Free points for what? Better to put what is being offered in the title, please

Competitive annual Card fee of $99

  • -2

Not free as its $99 for the annual fee.

    • Not free as its $99 for the annual fee.

Would help if you could read:

"Can use the points to pay off the annual card fee, which leaves you enough points for approx $100 worth of david jones gift cards!!"

      • No its not free, the card points can be used for subsequent years. So you have to pay $99 up front and only for following years can you get it free.

        • You can get $200 worth of gift cards, even if you can't directly pay off the initial $99 for the first year fee you're still making $100 profit.

          Thus it's essentially free.

    • +1

Dude, you are missing the point..$99 cant buy that much points!

  • +7

The title requires a lot more information. Needs to say something about this being a promo for those who sign up for a DJs Credit Card

  • People dont read… :D
I got 1 last year, should have cancel and reapply now…

  • +1

30,000 Membership Reward points = $200 statement credits
basically, you get $100 for free.

    http://catalogue.membershiprewards.com.au/viewAwardDetail.mt…

  • The whole deal is basically you can get a FREE $100 DJ gift card.

30.000 bonus points can be redeemed for $100 credit to your statement which eliminates the $99 annual fee, this cost you 14.500 points.

    AND

Redeem $100 DJ gift card which cost you 13.300 points.

    So total points spent : 14.500 + 13.300 = 27.800 which is less than 30.000 points.

There are other rewards you can redeem not just DJ gift card, but they cost different points.

So what is this? I DJ's branded credit card?
you might want adjust the title to it mentions what the deal is for,

  • -3

Its not Free. We have to sign up for a credit card.

    • +2

We should also need to walk to Boost juice store to get a FREE Boost… Does that mean it's not a FREE juice?

      • when was the free boost juice on?

    • @Cardz!!

its says the points are free. Not the card. Read the title again.

      @yaditya

I guess thats not on the cardz.

Home delivery and someone to drink it for you, might qualify as being free.. :)

Title is fixed. Still no bargain here. Most Credit card people offer a bunch of free points when you sign.

      • Please give some examples, so we ozbargainers can get benefited.

        • Only because you said please

          https://www.woolworthsmoney.com.au/wowm/wps/wcm/connect/WowM…

Woolworths credit card. 16,000 frequent flyer points. Yes its 6000 less points but its a mastercard with

          1. 1 frequent flyer point per dollar spent. I am not sure the DJ Amex one does that
          2. Mastercards are accepted at a lot more retailers/bill pays etc and normally with lower credit card surcharges imposed.
          3. 0% interest on existing transfers for 6 months

Edit: Nice I give an example and some turkey just negs me. Its a shame we have these guys here >.<

30K MR points is worth MUCH more than 22.5K QF points.

Also, bear in mind the following from the T&C:
"Reward Points are awarded after you spend three times on your Card outside of David Jones within the first month of becoming a David Jones American Express Cardmember"

    • So why the neg?

For those who drool over the 30000 points to convert to Frequent Flyer points (other than Qantas), note that these are DJ's own rewards program which doesn't convert from 1 membership point to 1 FF point.

    • Guilty. Was drooling for some FF points!

      • Also guilty - was just about to post and ask what rate they convert at?

        • So these are different to AMEX's 'normal' MR points, since those transfer at a rate of 1:1 to something like Asia Miles etc

Guess I won't be signing up anymore.

          EDIT:
Under the Reward Choices tab on the link it says the following for 'Membership Rewards':
Choose from eight leading airline partners8 including Singapore Airlines and Virgin Frequent Flyer (excludes Qantas)
Book travel instantly through one of our Travel Agency Partners, buy foreign exchange and much more

…meaning they act as normal MR points which can be transferred over for points from their travel partners.

EDIT 2: And in addition to the above, under the T&Cs
          8. To transfer American Express Membership Rewards points for points into an airline rewards or frequent guest partner program you must be a member of the partner program. Membership of the partner program is the Cardmember’s responsibility and is subject to the Terms and Conditions of the applicable program. A joining fee may apply.

        • It's half price: 1 DJ MR point to 0.5 Krisflyer Points…

        • Yes, they did not explicit give you a table on their conversion rate… That's what I thought too until I signed up and realised nope, it's half price…

        • Hi diyoshii.. I did some googling…

          http://www.pointhacks.com.au/david-jones-american-express-gu…

It's pretty deceptive, but seems a factor of 0.5 applies for David Jones cards. In that, these 30,000 points can be converted to, say 15,000 Asia Miles points.

If you have another AMEX card, also suggests you can transfer the 30,000 to your regular program first, but will then have to pay $150 for the privilege.

For some, the 15,000 points may be worth it still :)

        • hmm $99 for 15k points or $249 for the full 30k, doesn't seem as good a deal suddenly haha

How many amex's are you allowed to have?

I already have 2, will they decline me if apply again?

    • Getting rejected by AMEX… the "easy" one among credit cards… is that a new high or a new low?

That being said, I too could definitely use a $100 GC.

    • From memory AMEX have a limit of 2 cards per person, unless they've changed it in the past 1-2 years

      • I've got 3. 2 Amex issued, 1 bank issued.

        • +1

Yes you can have only 2 cards with Amex directly……( David Jones Cards are issued by Amex )

Amex cards from the banks are different as they are not issued by Amex but the financial institution directly. It like having a Visa / MC .

        • I had 3 with them before. A charge card, a platinum edge, and a platinum reserve…

Or the charge card doesn't count?

  • great that you apply for cards and then cancel; we really need to destroy this unnecessary evil of credit and this is a good way to cut them up. don't worry about the credit rating which any provider would see has nothing to do with credit worthiness but your choice to cancel when you found the card unsuitable for your needs. there is no law which says you cannot apply for many cards.
a rational credit provider should not hold that against you and anyway you can ask why you are rejected or get their report and challenge it through consumer protection

Can someone link the reference to paying off annual fee with points? Can you do it with QFF Points?

  • If anyone wants to sign up in person at a store, please make a sales staff member's day and sign up at a counter. Staff get a bonus for signing people up and a talking-to if they don't sign enough people up each month.

  • Somehow I got 60,000 welcome bonus points when I joined at the end of last year… should really use them just in case they take them back!
