Free HDD backup software for Maxtor & Seagate owners

120

If you own either a Maxtor or Seagate drive, definitely download their free backup software, an OEM version of Acronis True Image (it won't work with other drives). There's DiscWizard (Seagate) and MaxBlast (Maxtor). The software works fine with external drives, as long as at least one of the drives involved is a Seagate/Maxtor-brand.

As long as you're not under the control of "…the governments of Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan or Syria" (in the Terms & Conditions), then Bob's your uncle.

        thanks

  • Any one can find a free software for WD Elements?

    many thanks

  • I voted + because this is a useful program for free and I've used it with many people's computers I've worked over a few years now.

But it needs to be pointed out that while the underlying engine is a Seagate branded version of Acronis True Image, this free Seagate tool ONLY allows for full drive image backups, and has none of the flexibilty and granularity of the fulle version of ATI.

But, if you want to make full drive image snapshot backups (as you all should) then this works GREAT.
I've used it in actual recovery (this-is-not-a-drill) situations and it performs just like ATI, because it is ATI underneath.

And you only need one of the drives in your system to be Seagate/Maxtor for the program to install and run on any of the drives in the computer.

I ended up buying a full version of ATI Home for myself because the HDD in my laptop is not Seagate/Maxtor so I needed soething to image backup that.

But if I didn't have that need, then I would be using the free Seagate tool instead.

    • hey TJ, before i install and spend time backing up my PC
does the seagate version allow for a FULL pc backup? or just one selected drive?

i would like the software to support a full PC backup rather than one drive/partition option
or do i need the full acronis version for that?

      • Yes you can backup and restore ANY and ALL drives in the system using the Seagate Tool.

        • sweet, thanks!
