losing your fingers or memory of your access codes is even more risky

ive seen enough tv shows to know that if someone REALLY wants to get past a door, the fastest way would be to chop chop

takes a while to get a door open with 2 bits of lamb

don't believe tv shows. If someone REALLY wants to get past your door, they'll just break your window.

      • or if no windows (?) smash the lock and manually turn the metal thingo in the middle with a screwdriver.

Fastest way would be to take a gun to your head and force you to open it… not chop chop..

I've seen enough tv to know not to take CSI seriously.

But I'm wondering it it works with wet or oily fingers. I wouldn't mind getting one of these. I'll post back if someone chops off my finger/pulls a gun to my head/smashing the lock/digs a tunnel under my house.

        • I have a similar one on an internal office door. It's more for convenience than security. It always works and the batteries lasts ages. If my fingers are wet, I just wipe them on my pants before unlocking.

Not having keys is awesome. There's nothing to forget, and you can't lend your keys to someone who conveniently forgets to return them when you need it most. It's not a code that people can pass around, or an rfid card which can be borrowed like a key.

Same here, except I only type with 2 fingers so the impact was far less for me.

Good luck at 3.30AM with kebab fingers

Jeez I hope they work better than the one I had on my laptop, which sometimes worked on the first pass but could take 50 if it was in mischievious mood.

  • As far as I can discern these are also branded as Aegis, although I can't find an official website for either of them, the cheapest ive seen otherwise is on eBay for $197 so this is still cheaper if not significantly so

    Hi Guys
This new model comes with the finger print scanner that records up to 20 fingerprints, an override code on the touch panel, and a set of manual keys. A series of fail safes that all trigger the deadbolt lock, as opposed to the original model that was fitted out just with the fingerprint scanner. If you go to our biggest hardware store you will see this exact model on display to get an idea of what it looks like, it is retailing there as of yesterday on special at $395. Warm regards Becky

A gimmick - way too easy to defeat. Fingerprints are not a secret.
    And unreliable, as mentioned above.

NFC is a much better approach than biometrics, or use both.

    • LOL, it doesn't matter if you put a non-penetrable safe door as your front door……
Your weakest link in your house is most likely the windows, unless you have bullet proof glass or something.

      • oh no, the weakest link is the kids. Sometimes they don't even bother to close the door behind them.

    • Replay attacks mate.

  • too many cases that people intend to steal a Merc and the fingers got chop off……

too many cases that people intend to steal a Merc and the fingers got chop off……

As in "one is too many" ? One case, in Malaysia, 8 years ago.

  • Gummies!

  • This looks a bit too cheap and nasty for me

  • What do you do when the battery runs out?

    • About to say why would it be battery operated - check the specs and it was… Well that's a GG door handle.

    • +2

you use the backup key, while being pissed off at yourself for ignoring the low battery indicator that has been going off for weeks.

  • hmm, lift finger prints off door handle with sticky tape, gain access …

    • Just make it a habit of wiping your finger down on the sensor every time you swipe, instead of just lifting the finger straight off. It becomes second nature after a short while.

  • so what happens if they get your finger?

  • Why chop someone's finger off when you can photocopy his finger?

    • Why photocopy his finger when you can kick the door or break a window?

      • Because it wont hurt u

        • Plenty of burglaries happen now. Do thieves always hurt themselves every time they break in to someone's house?

  • Rep, when it says "Heavy duty" does this mean it won't rust if put on an outside door on the beach?

    • Hi Sophia
It is NOT made of 360 grade stainless steel which is one of the better products that would be optim in your situation. However it is made of a strike force steel which is a good quality steel and it will have the same durability as most NON stainless steel door handles. We recommend a product called Stigma spray that can be found at most major hardware's, its about $30 a spray unit and you spray the unit every 6 months or so, it is designed to repel salt from steel appliances. This will stop surface rust from appearing at around the 6-12 month mark and you can use it on all your other metal fixtures around the house.
      Hope this helps
      Warm Regards
      Becky :)

  • Rep can you confirm that this is battery operated?
Says it is on the specs, but surely that's wrong?
Also do you have a link to the manufacturers website?

    • Hi
Yes it is battery operated, some of our other products can be hard wired to fire or trigger the locking mechanism of doors and entry points, they are under our security tab on the homepage. This product is battery operated because the vast majority of installs are for retro fits. It comes with a standard set of keys as a fail safe and a touch pad code as well. This model has a feature that allows you to configure the unit so that it will only unlock if you scan your finger print and depress 2 or 3 of the numeric keys at the same time, it is just an added security measure. The battery operated unit will last approx 6 months (12 opens a day) it has sleep mode to conserve power, and starts a set of beeps once the power starts to run low. Tomorrow we hope to have a commercial unit similar to this in stock that can be hardwired.
      Hope this helps
      Warm Regards
      Becky

  • Mythbusters, fingerprint scanner security, BUSTED! 'Nuff said

    • it's for convenience, not security. You can bump or use a pick gun on a normal keyed lock which is much easier than trying to steal and recreate someone's fingerprint (make it a habit to wipe the sensor with your finger after swiping), yet you yourself still use keyed locks. Why?

      • Its for convenience not security? We are talking about a door lock right? If you want convenience why not just leave the door open? We use deadbolts with a monitored alarm, and my point was some people will have a false sense of security with this lock, but do remind me when I can buy a nice eye retina scanner!

  • I can't believe that all this commentary and not a single +1.

Thanks for putting this deal up Rep, but too bad there are no reviews for this product anywhere on the net.
