Buffalo 3.0TB External Drive USB 3.0. $99. Likely Pricing Error. JB Hi-Fi

474

Long time OzBargain user, first time submitter.

Was at the JB H-Fi store in the Enex100 Building in Perth. Saw the Buffalo 2TB units priced on special at $99. Took one of the 3TB out instead and noticed it was also priced at $99. Suspected it must be a pricing error and went to sales counter and inquired if it was a mistake but she still put the order through at $99. Cheapest on staticice is Officeworks at $139 but their web site says its out of stock. I have uploaded the scanned receipt showing the $99 sale and also the box with the $99 price tag. There was only one otther 3TB drive left on the shelf at the Perth store.

I have submitted this deal in case someone can get a price match somewhere for the same/better price.

From the Buffalo site:

External storage that's simply faster
Buffalo DriveStation™ external USB3.0 hard drive goes on SuperSpeed and saves three times faster!
Buffalo’s DriveStation™ USB 3.0 Hard Drive HD-LBU3 is the next generation of high-speed external hard disk that offers SuperSpeed transfer speeds of up to 130MB/s, three times faster than the standard USB 2.0. Backwards compatible with all USB 2.0 enabled computers and notebooks, including Mac – the DriveStation™ USB 3.0 adds additional external storage to any device using a USB port.

Nice weekend everyone.

Thanks for the deal but this is useless unless you have the receipt. I can put a $50 sticker on it and Officework wouldn't care

Even with the receipt, most officeworks will not price match unless they have one of the following:
        1. Online Price Confirmation
        2. Call store and confirm price
        3. REAL original receipt

They always use the following excuse for scanned receipts or photocopied receipts:
The receipt can be photoshopped, we cannot accept this. Even if it is a photo….
Receipt doesn't give enough information, we cannot confirm if it is exactly the same product, e.g. Model Number matches.

most officeworks will not price match

you said it right there… most wont but some may. by now everyone should know this wont apply to everyone, much in the same way ifone apps dont apply to me caus i dont have an ifone. but in previous deals similar to this people have indeed managed matches at other JB/OW stores. its a bit luck of the draw but im sure anyone who can get this matched will think its a great deal and be thanking the OP for posting it.

i dont think your neg is really valid but if history is anything to go by these deals always get more +'s than negs anyway.

Yea I don't think anyone is going to care about that picture with a little $99 Jb Hi-Fi sticker on.

Not a fan of these Buffalo Drive Stations. They get seriously hot - Crystaldiskinfo reports 55-60 celcius with ambient at 21 and sitting on an open shelf. At these temps the drive's lifespan is significantly decreased.

Tried contacting Buffalo customer service to see if this is normal and all communication was ignored.

Take it out of the usb housing and the temp will probably drop or put it in your computer and put a fan on it. Thanks for the info though at least now I know that if I need a desktop HDD that I intent to move constantly this isn't the model for it.

Insufficient quantity (There was only one otther 3TB drive left on the shelf at the Perth store.) price matching is not a deal, pricing error is not a deal

Clear pricing error, JB. Price online is $219

    • I think it would be considered a "deal" (or at least worth a shout-out) if there were more on the shelf at the Perth store with the same price tag and the OP successfully purchased the HDD.

      But yes more detailed needed.

Then it gets posted in the forums not over here. Pricing errors are not deals. Its just someone getting lucky. Very lucky OP, but its not a deal for everyone else as they won't be able to get it unless the staff near them just don't care.

I think it's great that OP posted this here, but it should be in the forums area, as it's not a deal for everyone & not a sale, but likely a price error.

  • Can you link to "the scanned receipt showing the $99 sale"

I think the receipt is in the pic below the product box. However, no one is able to see anything on it due to whatever reason. PLEASE RE-UPLOAD A VISIBLE PICTURE OF THE RECEIPT. Thanks!

    • haha :D

it works for me. it's a pdf file, and look for the file in your downloads folder.

So very Sorry. I will scan and put up receipt soon. First time user and I thought I had attached two documents.

Even if it is a pricing error - a good post. Some of the best deals on here have probably been pricing errors.

I was about to comment that the scanned receipt has been uploaded, then I saw "I am associated with Uploaded Files" below the comment box. That is hilarious.

    Good on you OP.

That is a great catch…. it is a tough crowd here sometimes. Hope someone manages to get a price match with that receipt

  • +1

This is not a deal as it goes against several of the posting deals rules:

MAKE sure there is sufficient quantity. - OP said there was only one left where he got the product.
POST only active deals. - Its not an active deal more a right place, right time.

NO Price Matching deals. - There are specific rules to posting "price matching deals". You can't post something and say "go price match". There is a method to it, part of that is the OP must have made the first price match and be able to prove it to be allowed to post it.

This should be moved to the forums as some people may get lucky with it so its not bad to have posted. But it shouldn't be in the deals area.

Not a deal. Simply a shopper's flukey checkout experience. Nice buy, but no 'bargain'.

  • +2

Thanks for effort OP, this is a powerful bargaining tool, power in the hands of 'the man with the big mouth or woman with the big arse' and its a deal even if its not a stock standard deal!

So say I who is ME.

  • I was in perth city last evening.. Wish u posted earlier

  • So anyone other than the OP able to buy one for that price yet?

  • i hope that receipt doesnt have ur credit card details on it!

  • I called JB Hi-Fi (Brisbane, Queen Street) they scanned it and it showed up as $219.

  • Just checked pricing at the JB where OP got the deal and the scanned price is back to normal. Bargain over.

  • I saw the same drives at Macquarie Centre NSW yesterday.

The 2tb (no stock) was $99.

The 3tb (sitting in the 2tb spot with the $99 sign) was marked $219. Was tempted to try what the OP did but didn't bother. Regret not at least trying now as I would have bought 4 x 3tb for $99 each…

  • This appears to be the cheapest 3tb at JB right now…

If it interests anyone. i showed a sales person the receipt, and they said that it couldnt be done. however she did offer me the hard drive for $145
which i thought was a steal anyway.
