wait one month and as per all samsung products are cut by 100s. ill just wait.

This time maybe faster due to increasing demand for other android flagship mobiles. I.e. htc one and xperia z.

  • What makes smartphones so expensive?

    • +1

      Apple

      • +3

Nothing to do with Apple. I paid more than this for my HTC Tytn 1 before the first iPhone was launched.

I only know Nokia used to make non smart phone cost around $1600. Thanks to iPhone now all new released flagship phone are below $1000.

        • I only know Nokia used to make non smart phone cost around $1600.

          Which model was that???

        • +1

So, we're comparing a phone released in 1993 to one released in 2007…do we by chance have a more chronologically appropriate analogy???

Otherwise, I'll calling shenanigans on that…

Supply & demand + early adopter tax! ;)

    • +5

the formula is Australia tax + sucker tax + middle man margin + manufacturers price

    • I've found a Whirlpool forum topic that answers my question.

  • Interesting to see the price drop prior to release.

Will keep an eye on this and see what the drop shippers offer.

    • With Amazon, prices go up and down every day.
I wouldn't be surprised if the price went up to $850 or down to $700 tomorrow

look for it to be 499$ 6-8 weeks after release.

  • I didn't think US phones worked in Aus. Silly me- I don't know where I got that idea frrom. Oh yeah, it was when I was trying to find a super loud phone for my deaf father and I found the perfect one on eBay US, but my brother told me it wouldn't work.

    • Maybe that was a landline phone. I can't rememember. I'm confused.

      • +3

Your problem is that you are listening to your brother. You'd think after living with him for so many years you would know better….

    • It really depends on the supported frequency bands (WCDMA and LTE), and if you buy a CDMA phone it's never gonna work in Aus.

the galaxy s4 has 2 different versions, 4-core processor with 4G, 8-core processor with 3G, correct me if i'm wrong, i think this one on amazon is the 4-core version

    • Yes this one is what Australia will get when it comes out. (Because Australia has LTE, and the 8 core one doesn't support it)

    • Thanks for replying… I found all these stupid specs (including 2.4" TFT colour display) but couldn't find anything to indicate which version of the phone this is :/

  • Around the time of iphone 5s release aug / September this phone will drop sub 500$. hold off for now

  • I'd wait for somewhere more local so 28 degrees card can be used

  • What other colours will be available?

  • For several days now, you can preorder it at unlocked mobile http://www.unlocked-mobiles.com/sim-free-mobile-phones/samsu… for £441.65 plus £19.99 P&H.

That is like AUD 670.00 !

    • -1

That's before VAT @ 20% so the actual price is £529.98 + £19.99 p&p making it way more expensive at $802.34!

A number of UK retailers do now offer the Galaxy S4 (i9505) 4G quad-core version but no sign of the i9500 octa-core prices yet.

      • And as we all should know - being AUSTRALIAN means that we don't have to pay VAT.

The S4 is way over priced. For $600 you can get the Xperia Z (just released) with similar specs at JBHifi which is a much better value for money.

I don't think anyone would be buying the S4 at this price.

    • +1

they actually start thinking they are like Apple now.
