

This is what I am currently looking at:

I would be re-using the PSU and case of current PC and transferring majority of storage drives over to the new machine.
Ideal budget is perhaps around $1700-$1800, but realise I may need to stretch that a bit so absolute max would be $2000.

AliExpress seems to be getting more popular with purchasing CPUs, but am not sure if there's particular stores I should be looking at or it's better to just purchase locally. Though I can see the 7600x, but not much luck on the 7600.

For RAM, I have read that 6000 CL30 is the sweet spot for the 7600.
I was originally going to get 32GB RAM (2x 16GB) and then perhaps down the track get another 32GB, but have read it's best to only use 2 sticks – hence 64GB. If going to 4 sticks down the track is viable, then I would most likely do that to save some money on initial build.

I seldom game, but do play around with AI image and video generation and while the current rig can somewhat handle it, it's also bottlenecked – not just by RAM.

Another plan was to get a RTX 3090 24GB, but while the extra VRAM would be good, getting something new with warranty is perhaps the better choice?

Why 7600 and not 7500f basically the same but cheaper, and 64G of ram is way too much. The ram are price like gold rn, just get a cheaper ddr5 16x2 6000mhz cl30-34 will be good enough unless u absolutely need 64g of ram. Better to save up the ram and buy a better GPU, however 506016g does perform better in AI than 5070 but u can still go save the money for future upgrades

Currently when I'm generating, I'm using more than the 32GB so it's also swapping to disk.
Yeah, I've been reading on the RAM prices going through the roof and am wondering if I'm better to hold off and hope it drops again…

I really don't want to go spending thousands on a GPU, so the 5060 ti 16GB seemed like a good compromise.

Will if u know what ur doing thats alright, But I do have to say the price for RAM is way too much better to find something on second hand market place. U can alway go grab a prebuild pc and change the ram urself, because the price for pc parts these days are just crazy.

Yeah, RAM and SSD storage has really gotten out of hand. Maybe I just ride it out for a while and hope prices come back down again.

I've looked around at pre-builds and prices are similar to individual components. Granted, I would get a case and one or two other bits, but they are not needed. So I don't really see the point getting bits I don't need.

Prices on marketplace are getting a bit crazy as well. Though guess I could look at older listings that don't seem to have sold and see what price they are willing to take…

      • However definitely consider to change ur cpu to 7500f or something else, 7600 seems a weird choice.

Why is the 7600 a weird choice?
In terms of local stores that have stock of CPUs, it's 7600 or 7600X, no 7500F

          • @whatisk: Because the 7500f is basically the same as 7600, which should be cheaper and better in value. But if u are buying form local store, then go for the one have stock.

            • @twdjlzl: Ah okay. I had a bit of a search and didn't have much luck finding it in stock anywhere. Did find some on eBay etc though…

Could always get from AliExpress I suppose, but not sure on buying from there though I know many do.

Need Nvidia GPU for AI unfortunately

the ram was roughly half the price a few weeks ago, so its the worst time to buy that stuff
also i think $110 more for X870 which has USB 4 is better value

Yeah, RAM (and SSD) prices have really gone crazy lately. As above, perhaps I might be better off waiting and hoping prices drop again…
Honestly, the only thing my USB ports get used for is my keyboard, mouse and occasionally plugging the phone in. I don't see that really changing seeing as it's been like that since getting my current PC.

  • How old is the PSU? Not usually recommended reusing old power supplies if rebuilding a whole pc…

    • I think around 1.5 to 2 years. So yeah, may need to consider a new PSU as well…

      • Wut, 2 years is absolutely nothing for a PSU. Why would a PSU only be good for 1.5 to 2 years?

The only thing you should be worried about is whether it'll supply enough power or not for your components. 650w will be perfectly fine for a 506Ti and 7600.

PSUs last much, much longer than just 2 years… I have multiple decade-old PSUs still going.

          Cheers.

Yeah, as far as I can tell, 650W should be okay for the GPU and CPU combo I'm looking at.

  • it'd be wiser to build a complete new PC. The components that you're re-using (psu+case) are only worth ~$400 maybe, and it'd be much nicer to do a completely new fresh build.
that way your older pc keeps operating while you're doing the build, and you can re-use it for something like a home-NAS or media server or you can sell it as a complete working unit rather than trying to sell each component (ram, cpu, etc) individually.

your older PSU might not even be up to scratch for the newer components
