  • The 851 was a bit cheaper a few months ago (right after I bought mine would you believe!) I think I paid $180 delivered and then it dropped to around $130 for a week.

It's seriously good though. The sound it puts out is amazing considering the size.

  • Not sure if its on clearance prices yet, but the other Phillips model the AS141- this one: http://dicksmith.com.au/product/C5912/philips-as141-fidelio-… gets great reviews too.

NOT compatible with HTC ChaCha or HTC Velocity 4G,
which have NO socket at top or bottom of its case.

    • Why won't it work on its side?

      • exactly,thats how its designed!!

  • +1

Also compatible with Windows Phone via Bluetooth

  • hmm at the end of the day…are these just bluetooth speakers with a USB charging cradle?
    or am i missing something?

    • cut and pasted from the review link

Bottom Line: An excellent Android dock that provides high quality audio, great battery life on replaceable AA’s, and versatility in use.

Pros:Excellent sound qualityGood size; not too small for the bedroom, not too big to take on the roadGreat battery life

Cons:The random fade-in and -out of music leaves uncomfortable silencesNo option to charge devices while not plugged in

too bad nexus 7 wont work! EDIT: seems you can twist the micro usb. sweet

        • Yep, I use my N7 on my 851 all the time. It also has an option to plug in a cable directly into the rear of the system to charge/connect straight through there.

    • Yes….however,……As they can automatically enable and disable bluetooth upon docking, in a practical sense they operate as per a apple docking station, I have the AS141 and has been faultless and will be getting the 351, as they have a great sound.

      • The 851 also has a full remote control, didn't realise that until I opened the box lol. My local dse only had one of each boxed and one of each demo, no further discounts on the demos, so just got one of each boxed. The sound output from the big one is damn good. The small one is surprisingly good for the size.

  • The software reviews seem very poor…I'm hesitant for my Note 2 as a bedside dock. I think if it somehow offered a landscape mode I'd be in, but the reviews may have just put me off, especially the removal of the autostart feature.

    • Auto start feature is still just a case of plug it in and it says "do you want to connect to dock" Click yes.

There isn't (or wasn't when I purchased) a better dock for an Android, I done a lot of research before buying my one.

      • Note sure how yours is set up, when I plug it in, it sync's to dock automatically, no questions asked.

        • Yeah its probably just a case of changing a setting. Which I haven't as I don't mind pressing the screen cos there are times that I just want it to charge and not link to the sound system.

  • I'm having an issue with the AS141 which may or may not be an issue with these other ones? Everytime I dock my phone it automatically turns the system on to the last state (bt, aux, fm) which is annoying. All I want to do is dock and charge the damn phone.

Does anyone know of a way to disable this auto start function?

    • Have you checked the settings? Mine works exactly how you want yours to. Then again I'm using a Galaxy S3 and N7 with mine so it may also be an OS issue.

      • I've got a note 2. Is this the phone settings or dock settings do you mean? Do I need to download the Phillips app to do this?

  • Am very tempted by these.

Does anyone know how they compare with the logitech s715i as far as sound quality goes?

That's what i currently use with my Galaxy s2 plugged in via aux and charging via wall, so an actual dock would be great but i have always been put off bluetooth by the sound quality it produced back in the early days of bluetooth.

  • Any idea if a nexus 4 with a bumper will dock on this?

    • My S3 with a bumper docks - just.

    • Yep, you can raise the plug from the dock a few mm to allow for cases. I use my case on it all the time.

      • thanks guys

      • you can raise the plug from the dock a few mm

Don't you mean you can lower the supports either side of the plug, it doesn't actually raise the plug on mine. Be good if it could, I would like another 1mm to lock my bumpered S3 in more securely.

        • Yeah, that's right actually. Now that I'm sitting next to it I see my error.

        • So tried it out on the display model. Turns out the little disc at the bottom of the plug is too big to fit inside the slot in the bumper. I guess the n4 bumper is just too thick compared to a regular case.

  • That AS351 is surprisingly loud and awesome sound for its size . Great find op.

  • Do these have hands free speaker phone mode?

  • I picked up one of these yesterday at DSE Nunawading. They also through in a 1yr extended warranty for free.
So far I'm pretty impressed with it, the only thing I don't like is that it won't charge your phone when its running from battery.

  • Does USB Audio work for Android 4.1+ users eg Nexus 4
"When I met with Philips at CES they assured me that the docks already
support audio through USB, so as soon as Google updates Android to
support it, Philips will release a firmware update to enable audio via
    USB."
