Free ClimateSmart home service (with $50 rebate) BRISBANE only

140

The ClimateSmart Home Service (http://www.climatesmarthome.com) is provided by the Queensland Government in an effort to address climate change by reducing householders' carbon footprints. For $50, you get

• a wireless energy monitor installed by a licensed electrician
• an energy audit of your home
• a free water and energy efficient showerhead (where appropriate)
• up to 15 free energy efficient light globes
• a customised energy and water efficiency management plan

The service is worth approximately $450 and claims to save you up to $250 on your energy and water bills per year, as well as help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Brisbane City Council is now offering a $50 rebate to Brisbane residents to cover the full cost of this service, making it free :) I couldn't see whether there is an expiry involved (I assume they will end it at some stage).

I don't know if other councils in Queensland have a similar offer, or if other states have a similar service. Even at $50 this is a good deal, though you might need to wait a while to get it. I registered for the service mid 08 when I first heard about it, got a call in December to line up an appointment which will be taking place mid March.

  • The wireless energy monitor looks pretty handy, not to mention expensive. I don't even live in Brisbane but this is definitely a bargain.

  • Thanks for this, I just signed up. If you're flexible with times you can get a booking pretty quickly, I was offered one on the 11th Feb.

    • nice… i don't remember being offered much of a choice.

  • +1

Our local council has a similar offer, which is free - http://www.portphillip.vic.gov.au/climate_challenge_1000.htm…

But you need to commit to 100% green power.
