Argh. I bought the 320GB imation from OW last week for $39. Just another reason to fuel my rage for HN.

    • bit misplaced…

      • It's HN! I don't need a valid reason. They have accrued enough bad will over the years to be the object of my anger for things they aren't technically aren't even responsible for.

Seagate 500gb at OW for $48…!

      • Thanks. Bought this one instead; HN drive is on back order at my local and the extra postage kills the deal.

      • isn't it USB 2.0???

    • i hate to say this man, but a few days ago imation erased all my files by itself. if this happens to you pm me i will tell you how to get it back, usually by using testdisk software.

  • Can you take the drive out of the enclosure and put it in a laptop?

    • Typically not, especially with this line of drives from WD you aren't even guaranteed that it will be a form factor that will fit a laptop.

    • If its a SE model you can not put into laptop according to Whirlpool.
Can anyone confirm as the link is from 2010?

      • If their is a incompatibly issue, It will be due to the drive specifications not the physical size.

SATA 1.0 through to 3.2, there is a possibility your laptop will not support the higher speeds
But all this information will be disclosed either on the manufactures web-sight or in the user manual

        Jet

    • Yes you can :)

      HDD's are manufactured in 1.8" 2.5" and 3.5'
It's the universal size all manufacturers use

What kind of read/write speeds do you get with these drives?

Do WD drives still have their horrible "smartware" that steals space and can't be removed?

HN has no stock in BNE but OW has the Seagate equivalent for $48, also IOmega 320G for $39.

Use the code 'WELCOME5' to bring it down to $41 http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/94577

Cheers for this (& for the promo code above) - should be added into the main post.

I got 1 at $46 and decided to go for another at $41.

My local HN was showing OOS, but got a call from them earlier and they are sustituting the Toshiba (also 500GB and USB 3.0)

  • No stock and on back order. Delivery to store was meant to be on 19/1.

As far as I can see this is another Harvey scam ad.

  • Price matched it at jb hifi and they happily gave it to me $25 below their cost price lol

    • *floor cost price ;)

      • If it's part of the EL(end of line) or Q(quit/discontinued) range they can and will go below cost price, their PDA will tell them how much GP(gross profit) is left in the product.

The manufactures offer retailers incentive's to clean out the old stock to make way for the new

  • Why are these drives so thick for a portable? Nearly 2cm thick for only 500GB capacity (1.9mm in reality).

  • We're gonna need a bigger coat…

  • I got it from JB. Showed HN website and priced matched it straight away. there is plenty of stock in Merrylands
