  • Seems like the cheapest by a fair bit, anything cheaper you're getting the generic brands.

Seems like a good deal to me.

it was the same price a couple of weeks ago

    • why am i being negged for this?

      • +3

Because you're linking to a deal titled with "Telstra starter pack" and people aren't reading the entire deal to see the link to the TV down the bottom.

  • good deal… really no need 3D unless you have spare $$$ (i have 3d but little bit regret bought it)

    • You should have got a LG passive 3D 200Mhz set! :) better 3D.. passive $1 dollar cinema glasses work great no eye strain.

  • sounds quite decent , thumbs up ey

  • Does it do ABC iView, and DLNA client like other Sony? Easy to use, or 27 button presses needed?
How good is the upscaling of low/moderate quality SD free-to-air? (making HD look good is easy.)

I have the Sony KDL-40EX700, and the specs seam simular, internet ready means you will need a direct ethernet conection or you will need a sony wireless dongle. You will get iview, SBS, channel 10 and 7 catchup, plus a heap of music channels plus my favorite Billabong TV. Yes it is DLNA complient

You could also consider the equivalent 55" Samsung UA55EH6000MXXY, which is $996 at JB, pretty comparable quality wise, and more capable on the codec front (if you care about that sort of thing). Only 2 HDMI ports to Sony's 4 though.

    • i was tossing up between this and the samsung when good guys had it for $996 (funnily dick smith said they couldnt price match as it was under their cost). The samsung also does not have VGA and apparently you cant turn of overscan so plugging in a laptop would be difficult.
We ended up getting the EX750 for $1470 from the Sony store as my housemate was prepared to pay the difference to get 200hz.

Good deal, I reckon, thanks OP. As an aside, IMHO the whole 'smart tv' thing is a nice2have but not a critical feature. Worth less than $100, frankly - the cost of a WDTV or AppleTV or something running xbmc….

Just got it from them, paid cash for $970

      • +2

lucky you didn't get mugged on the way in carrying the dosh (or the way out carrying the tv)

        • When you pay cash at good guys, it doesn't have to be real physical cash it can be through eftpos as well, because that's instant too I believe, it's the credit card that's annoying for them I think since they have to wait.

Also picked up the TV from their loading dock.

Don't know if it applies to the automotive clubs in the other states/territories, but perhaps you could show the RACQ (QLD) membership card and get 12% off, making it $876.48?

  • Love the Motionflow XR200 implying 200Hz! Go the marketing team! A good deal nonetheless.

KDL55EX630 here is the full model code. Wanted to look up reviews searching sony ex63 was not enough.

  • i want a tv that beams the tv program onto my nexus tablet.
i also want to beam my nexus tablet content onto the tv.

    does this one cut it?

    • +1

i want a tv that beams the tv program onto my nexus tablet.

You want a HTPC, not a TV.

i also want to beam my nexus tablet content onto the tv.

I expect that will work with an Android DLNA server.

  • Sony's specs say this model has a 90 degree (horizontal) viewing angle. Where all their more expensive models have 178 degrees viewing angle. That's really the main difference I can see between this model and the next one up.

    • +1

      http://www.sony.com.au/product/kdl-55ex630

      Spec says:

      Viewing Angle (89/89) (Right/Left), (89/89)(Up/Down)

      • 178° and 89/89 mean the same thing.

        • read what eDust says

    • +1

call me naive but what's up with the viewing angle discussions. dont people sit in front of the tv anymore?

      • I watch TV from many angles, from the couch in front, from the kitchen to one side, and I also spin around in my computer chair to see it from the other side - this all seems pretty normal to me.

      • I think it's more to do with pointing out that the quality of the picture does not change too drastically when viewed from a variety of angles - unlike the old lcds which changed the colour of the picture when you moved just several degrees off centre.
That is a great price for a Sony. I am actually a fan of frame interpolation, and I had a chance to view a sony with their motionflow when on holiday and I thought it was awesome. Would love to buy this if I had the money.

      • Its for colour consistency, try looking at an old LCD tv or Laptop without wide viewing angles the top of the screen will look different to the bottom even if you're sitting directly in front, and colour will shift with the slightest angle change

  • will this work with xperia z?

  • +1

It has been this price before/ but for those of you inclined to extend your warranty.
    Its cheaper at Dick smith-

    2yr+ extended warranty $60 @ DSE - $109 @ GGs
    4yr+ extended warranty $105 @ DSE - $249 @ GGs

  • hmm, at this price point I could start thinking about one for the bedroom! Soon the mounting bracket will cost more than the TV!

  • hmmm you can get wall tilt brackets for $19 bucks online
