        • any idea re a dual tuner card or even two cards. I did ask before but no reply on this & hoping someone else knows?

        • +1

There's one graphics PCI-E slot and one regular PCI-E slot. They look like they're so close together that you might only be able to use one.

If you want to do that, I recommend you get the $27 mainboard upgrade.

  • hey guys.new here.just wondering if xbmc will run smoothly on this system.
    thanks

nevermind just saw the anwers above

  • I wounder if they would sell the mobo and CPU for 75 bucks ? If they did it would make a cheap upgrade for my Duel Core 2.1GHZ socket 775 system.

"This is a locked PC bundle. We're not a parts provider like MSY, we're a system builder!"

  • What brand/model are the HDD, RAM and DVD burner?
What's the speed rating of the RAM?

      HDD Western Digital Green 5400RPM
      RAM: Corsair 4GB 1600Mhz
DVD Burner ASUS DRW-24B3ST - 24X DVD Burner

    Anyone done any quick calculations?

I have to pay an additional 27$ for the motherboard upgrade then another 27$ for delivery so in the end it'd cost 232$

Would it be cheaper to build your own using msy? I'd do it myself but i haven't kept up to date with computers so i don't know what's good.

    • See FIRST post!

  • Current CPU and mobo prices should decrease in May 2013 when the latest generation of new shiney cpus get released. A good deal if you dont want to upgrade or use 3dgames.

    • could always do the graphics upgrade…

  • Anyone know if it will output sound over the HDMI?

I want to use this as a media PC and don't want to muck around with optical etc

    • Yes, all current generation HDMI enabled motherboard will have zero issues with this. :-)

    • May have to configure the OS to know that your receiver understands 5.1, and may have to tell certain applications not to decode things like DTS, DTS-HD, etc. Otherwise it may send stereo PCM over the HDMI.

  • Does it come with a HDMI Cable?

Just that, that would be more expense if it didn't…

    • +1

No PC I've ever heard of comes with HDMI cables. Budget an extra ~$3. ;-)

    • No HDMI as pe previous comment, its extra.
Be Careful when purchasing HDMI Cables ensure it prodcues sound over HDMI

      • hi rep yesterday you said:

        "Hi PlayerOne, we can add a PCI card for $19. This will give you 2x USB 3.0 panels. Or we can upgrade motherboard to; ASRock B75M-R2 (B75 / 2 x DDR3 / 1 x PCI-E3.0 x 16 / 3 x SATA3 / 4 x USB3.0 / 5.1 CH / HDMI / D-Sub / DVI-D / GBLAN / mATX) for an extra $27 which has 4x USB 3.0."

RE Upgrading the MOBI, did we have to give you a call to put that though or can we order it online still?

        • th eupgrade on MB is on Website Already, please check it

  • Was unable to input shipping as the only option showing is to "pick up from store".
    I'm in Tas.

    • defenitely has the option
I can email you a screen shot, are you a registered user or doing as a guest user ?

  • PLEASE NOTE: WHITE CASE IS SOLD OUT, YOU WILL BE OPTED TO BUY THE SAME UNIT
IN THE BLACK CASE FOR $20 EXTRA

    • bummer, no case for $20 cheaper?

  • Awww. Was gonna buy it with mobo upgrade. Now case upgrade to… :/

  • Maybe just get it off them without case and if your in Brisbane grab a 10 buck case from gamedude

    • see post above they dont do it without the case.

  • HI ALL - really sorry to make this last change the Black Cases we advertised 5hrs ago, produced a further positive response and we cleared all the last units in that range, end of life.

The Slimline Cases are available, they have been added on. The cases are 30cm high and 10cm deep, good for Media Units as per requests in previous posts.

    • any room for a pci or pci-e card in slimline cases ?
I'm assuming the same microATX options are available as for the earlier offer, e.g. Asrock B75M R2 upgrade

    • Can you please specify what is the PSU inside these things?

      • Haha, I wondered how long it would take for this question to come up. :)

(It'll be a generic '500w' PSU that comes with the case…that said, it would be more than powerful enough for such a non-demanding build).

        • +1

Might be a friendly SHAW PSU ;)

        • unless you get someone putting a couple of 7870s in Xfire

        • Yeah… I just have a skint boss who I don't want blaming me for the PC blowing up on us. :P

  • Will this play crisis? ;)

  • When will the $178 deal come back :p bugger I should have ordered one…

  • That slimline case looks pretty nice, anyone know what it is?

  • +2

While I was impressed with the price, I am disappointed with Visiontech's service so far. My order was placed last week but not processed until yesterday! I had a number of missed calls from an unknown Sydney number but no voicemails left. Reverse lookup showed this number to be Visiontech. When I called back I was told they were 'waiting on some information' - I asked what, and they proceeded to try and upsell me on warranty and RAM!

FFS, I already placed my order and paid for it and was expecting the box to be delivered by Monday. Now I'm not even confident it will arrive before Easter. Poor form!

    • -4

Well I guess being a cheap ass your not paying for good service :p

    • Well not sure why you had delays like that, but I got mine this morning in QLD.

They did call me and I did answer and didn't upgrade the warranty, but I did do the ram, but that was on my own. I think warranty things a pretty normal these days, so you shouldn't get too upset about that.

I found them to be really good, helpful and know what they are talking about. I know quite a lot about PC builds, I use work as a PC technician in my early days in IT, have built many PCs my self, although it was 6 to 8 years ago now, but I still know the basics. I simply acted without too much knowledge to see what they knew.

Should mention to anyone that reads this. I have set up many Media PCs for people with XBMC, funnily enough I have never done one for me as I have all the other media players that I needed until recently.

This PC works completely fine with the basic Celeron CPU. I have tested it with XMBC 1080p, Bluray and MKV with DTS HD MA, TRUEHD as well as the basics.

Make sure you set both to "Audio output device" and "Passthrough output device" To the WASAPI: HDMI - DeviceName (Intel(R) Display Audio. I see heaps of people miss this. It is in System, Sytem, Audio output

Loads up fine, works correct in surround sound with bit-stream, receiver shows the correct audio type etc.

I'd say anyone that got one and kept it basic for $178 will have a nice little capable media pc once you get Windows 7 on there.

      • Can I ask why you upgraded the RAM? Isn't 4gb good enough for things these days?

Btw, just saw my email and TNT have said they'll be picking it up from them tomorrow, how long did it take for it to get to you? I'm in QLD also..

Hopefully it is delivered on Thursday arvo so I don't have to wait until Easter break is over..

        • +1

No worries. The main reason I did is that I will plan to upgrade the system a little more in the future. So I opted for an 8GB stick, instead of a 4GB. Gives me option to go to 16GB if I need.

I do plan to upgrade the CPU to an i7 to do a little more video editing in the future. So thought for now I would get this PC cheap, and get the media benefits from it, then in 6 months I'll update it to a nice 16GB i7 3770k with SSD. I will also be adding a decent GPU to it, that the mobo will support. So I upgraded the PSU, memory and motherboard. Most likely could have got away without doing the mobo, but I'm already getting the benefits of USB3, although not a huge benefit. eg, I now get around 74MBps when copying from my portable to PC. With the same drive on USB2 I didn't seem to get much about 40MBps, so it's better. And this is most likely just a basic 2.5HDD, so not anything high speed

So yeah, for me it was all about building in stages. Sure I could probably buy all my final components together and just build it from the start. But I'm a bit odd like that, not always in a rush and like to try different things.

In terms of delivery, I was told yesterday afternoon that it was on the way, said it was picked up at 3:50pm NSW time. At depot 6:30pm. Arrived in Gold Coast 8:34am today, and was at my apartment at 10:50pm. So turned up in less than a day from dispatch

        • Ahh that's a good move smokenz! Wish I thought of that before haha

Thanks for the in-depth reply mate :)

        • No worries dude, was definitely a good move on my behalf. Have to say the PC performs quite well to my surprise. Haven't had any issues with it.

Did your one arrive before Easter?

        • Nah just got it today, but pretty happy with it! Great for a media player!

    • +1

omfg… Visiontech called me back again today saying 'we want to talk to you about upgrades'?!?! NO FFS I JUST WANT WHAT I ORDERED AND PAID YOU FOR LAST WEEK! It's apparently 'ready to be built tomorrow'. Unbelievable.

      • 2 weeks comes up tomorrow… Still no delivery

  • Any of you other guys got your PCs? How'd it go?

    • It seems fine. I can even play Team Fortress 2 for Linux on default settings at a fairly playable 20 FPS on the integrated chip (and faster if I drop settings); quite reasonable for a machine I don't plan on using for gaming.

      • Playable 20fps…?

        • I found it quite playable. Then again, I play medic. Clearly dropping settings increases FPS.

        • what res though?

        • +2

          1920x1080

  • Hey guys, quick question - I got the bare basic setup.

Now a part of me wants to start playing games sooner or later at 1920x1080 on my 32" tv, so what'd be the best graphics card to get, taking into account the cpu/ram.

No point getting a hardcore graphics card if the cpu is going to be a bottleneck after some time. Basically what I'm after is, what is the best bang for buck gfx card, that can fit into that slim case and run current games at a playable fps?

I've heard the GT610 mentioned a few times here, but is there anything better than that?

    • on board should be ok according to gmatht, if you just want to play with base settings, if not any basic graphics card should do…

    • I wouldn't be too worried about being limited by the CPU during gaming. The PSU won't support a top of the line card anyway. Since the GPU is considered the most important component for gaming, I'd consider getting the best card that is recommended for a 500w and doesn't require a dedicated power line. I don't know about slim line cards, but such regular cards are about $100.
