Received an email from JB advertising what looks like a decent price for entry level wireless speakers.

RRP $399 and selling at that price at DJs http://shop.davidjones.com.au/djs/en/davidjones/xwsma1-porta…

  • Appreciate feedback from anyone who owns or has listened to these

  • this is sort of a dupe… http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/96268

but thanks for pointing these out..

does anyone know if these can be set up like sonos to have multiple rooms with multiple tracks?

    • doesn't seem as flexible as sonos due to the limitations of airplay. for e.g., you can't play different songs in different rooms at different volumes simultaneously like sonos can. also, you need to have itunes running on a computer (or dlna device), unlike sonos which can stream straight off a nas.
i have sonos and love it. i'm also a big fan of apple (airplay is brilliant for video/ipad apps etc), but for truly flexible, simple to setup and use, multi zone wireless audio, nothing beats sonos atm.

  • This is a failed product. I got SMA4 and it always annoyingly stops playing music for unknown reason.

Bought it as the name of Pioneer audio guru Andrew Jones on its back but it's very deceptive. Sound quality nothing comparable to Sonos. Not a deal unless it drops another $100.

  • I've had the SMA3 for 6 months or so and have had no issues at all with it. No AirPlay dropouts or noise, solid wifi configuration once you get the hang of the obscure buttons. SMA3 is bigger and has a rechargeable battery. Both have wireless direct which allows the speaker to run its own wifi network.

Multi-room (at least via AirPlay) only possible via iTunes or with (paid) software like Airfoil for Windows/ Mac. You can use Airfoil and Airfoil Speakers (two different apps) to route Airplay through a PC and stream to multiple speakers. However, you do experience a bit of lag between the speaker - enough to be irritating if you can hear two speakers at once.

And I'm pretty happy with the sound quality - decent bass for the size of the units, has replaced my amp + 5.1 speakers for casual music at home/ on balcony.

    Hope that helps.

  • I have the sma4 for four months and has no problems with it. I had it connected wirelessly to my pc, ipad and iphone.

    • I wonder if I got a faulty product? My music keeps dropping even with a wired connection.
