I bought an RX773 last year from Amazon Italy, good fast service… no issues.

This is about $200 cheaper than what I can find on the Aus market. A good, sound receiver with all the latest tech including Air Play:

630W = 90W x 7 (8 ohms, 20 Hz-20 kHz, 0.09 % THD, 2 ch driven)
1,050W = 150W x 7 (8 ohms, 1 kHz, 10 % THD, 1 ch driven, JEITA)
Discrete amp configuration and Pure Direct
Network functions such as AirPlay and AV Controller app
4K pass-through and upscaling for next-generation high resolution images
High quality video processing with precise deinterlacing
Front panel USB Digital Connection for iPod, iPhone and iPad
HDMI (6 in [1on front])/1 out) with 3D and Audio Return Channel
YPAO Reflected Sound Control (R.S.C.) sound optimisation for automatic speaker setup
Dialogue Lift and Dialogue Level Adjustment for natural dialogue and vocals
Newly designed preset remote unit
Versatile Zone control such as Zone 2 on/off and control on front panel
Advanced multi-language GUI on-screen display with album art (English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Chinese)

  • Do you have to do anything to plug it into an Australian power point?

    • Yep, buy a travel power adapter plug. I got mine for $1 from ebay.

Or buy from dollar shop for $2.

        • You mean the $2 shop? :-P

See this post here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79186. A number of us ended up with the v773 for not much more than the price of the v673 listed here. I was really impressed with amazon.it service.

This is true… although I haven't seen anything that good since. The V673 isn't much of a step down from the V773 though.

How much is local warranty worth to you?

    https://www.rio.com.au/product/3/7/782/yamaha-rxv673/

On a side note, for those that haven't done their research, the HTR-6065 is a rebadged 673, and can be found for ridiculously cheap prices at JB if your lucky!

    • 3 months ago, yes. Now, no. In fact JB have just discontinued stocking Yamaha.

      • I bought my 6065 last month. It had to be shipped from a Tamworth store, as they are getting quite scarce. Wasn't aware they had stopped stocking Yamaha? Half their stock is Yamaha or Onkyo!

  • Bought one. Would have preferred black, but it was worth it for the price.

  • Hi All,

This is my first post (new to Amazon as well). I tried ordering one, but it throws me an error that the product will not be shipped to Melbourne address.

    • +1

Make sure you select Amazon as the seller and it should ship to Melbourne. I bought the RX-V773 last month from Amazon.it and it shipped super fast to me via DHL to Melbourne (from Germany strangely).
The 773 has some differences that might be important for some, like full pre-outs (my reason) and phono input. But otherwise the 673 is a great AVR for the money.
My experience with Amazon for warranty has been very good in the past, but won't be as convenient as buying locally. I have personally found Yamaha to have excellent reliability so IMO the risk is low, but its always a risk.

      • Hi binary01, thank you. Unfortunately Amazon.it is not selling V773. I will wait… Cheers

      • How to do that exactly? - "select Amazon as the seller and it should ship to Melbourne"
I just add the item into cart then checkout, it gave me the same 'can't be shipped' error (in Italian). :(

        • Hi Shermax,
I am not sure about IE, use google chrome it will change Italy to English and the line below the price will read soemthing like "ships from and sold by amazon.it". If it is from a different seller, it will not be shipped to Aus.

        • Thanks Cart

I tried IE, Chrome & FF, none of them changes the page to English. How did you do that? :(

  • bluetooth?

    • No Bluetooth built-in but the Yamaha AV control app for smartphones and tablets is quite good and you can stream music via network to the AVR. Alternatively you could buy a good bluetooth receiver and connect it to the AVR. I use a Nokia MD-310 and it works very well with APT-X with my SGS3.

    • bluetooth is available as an add on rather large dongle that connects to the back.
it uses the "dock" input, works rather well on my 871, cost about $60 on ebay

  • I've been an owner of many Yamaha AVR's over the years, currently of a new RX-V673 and 1yo 671 (don't ask!!) I can say that yes they have great reliability. BUT, they are also not bulletproof and do suffer from occassional problems like all gear.

I have had Yamaha's that were bought in Australia repaired under warranty even without being able to find the receipt. However, I'm also certain that faced with the s/no for a non-Oz delivered AVR they will balk at the repair. Shipping and insurance to Italy (& return?) could be expensive given the size & weight of these things.

Just factor that into your value proposition so that you don't go off half-cocked.

As far as pricing goes, I paid $680 for an RX-V673B late last year locally. For a Yamaha non-stockist like JB, it will be near impossible to match. For others maybe not so.

The HTR-6065 the same as the RX-V673? I'd be a little careful with that assumption, if you compare the specs you may find there are differences. Not significant to some but critical to others. Having bought a unit it's a bit hard to take it back because you assumed it was the same as the more expensive 'rebadged' model- the retailer is under no obligation to swap/refund/credit the purchase for 'change of mind'.

    • I can confirm that the 6065 is exactly the same as 673. Google it and you'll find numerous threads about it. The 6065 is supposed to be part of a HTIB style package, but they somehow got split up and were sold alot cheaper than it's 673 twin.
Anyway, as far as a cheap local option the Rio sale puts alot of higher end receivers into people's budgets.

      • Hi Bob,
I'm sure that you are trusting and take the thread subscribers at their word for having been diligent. I on the otherhand before buying my 673 a few months ago made the comparison based on info directly from Yamaha. There are differences, as I said not important to everyone, but they do exist.
I don't have the time or the interest to go through it all again to provide the details here.

I'm no longer in the market (for now) so have no interest in current pricing.
Having had a long history in the electronics industry and as a HiFi/HT owner/enthusiast I'm just giving my opinion re: value propositions and relaying my exerience for other members to consider .
        Cheers

        • +1

I'd be interested in hearing what the differences are, since I bought the 6065 under the pretense of it being the same as the 673.
If you have the time to make a list I'd be keen to see it.

        • can't recall the differences.
As I say they weren't important to everone, but were of interest to me.
A key one in $ terms is I think the HTR warranty is shorter…maybe.

I'll try and find my notes on the w'end and let you know(if I didn't toss them already).
Failing that things that would have tipped it for me are binding posts, warranty, ethernet & other stuff that doesn't spring to mind right now.

        • Well I had a hunt around for the info I compiled on the AVR's, my notes are gone it seems. Scouting around the various Yamaha sites I was rewarded with only RX-V673 specs and info, it's as if HTR-6065 never existed (except where referred to with HTR-7065).

Seems that HTR-6065 is no longer available and was a Xmas special edition only.
          So it's all academic really.

        • Thanks for looking anyway. I think you could be right with the warranty, the 6065 might be a year less than the 673..
I know for a fact they are getting scarce to find, so you might be right about it being only an Xmas special pack.
          Cheers

  • I bought this new RX-V673 2 months ago from RadioParts online site for $590. Just checked their site and the price has gone back up to $729. A great piece of equipment though. I use it to stream music from my network connected hard drive via ethernet (it does not support Wi Fi natively though). Also able to stream digital radio from all over the world. Yamaha has its own digital radio site with hundreds of stations to choose from. I'm able to control almost all functions using my Android tablet. It is a bit of a novelty as the supplied remote control does a better and responsive job. This machine is Highly recommended.
