  • Anyone received email order confirmation yet?

    • I haven't either mate

Based on just 8 months ownership of a very similar telly, I'd agree this is a bargain.
Ours is the PS51E531A, same but without smart/3d. IIRC it cost $750 in June last year.

Coming from 32" this was huuuuuuge in our small lounge room, but we're used to it now.
We also got it from BBB, they are fantastic with their ordering and customer service procedures.

hahaha downvoted by climate change skeptics.

More like 'downvoted by people who are sick of the anti-plasma bullshit'. Seriously. I prefer LED but not to the point where I'll actively denounce the alternative. People can buy whatever they want.

          just bought one cheers

Then you're quite the hypocrite troll, aren't you?

        • -4

How am i a troll in saying that plasma are largely inferior and shit compared to LED???

          it's the truth

        • +2

          it's the truth

actually, its an opinion.. there's a difference
Each technology has its pro's and con's and each application may suit one technology v the other..

if you're only perceived benefit is reduced electrical consumption (in which case you're neglecting image quality which is a major consideration for many purchasers) then I hope you also take into consideration initial purchase price difference and use that in your total cost of ownership…

(and hopefully you watch tv in a pitch black room because those lightbulbs are likely using more power than the difference between plasma and an lcd)

I watch free to air tv, downloaded content and movies… for all of these (in general) a plasma provides a better image quality for motion and colour range and the negatives in terms of (minimal) increased power consumption and more selection in a bright room are well worth this compromise (if I had to watch SD formula 1 coverage on an LCD i think i'd give up :) )

Did they let you out for the weekend jinny1?

I see you're tearing it up on another deal:

Surely a lover of Mother Earth like yourself would abhor any TV. What with all the pollution the comes with production, not to mention the waste at the end of the product cycle!!

        • Poor troll is poor.

        • -1

Over time, phosphors age and solarize. The more light emission they are forced to produce, particularly if near maximal output, the faster their light output drops. This is why bright, fixed images can permanently burn themselves into a screen.

Sounds like that came direct from Google.

Mother Earth. LoL. I'm sure he says that every time he throws his Macca's wrappers out the car window (while his mum is driving him to Uni).

  • Thanks for this! Just got one too!

  • Same here. Just got one aswell.
However, I didn't know there was a bargain going on. Having said that… I've had the BBB web page open for the past 6 months off and on. Lucky we had a blackout last night. So I refreshed my webpages and low behold my wish came true. I would have entirely missed out on this deal. ozbargain has confirmed this was a great buy. Awesomeness….

  • I very nearly ordered one of these, but went to a store to compare to the LG 50PM6700. BIG difference in the black levels with the LG being significantly better (yes I checked the screen adjustments in case it was just the store settings).

The LG also has THX certified 3D (if that means anything) and importantly the Magic Eye that saves power by adjusting the brightness/contrast to suit the ambient light. This also makes late night viewing a lot more comfortable on the retinas.

The LG can be found for around $700 pickup, so not that much more $ for what seems to be a better TV.

I also did NOT like the Samsung 'joystick' that controls the settings menu.

Glad I did some research before clicking.

    • Good call. I did a bit of research on the screens that Apple uses screens on there iphones. There actually a Samsung screen.
LG does make great products too. My LG microwave has been in perfect operation since 2001.

enjoy your 5 remotes that you get with your LG

    • Some owners have complained that their LG TVs require part replacement just after the expiry of the 1 year warranty. I can't comment on this myself but worth googling for more information.

      • -1

thanks OP got my delivery confirmation this morning, did anyone else opt for extended warranty or is Samsung a better build quality?

    • -1

I don't understand why you would pay extra to get a smaller TV?? and you have to pick it up as well.

      • +6

Jinny, you are obviously very young as you can't seem to read, and have pointlessly trolled a number of threads at this website the last few days with infantile comments and uninformed nonsense.

I suggest you grow up before your account is closed due to complaints.

EDIT I see you are now in the Penalty Box. How apt. I also see you are still online, so you must be reading this huh? Oh sorry, you CAN'T answer from the Penalty Box. :)

Hey buddy, samsung models have a feature called "Eco" that works exactly the same way as LG's "magic eye".

LG doesn't even come with 3D glasses so you would have to spend $50 more, samsung comes with 2 free glasses.

And one should never ever compare on display TVs.

Enjoy your smaller TV for $50 more plus 3D glasses plus having to pick it up :D

Oh and you get like 6 remotes with your LGs :D

    • A lot of people turn that auto brightness adjustment off cos they find it quite annoying

      • Really? The only time I turn it off is when I am watching a BluRay. For normal TV it is on and it adjusts very well to the ambient light. In normal day conditions it goes up to 100%, however at night it drops to 55% (I think) which is great for power-saving and easier on the eyes. The Magic Eye feature is what keeps me coming back to LG.

    • Double post. Sorry

  • Just got a call from them, they're currently out of stock and are trying to get some more from Samsung. Est delivery date is now 20th of March.

    • edit: Site was saying 'backordered' for me, but now says 'in stock' again, 6 available in my area, which is what it said last night. I dunno. What area are you in roguenut? edit 2: just called and they told me yeah Victoria, in any case, is all sold out, he called Samsung and they told him that they have them in stock and should get them to bigbrownbox by end of this week, however there are 17 out-standing bigbrownbox orders that have to be met first, which could be the reason roguenut was quoted march 20 for delivery now. So hum, not sure whether to order right now or not (although longer I wait I guess the more they might get backed up)

      • I'm in Adelaide.

  • What a prompt service!
    Ordered Friday, received today.
Almost makes you want to buy local as much as possible.
    Great stuff.

    • same here

  • Have been thinking about an upgrade from my 32" in my room for quite some time, reading ozbarginers comments have persuaded me to buy one. Hope it's worth it!

  • After I noticed that it was on backorder to VIC this morning I decided to try the local Good Guys to see if they could price match (or at least get close). They had about 7 or 8 boxes on the floor with a clearance price of $850 so I figured my chances weren't looking good. I showed him this offer and his manager approved it no worries (as long as I was picking it up today). Loving the TV so far, damn big upgrade from the 32inch NEC LCD. I was looking around for the LG $498 50" plasma this morning too with no luck then I noticed this.. Glad I did :-) Thanks for sharing.
