Plus it would have GST included for those who can claim it (perhaps with some other purchase to bring the total over $300) and it would have local warranty. Nice find!

    pricematch at OW for $235.60

I guess a new Nexus 7 is coming out soon?

    • yep

      • When? What?
I don't think it will be replaced for a few months yet. Hopefully with a FHD 8" tablet. 8" is ideal imo.

I hate it when the price starts to dive like this, because it is hard to resist the purchase, but the price is only going down because we are that much closer to the new better/faster/stronger model coming out.

    Damn you evolving society!

Trying to UPVOTE but I have cast an excessive amount of votes today.. -facepalm-

So good deal. Picked up one of these not too long ago for just a tad more expensive than this.. damn I feel so bad right now, wasting those few bucks, anyway..

The tablet is really good, not what you'd expect for a $248 tablet. It feels like it's worth $500 to me. Never faced any lag and Google Now is so awesome..

  • damn these technologies! When you think you've got a bargain only to see a few weeks later it drops again!

just buy now and claim later with 28 degrees!

  • ffs and i literally just ordered the 16GB one from Google Play for $249 + delivery yesterday! good thing Google have a 14 day return policy with no re-stocking fee!!

    • wouldn't you incur postage costs for returning it back to them?

      • Nope, postage paid. I just returned a Nexus 10 16gb today. RMA process is very straightforward.

    • Try cancelling the order first. If unsuccessful, you'll receive an email stating that you can simply refuse delivery to save yourself having to go through the RMA process. Refund should be faster, as long as you contact them and tell them that's what you have done.

      • thanks for that. i'm expecting the delivery today, however i'm not sure if i'm comfortable with just "refusing delivery" and leaving it with the driver. at least the RMA process is all tracked.

  • 7 inch is too small for me. The damn Note is 5.5!

8-9 inch… perfect, hope next model is a bit bigger in size.

Inb4 all the "that's what she said" jokes.

    • +6

      that's what he said

      • its already out ?

    • that's what he thinks she's going to say..but bigger isn't always better.7 inch is more than enough for casual entertainment.Plus it fit nicely in your hand.
      Just grabbed one. Thanks OP:)

I got mine for 217 a while back by price matching OW to techrific.com.au(its actually cheaper on there now. $215 actually + 5% from OW). The site doesn't really mention the postage unless you try to look. It also has a big thing at he top saying "free shipping insurance" which I used to distract the staff from the $77.95 postage.

      • Nope 32. That's what I got.http://www.techrific.com.au/product_info.php?osCsid=3211faa1a035281a96f9b3e461ef06ba&products_id=4111&cPath=284#getprice

    • it's an absolute joke/scam that they charge you $77.95 for postage within Australia!
In terms of pricematching - OW staff must of made in error as they usually include shipping cost for online prices before pricematching… you got pretty lucky

      • Me and many others. I found about it on whirlpool. Might take a few goes but its worth it.
It is luck that's why its not posted

    • Yeah I got mine for $205 pricematching them.

      • Nice find- I might try that one!

Could you please upload a receipt?

  • Binglee, come on. Bring back the 3G version for less than $300 you have my money not the $332…

    http://www.binglee.com.au/asus-asus-1b005a-nexus-7-tablet-32…

    • I think you could get it for $300 with a bit of haggling. I picked up one on the weekend for $310 without much effort at all. Their website says $332 but the sales guy immediately dropped to $317. I offered $310 and deal done (I should have started lower!).

  • This pricing keeps dropping… in going to hold off… My Toshiba AT1S0 is still working fine

Done and done. $235.60 from Officeworks in Prospect (SA). Plenty of stock.

    • Just got one from OW in Melbourne Bourke st for $235.60

  • These price drops mean that Google is releasing the next version of the N7. But personally i am quite happy with the 16 gigs version that i got currently, and waiting for the overpriced iPad Mini v.2 with Retina display.

    • +1

What would the main upgrades on the new N7 be?

A better processor? Higher res screen? Longer battery?

I'm just wondering whether it's worth waiting for or not.

      • according to my sources, it would have better processor (newer generation Tegra), higher resolution screen (it was mentioned that FHD resolution maybe employed), and longer battery life (but don't expect a huge increase).

So unless you need a N7 really desperately, you can probably wait a little bit longer, and see what new model offers.

        • Yeah, but most likely double the price.

I would opt for a store purchase. I returned 4 before I exchanged it for the 5th time with dead and stuck pixels.

However, this is a great device.

        • The price should be the same as the current N7, it is a loss leader for google, they will make the money back from your various apps purchase, use of Youtube, etc. If they double the cost of the new N7, then it would be more expensive then the Apple iPad Mini.

        • I hope you're right, will be interesting to see.

      • I read somewhere the new version screen can change to become similar to the kindle paperwhite, so much better for reading books
I prefer reading on my galaxy 7.7 than my (old style) kindle but I can't do it for very long

        • If that's true, I'd definetly wait for it. Otherwise this one does pretty much everything I want (except HDMI out!)

        • I also want a tablet to replace by current laptop for travelling… but looking for HDMI to connect to hotel TVs to watch my TV episodes and movies.

        • +1

My tip for reading books (ie. reading text only for long periods) on a LCD is beige text on black background, set brightness to as low as you can cope with (eg. at night I read with 6%, no lights on), use a serif font.

I can read for many hours like that with no eye strain. PS. studies have indicated that white backgrounds at night mess with the circadian rythym.

    • Yeah I was holding out for new model but this one is perfect for me, front camera, better screen, better cpu maybe, don't really care. It browses fine, it plays games fine and does all I need so I probably save well over $100 over the new, yet to be released one.

    • Or it could be we're just adjusting to the price these things were in the US last Sept. I paid US$199 (AU$189 at the time) in Walmart for the 16G. Guess what the price in Walmart is today? Yep $199, so no price drop at all.

  • I am going to withhold buying and will camp playstore when the 7.7 comes out.

  • I want the 10" but hard to find stock and price is so much more. Might get the 7 for the kids.

  • Thanks op got one at Glen Waverley OW. $235.60
Had to wait a while whilst they checked on their own computers.

    • for the OW price match.
  • Thanks OP got one at Alexandria Officeworks $235.60

Just remember the new google nexus 7.2 comes out in May this year. So these older google 7's will drop in price by a fair amount if you can wait another 4 weeks,

    • Where can i get more info on what more they'll offer (in terms of specs)?

    • thanks mate

  • Hi I got mine today at OW Alexandria for 204.25!!! Price matched with Techrific! Really good deal! The staff checked the return policy on Techrific but didnt notice the 79.9 delivery charges on Techrific. Guess I was pretty lucky.
