(SYD ONLY) Samsung Galaxy Note II $599 ($799 with a $200 Visa Debit Card)

1580

Just went past the Samsung pop-up store at Customs House in Circular Quay Sydney.

They're selling the Samsung Galaxy Note II N7105 for $799 and will throw in $200 VISA Debit Card as well. Card is as good as cash so effectively the phone is $599.
Deal ends 7pm 6th March 2013.

  • I went there as quick as I can after spotting this post, Titanium already sold out. Very annoying.

    • how long was the queue (if any)?

      • just a few ppl there. No queues :)
They only hv WHITE ones left and they do not hv any OPTUS bloatware on it. A plain Samsung phone.
        The model is GT-N7105T.

        • Did they tell you tomorrow will have new stock or not?

        • You sure it is the "T" variant? That normally is for Telstra stock, has the 800MHz band locked out on the baseband.

        • the guy called up the store for me n told me even they dont hv any in stock

        • it is the T variant. i checked it.

  • So do we pay $599 at the Samsung store or $799 and get $200 visa card to use next time?

    • $799 at the store (with Visa Debit given at the same time of course)

    • it's $799 with a $200 visa card

  • the reason why the price is dropping is because the s4 is coming

  • Thanks OP. Purchased at 7pm today (waited from 630pm as there are about 10 staff but only one terminal to process payments). Received 2 x $100 Samsung eftpos cards which must be activated by 30th April and are valid for 6 months from activation.

    • so i believe u settled for a white one :)

      • I received a titanium one. One of the guys at the pop up store cabbed back to the George St store to get more stock earlier in the day (guessing after the shortage). I was the second last transaction for the day. They had run out of White and they may have had a few more titanium but it was time to close up.

Receipt does not mention cards at all.

        • So we still get TRS back from rpp $799? Wow so the phone becomes 525$-ish

        • Titanium is better anyway

        • why the Titanium is better? I still prefer the white one.
I'm the last sale yesterday! i met moflare should mention oz bargain.. ha ha

        • I got a white one for my wife. It Is marble white, I think is bit too yellow and got a creamy feeling. Too warm, not cool enough.

    • Does your tax invoice show the 2 x $100 cards? If not, I am thinking of buying it by using my 28 degree card with the price protection. Watch the price drop to say $100 or $200 if Samsung discounts this phone's price within 6 months. So I might end up paying only say, $499 or $399 net.

      • But the price drop has to be at the same store that you purchased at. This store looks like its here for 2 days and then gone.

        • What business name and address is printed on the receipt? Is it Samsung store in the city?

  • I did get Titanium Grey finally at 6.21 PM.They got new stocks from Samsung store in George street and both White and grey was available at that moment. There were around 20 people still left when my purchase completed. Was also lucky to get free Beer from them to enjoy before joining the Queue. Thanks OZBargainers for posting this..

  • The white one was run out and they got stock around 6:10
No shortage of grey when 6:30 i left.

  • Come on sell some in Brisbane.

  • Where is Samsung pop up store in the custom house? ground floor, 1st floor..????? I can't find any info on the internet!

    • Forecourt… you can't miss it if you walk towards Customs House from Circ Quay station.

  • Anyone had any luck with price-matching this? Would love one but Sydney's a bit far to drive from Canberra…

  • If you miss out on the colour you want, and you're there early enough, they may take your name/number and let you know when more are delivered. It seems that they were stocking the pop-up with stock from the Samsung Store on George St.

They had a list of customers names for the last delivery at around 6:30 today.

Also, as of the end of the day today they were out of Note II accessories. I went down to JB World Square after and got a screen protector and plain rubber case for starters. Will track down something more substantial later.

  • Any body have their address and phone number please?

  • Is there limit to each customer? I wanna buy 2.

    • +5

sure one for your friend from gumtree eh

    • I was told today that there is no limit…
      I bought two ;-)

  • +4

I'm here right now. No stock till 4pm. They are taking names and numbers to call later.

They'll be in Parammatta next week but the staff don't know if the $200 will be on as well.

    • +1

anyways, at least I got a free cuppa and a keyfob with my mugshot on it.

PS The staff are super friendly, so you could just pop in for a cuppa and a chat and play with some shiny tech toys.

  • +1

    Already ozbargained…

  • what business name and address is on the printed receipt?

  • So, just wasted an hour round-trip to circular quay and came back empty handed. :(

Their nice staff did however advise:

    • orders for today are now closed - they're no longer taking any orders
    • more stock will be available sometime this arvo but no details on how many or specific time
    • staff confirmed they'll be relocating to Para Sun-Wed and the same promo will be offered

Given how iffy their stock levels are today, I think I'll pass and wait for the Para event.

    • yeah as I posed earlier, no stock util 4pm. So it was only going to be a trip to place an order anyway, even so annoying.

Good luck for Para next week!

Me too, javadosed. I wasted 25 minutes walking there and 25 minutes back, plus at least 10 minutes at the tent. I was rather ticked off. Methinks that they could have done a much better job of this.

Like at least a GUARANTEE to anyone who showed up wanting to buy one at Circular Quay, that if we spend 2 hours of our work day getting to and from Parramatta from our office in the CBD and probably at least half an hour in Parramatta doing the transaction, we'd (1) get one, and (2) get the visa cards. As it is, I way cannot justify taking out 2.5 hours from my workday to MAYBE get a phone in Parramatta.

A coworker labelled it "shoddy American tactics" to have such a limited number to sell on site and not offer to take orders for delivery at the same price.

Oh well, guess I didn't really need it anyway. My last Samsung phone roundabout 2003 overheated and started throwing out smoke on its charger. If I had not been home to unplug it and throw it outside, the effects might have been more than a singed tablecloth. I was considering this one because the value prop seemed so good, and because I figure Samsung's engineering and quality had to have improved in the past 10 years for them to now be considered better than Sony. Probably the universe wanting to tell me not to tempt fate.

  • thanks for updates guys..

i was just about to head out to grab one.. =(

so sad to have missed out..
wont get a chance to make it to Parra.. a mate of mine in the area may be able to pick it up for me though..

please let us know where and when the next pop up store is once its running!
    =)

    Cheers

  • The Circular Quay guys just called me. They have only white ones, and only a few, first in best dressed.

I asked if they could call me if they get grey later on, but they said they'd be too busy, so my best best is also Parra.

Looks likes I'll be going west on Sunday.

  • Anyone know where is the store located in parra?

  • No stock left at Circular Quay. They're honoring the deal by getting people to leave their contact details and to pick up from the George St store when it is back in stock (1-2 weeks). No guarantees that Parra would have stock then too.

    • Claims that the delivery guy never came - but good on them for honouring the offer. Looks like they were pointed to the definition of deceptive practices and bait advertising. Nothing like a good sensible law to stand behind.
They took my details and said they'd call tomorrow. Was assuming I could pick up tomorrow but could be mistaken.
      Shall update.

i think i will register a complaint against them with Fairtrading NSW. they ran out of stock day one arrvo.
        very annoying indeed.

    • Very bad that I am on the train now trying to get to there! :(
So if u left the contact details u will definaty get one once its in stock? Is it like pre-order or something? Just don't want to go in again later on and find out that its gone again!

    • so you can have a preference to colour?

      • Yes, when I gave my details, they asked for the colour preference..

    • OK, I'm ticked off because when I went at lunch time, they DID NOT honor the deal. They told me too bad, so sad, we have to treat all customers the same. (Which apparently they in no way did in two instances, compared to their treatment of me: (1) some people got to leave their contact info this morning to get a call this afternoon, and (2) some people got to leave their contact info this afternoon to get the deal. I would not at all call these examples of treating all customers the same. Now granted, I am not young and hip looking, so perhaps that played into it as I don't appear to be a great brand ambassador, however, bet my youtube channels reach more consumers than the average hip kid's social networking does.)

I shall visit their shop tomorrow and have a nice chat with management, because I work just down the street.

Literally, as I walked into the door to the pop-up shop, the $200 card flyer was shoved at me by a blue-shirted gal. And they did a demo and strung me out for 10 minutes before admitting that they couldn't actually sell it and couldn't actually honor the deal.

  • If you want to take this further with Samsung note - taking them to court / ACCC is a slow process.

Best to address this directly with Samsung.

Interestingly if they promote the event before the day and then run out that could be alright. *till stocks last is a common tool to protect a company. Many people got it - and there was a committed effort to sell it. That can be demonstrated by Samsung.

HOWEVER - knowing there are no more inside - they were still handing out the flyer outside the tent saying - buying the Galaxy Note II and get $200 gift card. Once inside the tent - you find out - they've got none.

    That is BAIT advertising.

Bait advertising that involves the offer of a product or service for sale at an enticingly low
price in order to sell some other more expensive product or service, or advertising a bargain
which does not exist in order to attract customers to do business with the merchant is also able
to be conducted electronically, as is inertia selling or sending unordered goods to consumers
and billing them in the hope that they will accept the goods and pay the bill without question.

That is where I would be going to Samsung - and stating this. Request it really nicely - to a manager.

Search Bait, deceptive marketing and "gov.au" and you'll see all the legal information.

I'm creating a business called "The Happy Customer" - www.thehappycustomer.co and would be interested to see how this works out …

I put my name down and looking forward to receive the phone call tomorrow. But I might want to resell it to the person who needs it more, perhaps if they can offer me sumthing like $50! :)

  • Pop up store at Parramatta will be at Parramatta Town Hall. When asked about having the same deal there, I was told that it might be different.

  • I turned up today but they were out of stock, so disappointed.

Apparently they'll have another popup store in Parramatta I might considering going there.

  • I rocked up at 5.45pm after work….girl approached me and I said I was interested in the Galaxy Note deal….she said they were taking names and I would be called tomorrow - I was able to choose the colour too.

The promo girls are not Samsung employees just promo girls however there was a Samsung guy there from the George St store taking names and was very cool about it.

Not sure why some were turned away earlier in the day…maybe they were still working out what to do with no stock?

I'll try to ask the guy if he can spare a few for NWLikeShopping and [email protected]

  • Was there 10:30 this morning, told no stock until 4pm, asked if i could leave my number, they declined, told it would be first come first served.

And they decided taking names in the afternoon? Pop up store with pop up decisions i guess:( Will email their management tmr

    • Pop up stores are to drum up hype and promo products which usually involves some little special deal on the side. It was a small tent with some promo girls - not a real store with a storage room out back holding hundreds of phones in stock!

Let's be fair….much larger corporations have fallen hard in the face of an 'ozbargain' thread so cut them some slack.

      • Perhaps you are right mate, stepping back, its just phone, no big deal:)

  • I'm first on the list from yesterday and I'm paying for my one now. Debit cards are in $25 or $50.

    Good luck to others :)

    • Cool! Can you ask if they will hold for you if you can't get to there straight away ? (For some ppl like me dont work in the city ….)

  • anyone got their phone calls yet? can someone check if it is still first come first serve ? It takes me hours to get to the city. Will they hold the phone for you ?

    • +1

Yes, they hold for you :)
      Good luck!

      • Thanks !

  • go a phone call too said my phone is ready. I was pretty far down from the list.

  • Friend of mine said they had to give them driver's license and take to back of store to verify their name was on the list… sounds very sus to me :S

Can anyone confirm if that happened to them?

    • I certainly won't be doing that!

      • If I had to do it @ Para, then I'd at least know who's the culprit behind my ID theft… so much for anonymity in this day and age…

        • Hi, where's the store in Para if you don't mind?
Also, can you please list the store name & address details on your receipt?

    • Just got mine from George Street, they did ask for sth that can identify yourself, I presented my student card, no problem at all.

      • Hi, can you please list the store name & address details on your receipt?

    • you mean from vodafone to Kogan Mobile / Aldi Mobile

      • +3

        no, to TPG or Vaya!

  • Went pass Parramatta town hall this morning, there's a Samsung pop up store but no Note 2 deal :-(

    • Damn, I was planning to head out this morning ;(

    • Any other deals? S3?

  • any updates on the parramatta pop up store? is there any good note 2 deals?

    • From memory, there are only deals on 7 to 10 inch tabs, with $25 to $100 debit card attached

no special deal on note 2 officially, but i explained to them that i was at circular quay the other day and missed out the note 2 deal, they put my details on a list, said they would contact me if deal back on, no guarantee though, fingers crossed

The guys are very helpful this time:)

  • I was going to buy from these pop up stores but decided to wait a few more days for the march 14 announcement. See what's the S4 coming with…..

  • anyone know how long the warranty is if we buy from samsung store?

is it 12 months or 24 months?
