  • King of rice +1

  • Still got rice from last time I picked up multiple kilos.

  • Is this specific to OP local Coles only

    • It's in the catalog.

  • Can anyone confirm about the quality of this ?

    • +1

C class, you can get superior quality only from Indian groceries stores.

      • So not worth it ?

      • We have been eating India gate..how is it compared to it ?

        • you won't like it then..don't buy

    • +1

not sure. we eat it so I guess its alright? don't know what to expect from higher quality basmati. don't like basmati much anyway, we mix it with long grain to make it more palatable. we Asians used to jasmine and long grain

  • India gate basmati is best to me. Price of India gate is approx 18$/5kg. The Coles one should be 5$/5kg because same grade basmati rice is available in the Indian stores at about 9$/5kg.

  • +1

Bought 2, thanks OP. Didn't even know there were grades of rice…

  • I used this rice before it's not that bad, but not going to be a long grain.
Would rate it as 6 out 10.
I normally buy rice from Lebanese shops as that's the cheapest place to get rice and spices I found. My local Lebanese or middle eastern shops has best deal for Taj Premium Basmati Rice range. It's $9 for 5Kg. and I would rate as 9 out of 10. And its better than the India gate for sure.
The rice I'm talking about is this - http://www.tajfoodsales.com.au/taj-premium-basmati.html

    • Some range of it at woolies…..

Taj Classic Extra Long Grain Basmati Rice is now available in all Woolworths stores Nationally.

  • This is bad Basmati Rice. We use it for making Rice paste.

  • what is the difference from Thailand Jasmine Rice? the Jasmine Rice costs similar or even more than this…

  • Pretty sure this is Pakistani rice which seems to be lower quality than the Indian equivalent. Or so my Indian friend tells me (as they would).

    • I can confirm this is Pakistani rice. It certainly is way inferior to all known Indian brands. We normally have India Gate. I tried this yesterday. The rice is missing the aroma of Basmati.
