The Sola is still being offered for $179, this special has been rolling over for a while now.
You should be able to unlock it for free, I am a regular poster within the Sola thread on Whirlpool Forum and up till 6/3/13 people were sill getting free unlock. I was able to obtain my unlock code as soon as I received my confirmation email that phone was posted. You may have to wait to get code as not all IMEI numbers are logged in immediately.

With another extended expiry date this is starting to look like it's normal price now.

  • Great handset let down by Sony's rather poor updates…

    Sola doesnt have official JB

    • lol, who needs official when they can have a debloated custom?

I can't remember when was the last time, I recommended official firmwares to friends and family. Most of them come bloated and bad on battery.

HTC velocity for $199 trumps this.

    • -2

Yes the HTC has bigger 1G RAM faster CPU 1.5Ghz bigger screen 4.5 and 4G speed for only 20$ more and unlocked out of the box

    • Where can you get the Velocity for $199? DSE/KMart sold out ages ago

      • +1

local Kmart in SA has plenty at 199 still. Well $189 with coles card :)

    • Lol why are people negging the truth?

6 months ago, yeah the Sola was a great phone for the price.

Its been trumped now by the HTC velocity. Just move on and accept it!

Furthermore, this is just the regular price for the Sola…

      • Trumped?? Not every one wants a large phone.

Velocity great phone great price but doesn't suit everybody

Your first comment was enough, obviously people are still interested your second comment sounds like a troll

      • HTC velocity is not a 3G QUAD band phone.
Sola is a 3G quad band phone that can be used on any Australia 3G network.

      • the Velocity isn't available at most stores

I got this in december, couldnt be happier. I dont care about updates or jailbreaks. Only con is that it lags sometimes if u got the browser + other stuf goin. Awesome speaker for music. Incredibly powerful.

  • Do you have a direct link to the product please? It's not on the page that the link goes to, and doesn't come up in a search as prepaid.

  • +2

It has been a while at this price.

  • waiting for it to drop down to the $149 price again like when DSE ran them out

I bought this phone about 2 months ago. Unlock was able to be done without problem on Vodafone site.
I find my phone very very laggy at times when web browsing, opening sms menu and going to call someone (takes ages to show call register before being able to actually call someone).
Cant seem to see many other reports of people having same problem, but just making ppl aware of my phones issues (tried hard resetting but lag returned soon after) if u are considering buying one.

  • Also use qwibble cashback, ends up about $160

new orders will not unlock for free.Ring1555 ask for detail.

    • I have noticed that if you have a Postpaid Vodafone contract with them, you can unlock any phone for free, even if it was a prepaid phone.

If they question you about it (haven't yet for me, and already unlocked about 5 phones and 1 pocket wifi), just tell them the last one broke, and you bought a new one to use with the postpaid plan. haha

When you enter the IMEI into this website it won't give you the unlock code straight away:
      vodafone.com.au/unlock

Make sure when prompted to enter your Postpaid Vodafone Mobile Number so if they want they can pull up your contract account and they will not ask any more questions.

    • Interesting a post on Whirlpool stated he unlocked theirs yesterday when it arrived 6/3/13 ordered on the night of 4/6/13.
It doesn't always come up free on the first try, One OP stated Vodafone told him just to register the sim (no cost involved) Others were requested to leave details and an email would be sent when they could unlock. Others like me had code before phone arrived because we worked out the IEMI number was on the confirmation email.

They didnt even bother to put front facing camera what a fail.

  • not much of a deal, this is the standard price on the voda website

    • I was starting a new thread on this phone as the previous one listed as expired. Just wanted to let people know it was still ongoing for the moment.
It is still a good price considering it launched about 10 months ago I think for around $440, this phone was not well promoted so has not sold well.

Have you been able to move apps to the sd card yet Zelda.

      • i haven't yet, all the methods don't work for me :(

Do you know how to do it?

  • What's better, the Sola on Voda for 179 or the Xperia U on Telstra for 129?

    • the main difference is that Sola has 3g quad band, NFC, SD slot, no front camera.

    • depends on what network you use it on. If you you Optus i wouldn't recommend getting the Telstra xperia U

      • +1

Sola has 3g quad band quad band quad band quad band

      • Yeah I'm with Optus at the moment… why would that be a factor?

        • +1

Xperia U Telstra model works on 850/2100 MHz no good for you

Xperia Sola works on 850/900/2100 MHz Optus/Virgin work on 900/2100 this is what you would need
