Knauf Earthwool Insulation R3.5 430mm Ceiling Batts $29 Per Pack Auburn SYD PICKUP/PAY ONLY

90

I understand that insulation is a pretty niche product and I want to make something else really clear. This has been available from us, for $29, for AGES. There was a time when the market got really aggressive and it wasn't a bargain. Bunnings at time of writing now sells this for $60 per pack. If you're in the market for ceiling insulation (not suitable for walls) it's definitely worth your consideration.

Pay and pick up IN STORE ONLY. EFTPOS, Cash and Credit facilities in store. Quantity available is massive, no discount for bulk.

I'm by no means advocating a specific form of insulation product, and I highly recommend doing your research before deciding on a suitable product. There is a pretty decent beginner's guide here: http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/household/heating… . The research I did when I had my first experience with the product suggests that it's very good quality but that "Super Soft" is a relative term.

There are also some Whirlpool forums topics that are relevant here: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1678112

It might sound like I'm under-selling this product you're probably right! Nobody at BiG BUYS is an insulation expert and you should do your own research. Even if it helps just one OzBargainer it'll have been worth the 10 minutes I've spent writing this description!

PS. The only reason the option exists to buy it from the website is because the option to switch it off isn't working properly. This is pick up and pay in store at Auburn only.

For those outside of Sydney there are alot of excess insulation stocks floating around from the old gov scheme. Check ebay and gumtree if you are looking for some.

    • Thanks will check it out. Just bought an old house, would be great if can improve the insulation

    • Be very carefull with some of that stuff on ebay and gumtree… it can be the imported Chinese insulation which does not meet Australian Standards. Result is either poor insulation, fire hazard, not vermin proof.. etc

For anyone who is considering this - this is what I discovered when I researched it last year - This is certainly a good price compared to other places. But if you're planning on installing it yourself be aware it's only marginally less itchy than regular fibreglass (which is cheaper) - you'll still want to cover up all over or be super itchy.
The good thing about it is that it's less toxic with other chemicals used. But once it's installed, it's all airtight it's all much of a muchness.

Positive for an honest write up. Why is this not suitable for walls?

Ceiling batts are much thicker than wall batts, if you compressed the ceiling batts into your walls it would lose its efficiency.

      • What Yowiefied said. Tooooo thick

  • For those in Brisbane R3.5 glass wool ceiling batts are selling at $16 direct from Boral. R3.0 is for $11 per pack.

    • Spend the extra $5. Anything less than r3.5 is really not worth bothering with

  • Will this be available for Victoria?

    • Sorry donkey, for whatever reason we never had any containers in Melbourne so no :(

I bought these from Bunnings last year when they got reduced from 60 down to 35 and did my whole house myself for about 400 bucks. Good product and can vouch for much less itch compared to the horrible old stuff even after crawling around in it for a few hours.

    • Thanks for the review macca! It's good to hear from people who have really rolled around in the stuff
