David Jones - Nikon 1 V1 + 10-30mm Lens + SB N5 Speedlight Flash for $359.10 Delivered

150
WELCOME10

If you are tempted by the recent Nikon 1 V1 price drop, here's a deal for Australian stock + warranty that includes the flash.

I was looking at past Nikon 1 V1 deals on OzBargain and noticed that this bundle was previously $449 at DJ's, and did a check on the DJ's site, which showed a price drop to $399. Thanks to the 10% off online discount posted by hallelujah, the price drops further to $359.10. Delivery is free for orders over $50.

In case you're wondering if the flash is necessary, the V1 does not come with any built-in flash.

Note: The online price is clearly superior with 10% off, but if you happen to be going overseas within 30 days, you can also buy in-store and use the Tourist Refund Scheme to get your 10% back - I did this because we also had a DJ's gift card to use. The Sydney CBD store still has lots of stock.

Warranty: Nikon Australia is offering a free warranty of 2 years (instead of the usual 1 year) for both the camera body and the lens if you have purchased from an authorised reseller (DJ's is on the list). See Nikon warranty registration page for further details. You need to become a My Nikon Life member first (free) and quote your username.

  • A decent little camera, but I really wouldn't want to be locked in to such a small lens choice compared to 4:3

    • With the mount adapter, it seems like there are heaps of lenses that are compatible?

Edit: Yikes, didn't realise how expensive the adapter was until now!

Welll….. I agree, although you can get an adapter (http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Lens-Adapt…) to enable standard F-mount Nikon lenses to be used (with some restrictions depending on the age of the lens) so if you have some of those already then maybe it makes more sense…. that 50mm f1.4 becomes the equivalent of a 135mm…..

Edit: snap Beaten by Moocher! Yeah, the adapter is not cheap. Maybe $220 if you're lucky from eBay.

Still nice to have a good selection of native lenses as opposed to spending money on an adapter just so you can use much bigger lenses that were designed for bigger sensors. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a small body if you stick large lenses in front of it. It's okay from time to time though (I do it with older manual focus lenses on my mirrorless cameras) but gets a little ridiculous once you start using large-ish zooms.

PlasticSpaceman makes a good point though. If you already have some of those lenses then go for it. But if you're just starting out and you're not made of money, Micro Four Thirds is probably the best mirrorless system in terms of value for money.

Still, I'd take a crack at the Nikon 1 system if it was a little cheaper and they had some nice fast primes. This price isn't too bad though considering it's an Aussie store plus it comes with the flash.

Wouldn't getting the mount adapter and using standard F-mount Nikon lenses defeat the purpose of getting a mirrorless camera in the first place? One of the main advantages over DSLRs is the significantly smaller size, and when you stick a clunky adapter and your significantly larger lenses on it this advantage is diminished.

Of course, you could attach a smaller prime lens like a 50mm but considering the cost of the adapter you may as well get a D3200/5200.

Now as for the V1 kit itself, the huge price-drop does make it more appealing compared to the more popular M4/3 & APS-C mirrorlesses. I mean, this is in the point-and-shoot price range! Still don't know why Nikon opted for the smallest sensor size, but it's fast AF is nice and the EVF at this price is also very handy.

    • The price drop seems huge because the original price was huge :p But it's nice to get a camera with an EVF at that price.

By the way, if the sensor tech is anything like the Sony RX100 sensor (same sensor size and Sony manufactures both sensors as far as I'm aware) then there's nothing to worry about. Unless maybe if you're into shallow depth of field.

  • Hope there'll be good deal for J1 below $200 soon.

    • That is how much I paid for my J1, off ebay auction.

      • WOW! is that brand new? then that's a really good deal

  • I have a Nikon DSLR but even so I generally treat the concept of lens adapters as abominations - I'd be concerned that my 50mm f1.4 plus adapter on the V1 body would make the thing unbalanced so yeah - although I'm sure the camera is just fine I personally would also consider spending a bit extra on something like the Sony NEX with the APS-C sensor….. can get one with lens for $560ish mark (eg http://cameraparadise.com/Sony-Alpha-NEX-5RL-Kit-with-16-50m…)

Probably the stand out feature of this camera system is the fast phase detection AF. Aside from this, m4/3 or NEX would be a better bet.

  • great deal if you need a handy cam - fits well in the pocket

    have one already

Being a true ozbargainer couldn't you just purchase it online for 10% off and get another 10% back on $359 when doing TRS at the airport = $326.36

    • Yeah very true. I wanted to use a DJ's gift card that I've been struggling to use for over a year and could only do it in store.

  • +1

Bah dont need a camera right now but forked out anyway at this price.
Able to claim the TRS so $326.36 is a good price.

For those who are considering the white model (aka apple fanboy), the SB N5 flash only comes in black.
