  • I'm going to buy this on Thursday.
I have a MEDION graphics tablet for years, and it still works perfectly fine. Hope that the build quality is pretty reasonable for their laptops.

Does anyone have any experience with MEDION laptops? The 2 years warranty is comforting to know, but I was just wondering if their laptops overheat. Had a Uniwill laptop years ago, and the heat pretty much tore the component life apart slowly, but surely.

  • This is really good pricing given the specs.

Just not sure about the brand?

  • not a bad price but for me, i won't buy ne new laptop with less than a T7200 cpu and a gpu of below ~9200M GS

    • +1

I agree the CPU is not too great.
And with a resolution like this, neither is it good for watching BluRays.
Not that it will make too much of a difference on 17inch, but I would definitely prefer true HD resolution.

It is almost as if it has a body of Merc, engine of Hyundai ( No offense to Hyundai owners!).

But still, who doesn't want to drive in a Merc body if you are paying for Hyundai ;-)

      • LOLs or more like buying a cheap 10,000 toyota with a body similar to those of merc's and replacing the logo with mercedes hehe

      • I don't own a Hyundai but heads up, their cars have fewer problems than most Mercedes. Providing both cars are built after 2006 and you're not talking about the Getz model. I think the current best companies for car build quality at the moment are.

        Lexus
        Porsche
        Toyota

Hyundai is very close to them. BMW and Mercedes tended to be very low.

    • A 9 series geforce doesnt necessarily mean its faster than the higher end 8 series, the 8600M GS out performs 9200M GS, 9300M Gm 9400M G and 9500 GE.

You can usuually tell the class of the video card from the 2nd digit of the series, ie 8600 owns 9200-9500.

      source http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-8600M-GS.3707.0.…

    • You're kidding right.. the 8600GS is like a Ferrari compared to the 9200GS, which would be more like a Hyundai Excel..

      • Yeah despite the mobile 9 series being newer, pound for pound the 8600FS beats the 9200GS.

  • -1

Not bad specs but probably not great for games.

  • Dont buy this if you want a gaming machine.

    • definitely not a gaming machine
my dell has a T8100 and a newver gfx card (9200 i think?) and still doesnt perform great on games

then again, laptops just arent for gaming

      • Actually it can handle games quite reasonably. The 9200 is a joke (sorry, but it is) compared to the 8600GS. With TurboCache, the 8600GS will scale up to about 1GB of 'VRAM' and match the performance of an 8600M GT.

The 9 series are just the 8 series renamed. And the 9200/9300/9400/9500 are in a completely different league to the 6/7/8 series.

        • ahh i see, my bad
video card naming conventions, i'll never understand em

          • @twig: All good, nVIDIA are trying their hardest to make you believe higher = better. The 9200 is far better than the Intel IGP so you've definitely got a nice card for light gaming and HD decoding.

            • @cyssero: mines for work, so coding in IDE's dont exactly take much for the gfx card haha

      • "then again, laptops just arent for gaming"

if you are willing to pay, they are for gaming :)

        • haha if you're out, best to be enjoying the scenery and company
          not playing games

plus, it costs so much more!
decent gaming rig could be about $1500 for a desktop

  • It was $1499 two months ago. Nice drop of price.

  • Why is the brand an issue? I remember one of the earlier Medion laptops was ODMed by Wistron, who also make some laptops for Dell, Lenovo, etc. The Akoya is a rebadged MSI Wind. Fact: It has a 2yr warranty, and a 60 day satisfaction guarantee. I have made use of that guarantee in the past, and the manager had no problems returning me $1600 in cash, no questions asked.

So if it's what you're after and you buy it, you can use it for almost 2 months and if you don't like it, take it back!

  • Not bad, although it won't pump out games very well.

Definately not GTA IV or latest NFS.

Keep in mind people all laptops @ a particular spec are around 30% slower than a desktop @ a similar spec.

And yes - the 9200/9300/9500 series of cards would get munched up by an 8600GS.

    http://www.notebookcheck.com

If you can get a radeon 4850 or 4870 in your laptop you win.

Right now some of the best deals for 3D graphics you can find @ most stores - the 9600GT. The best bang for buck
are HP laptops in the DV5 and DV7 series. They all come with Centrino 2 and the latest C2D. The cheapes I've seen
    is around $1452 for a DV5 C2D 2.26.

Ram is cheap - so don't think that the 4GB ram is like an awesome add in.

The Blu-Ray is definately an awesome add in.
HDMI Out is an awesome add-in (most laptops have this now anyway)

    That's about it.

Still a good deal +++ from me.

  • This is good price. However, I had bad experience with Medion product before. My medion desktop and external hdd were dead just after my warranty expired 1 week. I dont think I will spend money on medion product again.

  • Seems like a nice deal, dodgy brand but probably no worse then Dell heh. Good for people who want a computer for home use that easily folds away when not needed and doesn't get carried around much.
