Word of warning, combo washer dryers tend to be extremely slow at drying clothes, causing your energy bills to skyrocket

And a no-name brand suggests this will be the case

  • was $599 here but now out of stock:
    http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/highlander-7kg-front-loading-w…

    and yeh… no name brand

    • yes and it has been put of stock for a long time

So it would be a bargin if you sold it for $598

        • I get what he is saying. If a competitor constantly advertises a low price with it off stock, its almost as if they are doing so to block the competition trying to sell that item. Pretty nasty business tactics from deals direct if you ask me.

If this item is not cheaper anywhere in stock, the neg is invalid IMO.

Would never commit $749 to a no-name Chinee special. Better off getting a real brand for example Askos are build to last ~20 years of regular use. Spend once, spend well. Go with Chinnee junk on a major white good like this and you will most likely be shopping again for the same product within five years.
    So…No Bingo!

    • I wouldn't call this "Chinese junk" as I can't see many reviews on it but yeh, definitely wouldn't commit $749 to unknown product. Also no-one else sells it so no-where to compare the price.

I don't know - price aside, having Christopher Lambert load the washing and Sean Connery clean the lint filter has to count for something.

        • I believe this washing machine was made for Angus, he pees his kilt all the time!

        • THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE.

        Wouldn't you Edwin?
I would. When it comes to whitegoods, quality is vital. Brands generally will only spend as much as the minimally need to, when making all of the various component choices. With front loading washers, it pretty much comes down to bearings, motors and seals but mostly bearings. There is no cheap way to out for the manufacturer and without a known brand to protect, no generic manufacturer is going to opt to cost themselves more with higher quality, dearer components.
Highlander is a badge applied by a local importer to generic mass produced Chinese made to-the-menu electronic and white goods. The have no reason to spend any more than gets them though the warrantee period withe the least cost.
Compare that to an only slightly dearer Asko or Bosch. Which can and do (or did) give people 15-20 years runs.
        No comparison.

yeh relax, I was the first to neg the deal :P

        • There can be only one.

    • Until last week I would've agreed with you on your thoughts on ASKOs. But my 10 year old ASKO stopped working a month or so ago. The repair man found that the fuse on the back had blown. Along with both circuit boards in the machine. Cost to repair: Labour $99. Fuse: $1 Circuit boards: $1100.

I emailed ASKO Australia to see if the repair man was telling me the truth about the cost of the circuit boards and after 2 weeks I've had no reply from them.

So sadly, my first ASKO has been my last.

      • Hmm sounds like a bit of bad luck. But also sounds like you got a 10 year run from your appliance which is OK-ish by modern standards. Sadly the older Askos and Bosches gave much better runs. They too are falling fowl to planned obsolescence and cheap parts. When he says the boards have "blown" what does that mean exactly? I would have a look into that if possible. From an electronics point of view there is unlikely to be more than $20 of parts on the board. Perhaps some specialized Asko logic programming or IC. You may be able tp source them elsewhere. I am sure installation would be very simple. Just copy all the connections as they are.
Tale a close up photo before you start, if you do indeed have a go.
