  • never heard of the (7 "+" votes, though !)

any idea what drive is inside ?

  • Does this play the latest games?

  • WD 500GB Portable is $48 in JB-HiFi. This is not a bargain.

  • Things to take note of when comparing external hard drives:
    Warranty
    Quality
    Reliability
    Interface type(s): USB2/3, Firewire/iLink etc, Mac variants
Max interface transfer speed - the speed at which the connection can run
Physical disk specs - these are hard to find for some
Disk specs include rotational speed, track to track seek etc. & define the hard disk performance once the data reaches the USB2/3 (or other) interface.
e.g. many USB2 ext. drives had 4200 RPM drives, on paper they look to be the same as their 5400 RPM cousins, BUT the performance was worlds apart. The same thing maybe showing up in USB3 drives now.

It seem none of the brands want to make it easy to compare the base disk performance of their products. I guess that way brand rep. and marketing kick in.

No disrespect to OP, I checked on HT website (http://www.ht.com.au/part/AK919-Fantom-Drives-Gforce3-Mini-h…) for more info and there is very little of note apart from there being a 1 year warranty.
After over 30 years in technology, I've heard of 1000's of brands, 100's of which would be classified storage of some sort or another. I've never heard of this one and so I would be a little wary of it.
