Planet Earth & Life Blu-Ray Box Sets [Region Free] ~ $40 Delivered (Amazon UK)

550

A little late to the party, but I found this BBC David Attenborough Blu-Ray box set (Planet Earth AND Life) for a little over 40AUD delivered to VIC. Thought this might be of interest to somebody else.

My daughter loves watching these, and was looking to buy them from the BigW "sale". Way better prices from Amazon UK, though.

Also, as part of their Valentine's Day promotion, some titles could be added to your order for GBP3. Offer as per this link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_1732818…

Edit: As of 10:59, there's only 1 left at Amazon for immediate dispatch (Ozbargained?). Checked a few seconds after and it's now "Usually ships in 5-7 days."

They can still be bought separately at good prices, though:

Planet Earth (AUD22 shipped, alone)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B000SKNIWE

Life (AUD24 shipped, alone)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B002KSA4F6

or buy both for AUD43 shipped.

  • An amazing buy. I paid lots more for these a couple of years ago and I'm still happy with my purchase!

Another vote for these 2 series. They are simply brilliant and we have watched them repeatedly. I guess there must be about 15+ DVDs in all here …

They are a good way to get the kids away from the Simpsons/Peppa Pig also!

    • by DVD you mean blu-ray right? This series should be able to play on my Australian ps3?

      • +2

They are blu rays not DVDs and yes you can play them on an Aus PS3.

Australia and England fall in the same Region for Blu Ray (B) but they are not the same region for DVD (England is Region 2 and Australia is Region 4).

These series are brilliant and the quality of it is mind blowing.

I did some research last night and it seems there may be some playback issues depending on your display with 'Life' as the menu is in 1080i 50hz format. Seems to be fixed if you change the output to 720p on your ps3 though.

Something to note if you run into any issues playing it.

  • Got.

  • Got this a few months ago, great watch - still haven't got through it all. Good price, think I paid $56 on ebay

Good deal. Would buy it if I didn't already have the Planet Earth series by itself.

  • For an extra £3, you can get Planet Earth - Special Edition + Life as seperate box sets, shipped.

    • Reviews aren't that good for the special edition though.

Edit: It seems that the early releases of the Special Edition had flaws which had since been corrected. So it might be good to pay a bit more if you want to see the extras (behind-the-scenes shots at the end of each episode; not sure what else).

  • If one is interested only in Planet earth..

  • What's the $RRP in Aus for this?

    • Just curious, why do you need the RRP? Anyway, I can't find this exact set in BigW and JB, but I believe Planet Earth alone is selling for about 70-80.

Readings has the Planet Earth + Life box set for 179.95AUD http://www.readings.com.au/product/9397810202184/david-atten…

Have not checked booko but I probably should.

      • Check eBay prices, there are a lot of sales up at far more reasonable prices than JB. It's not JB's fault by the way, the Australian distributer charges way too much and has driven the price up which only leads to fewer sales and more profit for amazon.

I bought the Planet Earth standalone one for my dad for christmas and paid $65-ish at JB Hifi. :(

I just picked up the combo one for myself though - came to around $41 delivered! :D

  • Been eyeing this off for a while. Just started watching Africa with my daughter which has convinced me this is a worthwhile purchase. The only other Blurays in our house are Harry Potter so will be nice to watch something in FHD which I like. Can't wait!

    Thanks OP.

    • Glad to know it helped. My 3-yr old daughter has these videos on endless YouTube repeat so I figured we might as well buy them.

Amazon had already shipped my order, btw. Should be here in about 2 weeks, I suppose.

  • Nice! I don't buy a lot of Blurays, but this will be worth it. Seen all of Planet Earth already (still on my hard drive. Shhh…) But will be nice to have the disks, and free up the Hard Drive space. 1080p videos take up a lot of space… :S

  • I already have the Planet Earth Special Edition Blu Ray… bought it for $25 when it was on sale at Amazon last year sometime.

Wouldn't mind getting Life when it's available for sale.

    • Check the updated post. Life box set can be bought separately for AUD20+, I think. You might want to buy it.

Although the prices are good, these are the standard Amazon.co.uk prices as far as I am aware. Have had them all in my cart for a while to track them. Also, the best deal would be to buy the Planet Earth/Frozen Planet blu-ray set, and buy Life separately. Thing for me is in the sets the Planet Earth is not the special edition. Plus they still haven't released Blue Planet on Blu-Ray.

    • +1

Yes, it didn't look like a new low price to me when I bought it, so I guess one could argue it shouldn't be in Ozbargain. However, I felt it okay to share since deals like this have been posted in the past (and this looks to be the lowest price among them).

Appreciate your comment though, and to be honest I don't really care whether my deals get voted up or taken down (nothing I could get from it anyway). Also, I actually wanted Planet Earth AND Life (my daughter enjoys Life more, and I prefer Planet Earth — don't care about the extras in Special Edition myself).

      Cheers!

      • Sorry empty456, wasn't meant to be mean or aimed at you. Just to let people know that yes it probably is the cheapest price, just not a new cheapest price.

To go with the idea if you want all 3.

        Planet Earth/Life Box £26.75 + Frozen Planet £17.25 = £44 (minus VAT plus shipping)

        Planet Earth/Frozen Planet £26.25 + Life £14.25 = £41.50 (minus VAT plus shipping)

        • No worries! Thanks for the info regarding Frozen Planet. Enjoy the weekend.

    • How much is planet earth/frozen planet box set?

  • Thanks got one

  • +1

I just bought the Blu-Ray Planet Earth/Frozen Planet set as well: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005SE5LAM/ref=oh_details… for 26.25 GBP.

    More interested in scenery…

    • damn didnt see that.

      • Did you order this morning or last night? You can cancel an order with Amazon as long as it isn't marked Shipping Soon and just re-order the box set you prefer…

        • ordered last night. It has already been dispatched… but it's alright i'll stick to my purchase haha. Maybe some animals to break up the scenery is better :P

    • Thanks ..I cancelled my Planet Earth (alone) order and ordered this ..came out to be 25.46GBP..Bought with 28degree master card..so hopefully will be 39$ AUD delivered :) ..Thanks

  • Also just cancelled :P
