    product not available to purchase.

Also avid brakes are well known for there bad reliability.

If you don't do much maintenance go with shimano or formula.

    • +1 to avoid Avid, I've used Juicy 3 & 5s and they were terrible. By the end of a long descent you would be pulling the brake levers to the bars and nothing would be happening (+/- exaggeration). I've used $60 hydro's (Clarks S2) which performed better (they have actually been the most powerful brakes I've tried).

      • New Elixirs are so much better than the juicys or older Elixirs. (Which weren't that bad if you kept them well bled)

        • i've just moved onto a bike with avids. coming from a history with shimano, i honestly hate the guts out of my juicy sevens. brake pad retention mechanism.. does that exist?!?!

i ordered the elixirs because they are cheap. i hope i get more than what i paid for :/

    • mate i'm really sorry about that, didn't realise it was taken off!! :( (pricing error, perhaps?)

  • I like my Juicy 5's but they do take a fair bit of tlc. There are better options out there now.

  • Never had a problem with my Juicy 5's and they have been though a fair amount of abuse!
Maybe I got lucky? Brand aside this seems like a good deal if this what your after.

Should be marked as expired "Product no longer available for purchase"

  • I thought Avid had a good reputation, seems I got the wrong impression.
What would people recommend for a MTB with ~2009 Sram X9 & Shimano XT components, was thinking of the Elixir Carbon, but not now after the above comments :-/

You can not go past a set of M785 XT Brakes or if you are very flush XTR but you are only saving on weight.
Best bet is to get them from CRC or similar. I have the XT brakes and they are brilliant !
