If it had an SSD or hybrid cache drive I'd consider it.

Then I'd see the non HD screen, no touch, no 8GB RAM, heavy weight, and think… Id rather spend a little more and get a proper ultrabook. But thats just me.

      • It's not really better, they're 2 very different computers.
        The 3517U isn't comparable to the 3630QM.
Also the 24gb Sandisk i100 Express Cache (I know it says it has a hybrid driver but it's HN) doesn't make a whole lot of difference to performance, unless you install your OS on it :)

  • It is "shipping fee, all of Australia" btw.

  • Dell Inspiron 15R for $899.

    Full HD Screen
    More ram

    • Weighs a tonne.. No SSD…

    • Not HD at $899. ($1199 option)

      That's an i5 with a GT630, very different

  • This has been on sale for awhile - please note the following: acer has been known to be failing or dropping in quality now - especially with laptops. Secondly its refurbished - don't expect everything to work or rather don't expect you won't need to call for warranty.
On a side note: my friend bought this - looking like a very good deal. However in the end he had problems and plenty of BS-ODs. Even with my help and couple of other friends, the laptop was in such a bad state and too much of an effort to fix. Luckily JB-Hi-Fi exchanged it for equal value.

    • its not refurbished its new

    • Brand New, i called them up

This model Aspire V3-571G-736b4G1TMakk should be eligible for $99 cashback from Acer too

    • Probably not Australian stock… Someone maybe check this out…

      • Oops i forgot to mention the cashback. I emailed Acer and they said it was ok. Iall add it to the deal

  • Love how the machine has 4GB RAM, 1366x768 resolution but have a (low end) 2GB Video card. Not sure how that works with games realistically..

    • It's a upper midrange card, certainly one of the best in the sub $1000.

4GB RAM and 1366x768 is the bare minimum in those regards.

  • Just dropping by to say a work colleague had a shocking time with her Acer laptop. Multiple breakdowns, bad warranty service. It was a 2010 laptop, don't know the specifics.

  • I purchased this laptop midway through this month and I love it.

Plays all the latest games like Tomb Raider on high, screen does let it down somewhat, not really an issue for me as it's connected to my plasma most of the time. Recommended although I haven't had it for long.

Check out http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-640M.71579.0.… if your keen to play games, scroll to the bottom. It has a list of the latest games and at what settings it can play them at.

  • the specs are great for what i need to do but i need one running windows 7 any suggestions? and around the price of $700-$750

Do you actually need windows 7 or do you dislike windows 8?
If you dislike windows 8 the easiest thing to do is download Start 8 etc which gives you a start menu the same as win 7 it also goes straight to desktop on startup.
I really don't like windows 8 but after running it with start 8 it was pretty much the same as Win 7, you also have options to disable the right hand pop out bar.

Alternatively you could enquire with JB and Acer if there is a win 7 downgrade option available.
